So I'm thinking of buying a 3d printer. I can make all sorts of parts on it (drip tips, top caps and mod stands to name a few.) I'm not sure about pricing yet but I'm thinking 5-8 dollars for drip tips + shipping and maybe 12-15 for Top caps. Not sure about mod stands. I'm just wondering if y'all would be interested. It's a big investment and I'd like to cover some of the cost if I can make things. Just let me know what you think. In the future I can make box mod cases and battery cases. Thanks.

I applaud the efforts of such creative folks like you. Good luck.

If I bought it I could also do personalized things. Mod stands with initials, top caps initials and stuff. Just tell me what you think. I don't want to go copying @Dhim 's stuff.

We'd love a 3d printer, too, but I think we're good with the toys we have for now.

Just remember that it takes time to print items, and large items (8"x8") can take a very long time, even though they can be REALLY cool.

Is Dhim not visiting here anymore? I've tried sending him a PM a couple of times in the last month or so, and he hasn't responded. We were working toward a partnership of sorts (and I really want to buy a VU mod stand from him!).

Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread. I think it's a great idea if you can do it! :)

How much modeling experience do you have?

I have used auto cad before to design fairly complicated sketches. I go to a tech school for mechanical engineering so I can use this to print parts for projects as well. I'm not trying to make a business out of it, I would just like to make back some of the cost so it doesn't cost a bunch. If I can do that by providing useful vape accessories for cheap I'll gladly do it. Who doesn't want big bore drip tips for five bucks shipped?

Okay. I'm thinking I may be able to print some drip tips in the coming weeks. I'd like to have 5 people review them. All you do is pay shipping. Sound fair? Leave a comment and tell me if you would like to be one of these five. Remember, they will be prototypes and I would like some feedback on how they perform. Thanks.

Hey surgikill. I'd like to be one of your 5 if you have a spot left. I have loads of driptips and find myself adding 1 to just about every order I make. I have stainless, copper, acrylic, aluminum, brass, glass, delrin and rubber ones. Not real familiar with the whole 3D concept but from reading up a bit, I am intrigued so I will definetly be watching this thread either way for the tips, top caps and stands.

Going to print another proto drip tip today. Just printed a proto top cap. Works great.

If you or somebody could make a top cap to fit a 28mm Stillaire, so I can get rid of that fiendish tiny holed adjustable air one on that atty I'd buy ten.

It should be about three weeks until I am up and running with a printer. Until then I can take requests but I won't be able to print anything until I get my printer. Happy vaping.

Talked to the company today. I've been getting super high quality prints with the prototype they have. The new kit should be even more accurate. It's looking very promising. I have designed mod stands, mixing stations, top caps and drip tips so far. Next up is battery cases and coil building stations. If anybody has a request pm me and we can work something out. My pricing is reasonable.

Are you getting a single or dual extruder?

Can you do sharp undercuts?

I only ask because it's going to be very difficult to get friction-fit drip tips that will stay in all toppers. I have several different measurements on my toppers. If you could add a slot for an O-ring, I think that would open many more possibilities for you. Even if it's not a square slot; it could be rounded or diamond-shaped.

I seem to have lost all contact with the person that was going to do my VU Logo mod stand, but if you're interested, I could send you the file and you might be able to print that. :)

I have a single extruder and I can print supports so under cuts aren't a problem. I also print the tips with a slight taper so they should fit perfect.

Here's a sample from the printer I will be buying. That's without any post processing.

So which 3D printer are you buying? Just got into it myself and I'm surprised at how good prints turn out.

It is an fdm printer sourced by a company called gbotz in Kissimmee Florida.

Very nice printer Surgikill, welcome to the RepRap community. Does that printer come with auto bed leveling from he manufacturer? I spent a week adding that to mine and I really wish it had been a part of the original kit, but it's working now and is a great addition.

Hopefully @Surgikill doesn't up and disappear like @Dhim did. (After being sent all sorts of vape goodies for the third PIF box)

All extruded aluminum frame, stainless lead screws, e3d v6 hot end. Itty bitty Belted extruder, auto bed leveling, heated bed, oh, and a cnc spindle.

Really nice bit of kit. I took a look at their FB page and that's a pretty big operation they have. I look forward to hearing about your experiences with it.

It should be a very solid printer. What printer do you have?

I'm running the MakerFarm i3v 10" (250x250x250mm). Same RepRap style as yours, but your Gbotz has a great frame and the extruder looks the buisness. I may have to look into that extruder as an upgrade since it looks bulletproof. My hotend is the Hexagon .40. Nice resolution, down to 50 micron, but I really like the look of that belted E3D setup. Looks great! I'd love to see some pics when you get it. Your going to have a great time with it.

We have a prusa in the shop and we can't get it to run on the Rambo boards we have. The e3d v6 is the shit and the belted extruder has been producing ridiculously good prints. The best part is that it's half the weight and half the size of the regular setup. The new gbotz that I'm getting is going to be a box frame, sort of like the makerbot but bigger. All the ones on their Facebook are the old versions. This one's brand new and will have a quick disconnect wire harness to swap out tool heads easy.

You might want to pick up a Ramps 1.4 and give it a try. Very inexpensive and seems to be the current standard. Well as far as standards go in the open source world. I'll look forward to the pics to see the new version then. It seems Gbotz has very little web presence and it's a bit hard to find info on.

You can't find much on gbotz. They pretty much only do business with my school. I'll definitely keep this thread updated when it comes time to build my kit (oh boy won't that be fun)

There's a community on ECF doing builds with Shapeways and Sculpteo sites. I'm sure they'd love to try someone else out if you really want more business.

Gosh.... this is all so far over my head. But, I know how to use regular & miniature manual woodcarving tools. Will that give me enough creative points that I can I still lurk here??

Sure. I'll post up some pictures of stuff I've printed. Right now I'm mostly printing fan mounts and electronics enclosures for my main board.
