Hello all,
Fairly new to vaping, started a little over a month ago when I gave up smoking. Purchased a Vamo V5 and I clear 30s, 2 18650 batteries and 2 18350 batteries and a nitecore I2.
Was pretty happy to start out, but I'm liking the juices less and less. I've found 2 that I love, Nerdz by R&D and sour apple from the local shop, but I'm not interested in paying $12 for 15 ml. I've recently ordered a bunch of samples, so we'll see how that goes.

The issue I'm really having is it seems like everything burns in the Iclear. I run it at about 3.8v and it seems to burn. Not every time, but enough that its an issue. Less voltage doesn't seem to work as well though.
I'd like to get into building coils, and I'm really interested in the Kayfun lite plus or similar, but I'm concerned about buying more equipment or adding additional problems until I figure out what I'm doing wrong here? Also interested in a nemesis mod, but the same thing applies. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but need to figure this out first...

Hope I've provided enough info here...

Hey Hooch, glad you found us!

Have you tried a different head on your Iclear? And what is the resistance rating of the one you have in it now?

And yes, $12 for a 15ml bottle of liquid is high. Where did you order your samples from?

And if you are mechanically inclined you should have no problem with a Kayfun Lite. If I can build them so can a mentally challenged chimp so they should be a breeze for you!

The one I have in at the moment is at 2.3. Its my third coil also. I tried to dry burn one and it immediately went to 3 ohms. The second coil opened in about 3 mins, I just chalked it up to DOA. I've had this one for 2 weeks now.

first off(now this is just an opinion, nothing in stone)if you have already burnt your coil in your I clear ,I would start with a new coil, and on the vamo V5 set it to wattage, not volts,,,,then I would start at 5 or 6 watts and inch it up until you get your place that suits you, without burning,,with the vamo when it is set on watts,it automatically sets the voltage for you according to the ohms of your coil, that way you can use any ohm coil you want ,,,,,that's a trick I learned well into vaping, wish I would have known sooner as I burnt a lot of coils learning, and another thing,,,,are you sure its burnt, does it taste burnt etc,,,,if its just color,,,some juices do turn dark in a tank
just a few of my thoughts,,let me know how things work out,,,,,,Vape On Brother

Oh, I ordered samples from slims. So far I haven't been very impressed and will be looking elsewhere. Eventually I'd like to make my own. Just feel like I need to find a happy medium with everything before I head off in too many directions.

Thanks! I did try watts for a few days, I switched back for whatever reason and didn't try it again. I will certainly give it another try.
Its a burnt taste. It's only burnt juice once and that was absolutely my fault. I was pushing buttons...

What DB said about setting the Vamo to VW mode. IMHO, set it there and leave it there FOREVER for the best results.

And try this place for your E-Liquids. I have had great luck with them. What kind of flavors do you like?

Just switched back to watts. I don't see a place, but it may be Tapatalk hiding a link. I'm trying candies and like. I tried a couple of the tobacco flavors and didn't care for any. Also seemed counter productive. I have space jams astro and I'm not a fan. I'm trying a little of everything but candy seems to be the best for now.

Thank you sir!

If you like candies. Try the BEJ Romance (chocolate and strawberry) Chocolate covered Cherries. The EGGNOG is a new favorite of mine as well as the vanilla butternut.

And if you are brave, Orange Vines (Orange and Liquorice) or Red Hots (those hot little cinnamon candies).

Ok...made it both local shops we have around here today. Both have Kayfun clones. The one shop that was much more helpful is recommending the Nautilus over a Kayfun. It's their number one seller and they sell the coils for $4.00.

I'm not sure which to do, but I'm getting rid of the IClear one way or the other. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, I can make coils once I figure it out and can probably keep a spare ready to go...that said, what's everyone else's opinion or thoughts? Is the convenience of pushing a coil in over building one really that much better??

Been using an Anyvape Davide BCC, basically a PT2 clone, (Kanger PT2 isn't too bad either) .
Added a Kanger Airflow Controller for 5 bucks, and haven't had any problems.
Tried many other types, but this has been the most reliable for me.
Filling with juice is simple.
And flavor is way better than top coils or Genny's, and it's a rebuildable single coil.

Most of the stock (purchased) coils suck.
They wrap the wire too tight around the wick and it chokes the flow off.
And the silica wicks aren't fluffy enough at the ends to keep them from constantly flooding.
Playing with the flavor wicks is a joke.
So I had either dry hits or flooding (gurgling).

Frustrating when you open a new 5 pack of purchased coils and they are all duds.
Now you don't have anything to vape, now what?
Go buy some more, or order some online and wait, or go back to analogs cause it's easier.
Hence, the reason rebuilding is so much better.
Bought a little mini orange butane torch from Harbor Freight for 10 bucks.
It's used for heating up the wire to make it less springy.
And to squeeze the coils tight with tweezers after wrapping.
Kind-of a "must have" item for making micro-coils.

Rebuilding coils does have a bit of a learning curve but mostly just takes some practice.
Wire is quite cheap.
I can run any PG/VG ratio I want without changing anything.

Once I install a new coil it will last about a month.
Just remove the cotton, dry burn, clean with tiny dental brush.
Then reheat the coil and squeeze it back tight with tweezers while still hot.
Replace the cotton wick and it's good for a few days to a week depending on the juice being used.
Many u-tube videos show how.
I'm using Kanthal A1 30 awg, 8 wraps on 16ga blunt tip needle, about 1.8 ohms.
And Wallgreens Organic Cotton Balls, and I don't even bother with boiling them.

Sorry for the long winded post.

I appreciate your reply, very informative! I'm going to list the unopened Iclear 30s and box of coils for sale. Early this morning I found a deal on an Orchid V4 and a Kayfun I ordered. Both are clones but for the $25 I didn't think it was a bad deal. I've been reading most of the day and will be picking up some drill bits and making some coil jigs this week. Guess I'll start with 30awg and go from there. Can't possibly be any worse than what I have now!

I really appreciate everyone's help and input!!!

Go for the Kayfun if you want to invest the time to learn to build coils which will cost you pennies against dollars.

Got one on the way! I ordered online. I have to stay out of the local shops here, they're incredibly expensive. I understand the cost of running a B&M store, but their prices are ridiculous...

Yep, depending on the B&M store the prices can be HORRENDOUS!

But the the good ones will give you great service and also take care of you if a device fails

And I believe it's imperative to support small local business but when they're selling clone mods at close to $100 that are online for $20. Sorry, I'm not paying your rent for the week. Was the same shop selling their own line of ejuice for $15 for 15ml. They buy it labeled for them...it's not something they're making in house.

Maybe I just expect too much...

There has to be a common ground IMHO.

One local B&M (well as local as it gets for me anyway) makes their own E-Liquids in house. Last I checked, a 30ml bottle cost less than $2.00 to makwhen it comes to raw materials. Labor is certainly worth something. And making it GREAT is worth still more..

But they are selling their product at close to $20 per 30ml bottle. (and if the local news is correct, you can get laid for $50 of you are not real particular)

I have tasted it and it just is not as good as the stuff I can get for less than $8 to $13 on line!

Great example, I am really digging on the latest version of the Dovpo E-MECH which is a dual 18650 mod that has a 30 watt max.

I have seen them go as low as $67 shipped on Ebay. One local store is selling them for $140. The dude or dudette on Ebay is making a profit I would think.

There just has to be a middle ground!

Rant over, Taking meds now and going to sleep with my retarded cat.

Not bad for an hour. Next time I'll put the holes in line. Just wanted to see if it'd work. Not bad for scrap lumber lol.
