Hi there folks. I'm looking step up my vaping game and move over from the good old Cuboid. I've been looking very interested at the DNA chip. However, after thinking a bit more at the problem (and answering myself some questions), I realized that the DNA might be overkill for me. (Not sure if it's worth the price if you don't use TC)

So recently I started gaining interest in the YiHi line of chips. I first found very interesting the iPV5 as it looks very solid and trustworthy to me. However, I just read a bit more about the iPV8 and was curious if there's someone around here that can tell me about it. Also, if you know other mods similar to that (I would like to stick to the YiHi line, heard that they are the kings of power mode), you recommend me and I'll try to find it in my country.

What is important to me: dual battery, 150w+, efficient and well built. Thanks for the help! :)

IPV 5 is great. the 6, and 8 not so much.
King of mods for a good price is the hohmwrecker G2 171 watts dual 18650 but now it seems hard to find. all sold out. they were selling between 45-70 bucks for a long time. If you can manage to find one, it's amazing

outside of that I'd take a smok mod over the IPV. the alien, hpriv, and xcube ultra are all great mods. If you aren't using TC most mods will do just fine.

Well, I actually like iPV 5 more than the 8. I like the profile feature, because I have multiple atomizers. Why would you choose Smok over iPV?

Just prefer them. Their last few mods have been awesome and p4u hasn't made a good mod since the 5. Don't like how the said the 6 and 8 do things that they don't do. I try and use companies that make mods that do what they are supposed to

I have a 6 and an 8. I prefer the form factor of the 6 but the 8 does all the things the 6 should have. The 5 is a solid mod and so is it's near twin the qclass. If you're a power vapor the 8 will work well for you and the grip has held up surprisingly well.

I see. Well, if I choose 5 over 8, will I miss anything important? Also, do you have any photos with a 25mm atomizer?

The only difference would be the size the 5 is quite large. Sorry I don't have any 25 mm atties the 5 will definitely have overhang the 8 has a beveled edge so I can't say how it would look.

I actually found a photo with a Griffin 25 that looks quite perfect. I have an Aromamizer Supreme, so I don't think it will be a problem. The size of the mod doesn't bother me, because I'm a big guy :D.

@BoostAddict That sounds interesting too. Any more info on that?

Just remember the 6 and 8 are non firmware upgradable

@SirRichardRear

Yes, I know. That was a very big turnoff for me. Also the lack of profiles. On Cuboid I use a custom firmware that sets me automatically the wattage when I switch atomizers, based on resistances. Very useful feature because I switch alot between MTL and LI and it happened to me many times to burn my cotton after switching back to MTL from LI :D. One more thing I don't like about the 8/6 is the type of battery door. I know that with the 8 they fixed it, but I like the style of 5's more.

I think you were on the right track with the DNA, especially if you like profiles. IMO, the DNA is worth it even if you are not using TC and the escribe software is easy to use after spending a little time with it.

They are great but the question for OP is it worth the extra money. They cost twice as much but if u get one I'd go with the finder 167

For the 50 dollar range I still vote for an alien hpriv or even a Battlestar.

I was actually looking towards Therion 166, however I was turned off when the price on FastTech raised from 118 to 149. 118 was pretty much, however 150 I wouldn't pay. I know that the DNA's are very powerful and pretty much how eScribe works because I watched some tutorials when I started looking after Therion.

I really love behaviour of that chip and it's TC curve, however with that amount of money, right now I could buy the iPV5 and a mech beside it. Also, I must wait for it from FT and then hope I won't have to pay for customs, which would add another 20% to the price. This is what made me change my mind.

Just pick free shipping or e packet don't do DHL or UPS. I'm partial to the finder. They are practically the same but the finder looks nicer and has a really nice finish to it.they should be around 100 bucks. Check 3f vape as well or use vapecrawler.com also fastech is 15% off now with code SANTACLAUS ipv5 is a solid choice though if that's what u want and should be cheap.

Ok, after discussing also with some friends and checking the vape shops online and offline in my country, I narrowed the selection down to these two: Smok Alien and iPV5. Personally, I like the form factor of the iPV much more, but I was astonished of the performance of the Alien. Anyone can describe that one? Power, TC, battery-life? Thanks :)

they are both good devices and pretty similar. can't go wrong with either. The alien is newer and will still get updates. but some people have had issues with paint chipping. Mine personally look brand new still. The IPV5 is proven and has been out a while and is a solid mod. it's really up to you. go by looks maybe?

Fasttech alternative sites. Gearbest, heaven's gift, aliexpress, etc. might be good places to find the best price on whichever mod you pick. Lots of sales right now. I've seen Aliens below 50usd right now.

You wanted profiles, the Alien board has several profiles that you can choose from. Problems may occur with it. Paint chipping is the most common (solutions are skins or case). Some have reported problems frying the board while charging the batteries (this is a no-no anyway, always use an external charger).
The knock with P4U is they advertise a lot of features, but due to build quality, they don't live up to the hype.

Which country are you in? May be a factor to consider if you need warranty service.

I`m in Romania, Europe. Shipping from a China-based website will most probably take about a month and I might have to pay for customs. That`s why I gave up on the DNA too. However, right here in my country, I can buy both Alien and iPV 5 at the same price (About 60$, which is ok since I get it next day). I`m actually starting to fall towards the iPV. :)

Then best to buy from a local store. No issues with customs. No issues with returning anything to China should you have problems.

One quick question...Anyone here has iPV5 with a 25mm atty? How well do they go together?

If you use the coupon code MAP at FT I believe the price of the Therion 166 comes back down to what it was (~$118.95-$121.95 depending on color).

Merry Christmas,

You can count me as an IPV8 believer. In testing, it actually gets close to the full 230 watts. Pretty impressive for a dual 18650 mod. Not that I need that much power very often! The IPV8 has the new YiHi SX 330 F8 chip and a lot of capabilities. The only downside is that it is not firmware upgradeable. But overall a very good value for the money. Mine has proven very durable so far and that was tested the other day when my wife was carrying it around in her purse during a long day of Christmas shopping. She carries a lot of crap in there and throws that thing around like a football.

The only thing I would say is be warry of prices that seem to good to be true. You do not want to get ripped off by a clone. I know some think clones are OK but I disagree 100%. Make sure you get an authentic IPV8.

here is the chart. watts is accurate to 120 after that it hits lower. doesn't reach 230 watts. only gets close with a certain resistance. usually way off on higher watts

TLDR version
pros solid build
cons TC is inaccurate especially with SS
leather is peeling already
no balanced charging
no firmware upgrades
hits much lower on wattage after 120 watts

Yes, I watched that review. iPV5 looks like a much more solid choice than 8. Unfortunately, I can't find specific pictures with 25mm attys and iPV5. Software-wise, I'd go with the Alien. However, the build quality of the iPV5 is astonishing.

At around the 8 minute mark he puts on a few different attys. I don't have this mod or I'd snap a picture with a 25mm atty for you to check out. I hope this helps until someone posts one for you.

Cheers,
Steve

honestly for 35 bucks if you don't care for temp mode the smoant battlestar has a great build quality and I've used it at 190 watts and it hits like a champ. I haven't tested TC mode on it yet though. the Alien hits hard as well but i agree it feels less sturdy then some other mods. it's a lot of plastic.

I have a 4s, and it was a little flaky on the resistance reading. Despite that I got a ipv6x. The price point is good. Again a bit flaky on the resistance reading. Loosen/re-tighten the topper and its all good again. But the on the 6x I have knocked the batteries out numerous times! Then, gotta turn it back on. Other that thoes little annoyances, the 6x is great, small and powerful!

Well, after re-reading all the posts here and talking with a lot of people in different places (including reddit) I have come to the decision that it might be better if I`m buying the Alien. Even if the build quality is not as good as iPV5`s, it`s a newer mod with a lot more software support and according to DJLsb, a very good chip. However, I`m not sure if the 25mm atty`s fit nice on this one. Anybody here has a picture or something? Also, is there anything else I should know, beside the paint and the possibility that the firing bar will wobble? (which is fixable)

Here's a photo with a 25 mm Super tank on top.
Alien Blue tank.jpg

That corner might look a little funny in the photo (just noticed it) but it is not overhanging at all.
