I'm not going to try to tell you what you like or anything but you can do it without the raised middle. 38g and higher seem to contour when it hits the ribbon. I know what you're talking about and I think it looks like crap too. You can roll something over the stick too.

When fusing do you slow or relatively fast? Also do you keep the fusing wire on the spool or do you cut a long length so you can keep less tension on the core? Thanks!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Slow. I had to get a drill just for SSFCs. My AC drill has no gear selection and very little trigger sensitivity.
I'm working off the spool but I'm not holding it very tight. Just tight enough to prevent an overlap.

Hey Chef... have you had any luck adjusting the ring on your spin lt and getting it true? I figured I should ask before I take some pliers to her.

So I tried the Mind_Forge technique and it works quite well - even with the drill wide open. I've only been able to free hand spaced Claptons before, because I just couldn't get any other way to work for some reason. At any rate, I made a set of staggered framed staples. They came out not so great, but I kept on rushing it to see how fast I could go with the drill. I guess I'm gonna need some more practice. I also have to say, I'm not a huge fan of the vape quality of these heavy metal, dense builds. It actually seems like I'm trading the flavor quality for clouds. Although I do like the cloud aspect of vaping, I guess I'm really more of a flavor chaser.

6x0.4K cores, 26K frames, 36N stagger, 38N bind

Anyways, here are the pics:

Try those sexy beasts in a G24 Seminole/Goon and only use 3/4 wide open or 2 Holes for the Goon and use it on a triple parallel...its one of my favorite vapes to date....on the G2 there is some ramp up time since you cant fire them at peak wattage which is why Im waiting for the 3S/4S hohm boxes...The triple parallel Boxes how ever will fire it without any ramp up and to be honest its one of the best experiences for flavor/vapor IMO...though for some it may be just a bit too warm

I can't find that video you posted that showed me the clip method. It does take some practice though.

Can you show me how to use a spool tamer? They won't be here till Monday probably.
Third!

I have two of these, reason being is that the first one which i got from FT had an issue where one of the screws jammed inside the sliding bottom plate and wouldn't budge, even after drilling a hole through the screw it just melted into the threads, i got discounted penny's by them for the issue and to cut my losses i bought a second from ebay so i could use one for parts.
It's a great mech and hits hard at first But it needs a lot of maintenance to keep the button and the connecting plate clean from all the arcing that goes on, the button gets warm and can be a little hit and miss as in you might find yourself hitting the button at different angles just to get the mod to fire.
It's a very similar button set up as what you get with the noisy cricket

If you want help with spool tamers I have a little picture tutorial I can send you that I made for someone else, are you using a spool tamer to stagger or to clapton.

Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Yes please! Would email or Instagram work better?
I'm fixing to order some and I want to experiment with both stagger and clapton. I want to learn all the different methods so I can decide which works best for me

Gotta post my first (barely) serviceable alien coil. So proud of myself. Finally out of the kiddie pool, but still in the shallow end.

53475dad6ef240cedc74816bb7816863.jpg

Admittedly, this is the only useable segment of a highly unuseable length of wire. But, it was after something clicked with the manufacture of aliens. Let the drill do the work and try not to micro-manage the wrapper. Let the wrapper do it's thing. This was made with the last half of wire after an ah-ha moment.

Tried briefly a couple times, without putting in much effort, so needless to say, it did not work out. Can't wait to have a bit of time to practice and get good at it. But now I feel confident that aliens can be made! It IS possible!

3x24k/32k

Cannot wait til I get good enough to build with more appropriate wire gauges for a dual coil build. But, I finally feel like I am on the verge.

Thanks to you intricate builders for making me jealous enough to want to step up my game from just rocking fused claptons.

Try a 26g decore over 2x 24g using 34g or 36g. 32g is very stiff.
Not the best vaping alien but it won't triangle and you can focus on the technique.

Thanks for the tip. Just wanted to use the 32 as a practice wire since i really never use it for anything else. Taking my baby steps. 20 more tries an I think I will have it!

Made a 3x26/36 this morning that looks pretty good. Havent vaped on it yet. But should be better anyway. Just wanted to use the 32 until I had a basic ability to alien.

Personally I like doing this for 36g and higher:

Edit: Stretch your decore but leave some spring in it so the rotation of the drill is stretching it properly. Start your very first wrap as an alien so it squeezes the cores flat. Stay 10° in front of the wrap and give it some speed. The faster you go the farther you can lead so it's ideal to go pretty fast.

Take 2 pieces of 28g about 20" long and fold them over the swivel so you have 4 pieces of 28g side by side. Hold them flat and glue them with hot glue right next to the swivel. Run your fingers down the length till you get about an inch from the end and glue it. Bind it and put it in the chuck. If you like you can also wrap ribbon around it a few times till it bunches up and mash it flat.
I use this length to get 2 4" pieces.
For 3x 26g and 4x 28g I like to use 24g for the decore. It looks better and you barely need to stretch it.

Not quite pristine but closer. Phase 3 in troubleshooting. 3x26/36.

Seems to me keeping good pressure between the drill and swivels is key and works best for me to kinda let the drill rip fairly fast and steady.

Any advice on decore/alien wrap tension based on the picture?

6 or 7 more months of practice and I think I will get it.

Used the hotglue as recommended by @whiteowl84. Not sure if it helped or a placebo effect, but seemed to help keep the cores more under control. Kept more tension on the drill too. Not sure which helped more.

It looks to me like your decore was stretched just a little too much - it doesn't have much of the distinctive "S" wavy pattern to it. Regardless, it has enough that it should provide more than adequate capillary action. Looks aside, I bet it gives a fantastic vape! :D

Kept just a bit more tension on the alien wrap itself while winding. IDK if a coil guru like yourself can tell from just the pics or not whether:

A) the decore was stretched too far

Or

B) i put too much tension on the alien wrap

If you think over-stretched, i will back off the stretch on the next run.

Yup

Generally, when there's too much tension when wrapping, the excess coiling has to go somewhere - to the balance of the decore. When this happens, it builds up and creates extra tension in the balance and will begin to tangle in on itself as you feed it.

Something I made before leaving for the weekend...a All Ribbon SFC.
3 Cores comprised of 3PLY .4R/40N80 Fused with 40N80

Its not as "Squared" as I wanted it so the next version Im making with be comprised of 42g Stagger and 44g Fusing BUT this time Im making 2 of the 3 Core All Ribbon SFCs with .3 Ribbon and space fusing them, then fusing them together....it will be a challenge but if it goes how I want it it will be a great vape as well as one badass looking coil..Im shoving it into the Norris 30mm so it wont look crazy big in that..

So looking at the RDA install pic imagine it looking more square edged and every 2 wraps being a single wrap :D

@raymo2u
It looks great dude. Many builds I've seen with a center stagger have the wrap bending to hit it. Yours goes as straight across as it can. Looks like a pita...not something I'll do soon. Lol.

@BKTOAD
If you practice keeping really close to the same speed as your drill you'll be fine. There are a few gaps is all.
You can adjust your stretch and decore size to make steeper swoops like Chef is saying but if you can develop a good way to keep the cores straight, run at the same speed as the drill and keep the tension right you'll be fine. I still have problems when I try new gauges on new things. It's all about muscle memory.

Well I didnt get the Spaced Fusing to work like I wanted to so I just 6 a 6 Core Ribbon SFC...so far its the biggest Ribbon SFC there is.

(6) 4PLY .3R Stacks Staggered in 42TMN80 and Fused with 44TMN80 (5 wraps/3.5mm ID @ .14 Ohms Single Coil)

That be the Norris N30 (30mm)
Its based on the Goon but 30mm and you can remove the posts to have a Postless deck...If they used a Topcap similar to the Goon I would give it a 100% thumbs up but its crazy airy with the options they give for airflow...but its a deck where literally anything will fit in it no matter what.

just think that coil wouldnt fit in the Goon posts unless half of it was hanging off the post with a screw removed....and I would have only gotten 3 wraps in...
