What RTA, RDTA ?

Hi guys,

actually vaping on Smok Alien with TFV8 Baby - original coils didn't last even one week. I bought RBA section - haven't received yet - but heard a lot of problems with it (leaking, 510 centre pin shortage and so on).

So I am looking for a new RTA or RDTA and would be really grateful for a help:

Now I like:

TFV8 Cloudbeast
Limitless Classic
Avocado 24 - 2nd Edition
OBS Crius Plus
Vaporesso Gemini
Griffin 25

I count with building my own decks - I don't want to buy original coils. But I have a little fear from RDTA such as Avocado and Limitless - specially I love the Limitless Classic with two RBA decks and so on but I am used to lay the mod on its side or carry it in my pocket with no fear of leaking! Is it possible to build the deck this way on RDTAs ?

For building I have UD 316L SS 26ga/Kanthal 32 ga clapton wire. I want to vape somewhere at 60-100 W. Love smoother air flow.

What do you think ? Which of RTA (RDTA) would fit me the best ?

Thanks a lot for patience during reading :)

I don't know if it's possible to build rdta's so they don't leak when laying down, from what I gather most of them will. Some more than others. I think the avocado 22 or 24 originals would be less likely to leak, they had a wick hole for the tails of the wick. The newer 24's with the bottom airflow have a different deck with two large open slots for the wick tails so probably more chance of leaking. There's a juiceflow adjuster on the 24 bottom airflow but it seems kind of funky and reviews haven't been the most positive for that feature.

For a more leakproof rta the obs engine seems pretty popular.

Okay guys thanks a lot. I must admit that I was thinking about the above listed RTAs for a week I think. But when you wrote OBS Engine I looked on a few reviews and damn this looks so good !!! No leaking at all, great flavor, easy building and over 5 ml of capacity - not so tall as Griffin or Crius, big deck too - I hope the reviewers don't lie :)

Quite surprised that I didn't hit on Engine earlier. I looked for a more commercial RTAs like Crius, Griffin or RDTAs like Avocado but never thought about Engine.

Very grateful guys !

Depending on your needs, the engine comes in a standard and mini. If the larger capacity suits you, great, if not and you need a shorter version they have one of those too.

I prefer the bigger one more. I was used to capacity of 5-6 ml from my old Zephyrus (which was BTW pain in the ass to wick) and now with TFV8 baby I sometimes forget to fill the tank and vape with empty tank :) :)

suprised the Aromamizer Supreme is not in your list, damn good vape, and now with the limited edition in a very complete package, with single coil adapter, 4ml and 7ml tank size and both velocity and postless deck.....the thing also has never leaked or spit on me...

This is one time the reviewers are not off base. IMO the flavor is excellent. I've seen a few posts around of it's just good, and that's a valid finding as let's face it, flavor is pretty subjective. Bottom line on the tank is compact, good volume, no leak unless you want one, excellent flavor, and good air and cloud (I'm not a cloud person, but it can do it). And it's very easy to build and wick. Hard to beat that total package, especially as it's affordable as well.

This was my first option last year. But I recommended Supreme to my friend regards to reviews (not personal experienxe). We tried manny builds on it but laying on its side it leaked almost constantly. Pain in the ass for my friend.

I heard only good reviews on Supreme, but after this experience I didn't want anymore. Maybe just a bad piece but you know it.

I totally agree. The price surprised me as well. I searched for RTAs with price a little bit higher only so Engine was not the point of my view. But for its price it seems quite excellent! Pretty sure I will be satisfied!

How Engine stands to tfv8 baby regarding clouds and flavor?

Thanks

I don't have any of the Smok tanks as I'm not big on factory coils anymore. Purely second hand info, I bet the tfv8 and the other assorted baby, big baby tanks will produce more cloud. That's what they're built for. I'd be hard pressed that they would beat an Engine on flavor. Also with an Engine you can build in SS (or whatever) for TC, whereas Smok doesn't offer TC compatible coils across all their tanks. I know the Baby Beast and Big Baby Beast only have Kanthal coils. Of course if you got the RBA you could build whatever you wanted.

for getting the best flavor and true RTAs i'd suggest the griffin 25 plus, augvape boreas, aromamizer supreme
from your list
TFV8 - actually solid as an RTA with the RBA deck and great with the premade coils
Limitless clasic RDTA - was good not great
Avacado 24 - better then the limitless. solid RDTA for sure but can get hot on the top cap easily
Crius Plus - just ok
Gemini - no experiance personally but haven't seen people raving about it
Griffin 25 - get the plus, it's better. no wick hole ring and bigger JFC holes

As far as the no leaks id' suggest any of the 3 I recommended. That all have JFC you can turn off when in your pocket so it doesn't leak. But i wouldn't personally carry any of them on the side all the time with the JFC and AFC open. Especially an RDTA style even the non leaking ones will leak eventually if left on it's side too long

as far as the engine goes IMO it's overrated. it won't leak but the top airflow kills the flavor in it

Spot on advice from Anthony once again. Only thing I'd add is that I find the LImitless Classic better than just good. And the Aromamizer Supreme, although quite good, IMO is more of a cloud chucker than a flavor machine due mainly to how airy and roomy it is. Obviously this all subjective and at the end of the day all that matters is how it vapes for you.

Guys thanks for your opinions.. Really appreciate it.

Bought engine few hours ago.. Installed pre-built coils from the box... Pushed cotton pretty much to the holes... But here's the problem:

Flavor and cloudiness is above my expects! Really great, but after each refill I get big spitbacks for the first five pulls... I think I have really enough of cotton in the coils and in the holes. I tried cover drip tip with my hand while refilling but had no luck. This is pretty annoying....please do you have any advice?

I vape at 0,2 ohm - 60 watts.

sounds like flooding. need either more cotton or more wattage

I fear about batteries.. Have Sony Vtc5 and with for example 80 watts, the amps are around 21? Isn't it dangerous?

this video explains a lot of it. I made it to help new vapors understand battery safety ;) i'd recommend giving it a watch

I don't understand why anyone needs to lay their tank on its side? I never have with any of my tanks even gong back to the KFL+.

Because I can wear it in any pocket without any problem, I can put it on my chest while laying in the bed, because I can put it into pocket in car... For me it's pretty important feature :).. I understand why it is not so important for many people, but for me it is.

I vape at 0,2 ohm - 60 watts.

Couple of things you can try. When wicking, I have the tails of the cotton sitting just in the holes, not through. I know some folks will run cotton all the way to the bottom of the deck, but I find it best if the is resting in, but not through those holes. Second, which might simply be my imagination as to whether it really helps, is to refill with the tank tilted at about 45 degrees. Then tilt back to vertical and close, and if there is a little juice outside a quick wipe down with a Kleenex is all you need. That's the nature of a side top fill.

I find the first 2 or 3 draws are "moister" after filling, but not spitting and getting juice in my mouth, then it calms down to a nice warm vape. There should be no need to cover the DT or close the afc for filling this tank. It's probably just a matter of playing with the wicking a few times to get it settled down. Glad you're otherwise enjoying it.

Thanks for a quick reply.. Can't believe you guys are so helpful ....

The first build I had cotton just resting on holes but the spitback was massive! Even tenth draw was awful and I hurt my tongue with hot drops of liquid.

The second one I put more cotton through the coils and pushed it just to the end of holes in the bottom and it was better but it's just not right yet. Probably I will need to try some more. But drinking almost 0,5 ml of juice during flooding is just really messy and awful

Anyway do you think that clapton wire with 26 ss and 32 ka will be better than the original coils? I would like to use it with TCR around 0,3-0,4 ohms.. 3 mm diameter.

Thanks!

Right now I'm running dual Clapton SS 26/32 coming in at 0.25 ohm 3 mm ID, and using it in TC, 100W 1 second preheat, 40W 440F with a nice warm, even vape. Honestly I never used the coils that came with the tank, so no idea how they would compare.

You should not be getting that kind of flooding. Cotton filling the coil (not overly tight) cut about the edge of the outer bottom deck for length, fluff and tuck. I'm sorry I don't have a photo of my wicking to show you. @Roadtrip635 does have a photo which is pretty much the same way I wick in another thread here http://vapingunderground.com/threads/obs-engine-sub-and-mini-sub-tanks.301666/#post-1549894

It seems that I have it almost the same. Maybe somewhere is a little mistake. I will try it tomorrow maybe after work. But really thanks for help!!!

Besides that... I really enjoy Engine from the first moment. The clouds are really dense and that's great. Sometimes clouds are too hot but I think it's the original clapton. I really look forward to use it in tcr mode while I heard that Engine is pretty good at it as well as my Alien mod.

I love my TFV8 baby and big baby with the RBA decks. I actually bought one of the SMOK spirals tanks for flavor chasing and have been enjoying it as well.

You can't do the huge builds on any of them tanks but you don't have to stick with factory coils.
