Howdy, folks, HellbillyRJ here and I’ll be giving my review of the Mutation X V5 RDA. It's been out for awhile but I didn't see a review on it here so figured I would do it. Before I get into that though, I’d like to just take a few seconds and say thank you for taking the time to read and consider my review. Also, I'd like to give a special thanks to @Deucesjack for being so helpful and allowing me to borrow his layout for this review.

Disclosure:

This product was NOT sent to me for the purpose of this review.

Now, with all the formalities out of the way let’s go on ahead and get down to business.

Mutation X V5 RDA:

I have been using this RDA for a few weeks with a few different builds and wires and feel I have given it sufficient time for a just and accurate review.
So, let's go over the specifications just a little bit for those not familiar with this RDA.
It is going to be 22mm in diameter and 55mm in height. It weighs in at about 69g. It's body is constructed from 304 Stainless Steel, the connector pin is silver-plated copper, it comes with a delrin, wide bore drip tip and a delrin 510 drip tip adapter.

This RDA is available in black and stainless steel.

First Impressions:

So, the packaging is nice and simple. It is a white 2 piece box with the Indulgence Mutation X logo in the upper left corner under that is the V5 logo with a picture of the atomizer to the right.

Opening the box you find everything is laid out nicely. What's in the box? Well, there is the Mutation X V5, there's a ceramic plate to close off one side of the airflow for single coil builds. There is also a delrin 510 drip tip adapter, an allen key, a ton of extra O-rings, some replacement hex-head grub screws and some phillips head screws. Just a ton of extra parts in my opinion and I appreciate that, as someone that has a tendency to lose screws. The machining on this is nice with no burs, blemishes or imperfections. I also couldn't find any traces of machine oil, with a quick wash and rinse or a few minutes in an ultrasonic you'll be ready to go.

Let's take it apart:

From top to bottom: You've got the conical shaped delrin wide bore drip tip, airflow ring, AFC cap, the airflow tube with 9 holes on either side and the deck. This appears similar to some other RDA's but this one... this one offers just a little bit more in the way of options. These velocity style posts here... those come out as well turning this into a post-less build deck!

Build Deck:
So, let's discuss this interesting (to say the least) build deck just a bit. You get the velocity style posts with 4 post holes that measure 2mm x 3mm. Big enough to fit just about any size or kind of wire you can imagine in single or dual coils building format. But, you unscrew the posts and you have the post-less deck option for even bigger coils! You can seriously fit just about any build you can imagine inside of this thing. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning here is that none of the screws were installed on this RDA when I opened it except the ones holding the posts in place. But, because of the way this deck is designed you can use 1-6 coils with ease when the velocity posts are used in conjunction with the post-less deck (yes, you can do this as well)

Airflow:
The airflow options on this thing are really impressive as well. Whether you like a tight MTL draw, or a wide open, very airy DL draw, or somewhere in the middle you can really get it all from this RDA. You have the side airflow which is adjustable by spinning the AFC cap. It closes off 3 holes, on the left or right side, at a time and it is the same on both sides. It also has an indirect airflow option on the side if you keep spinning the AFC, there is an offset shield that will force the air down on to the coils allowing for a warmer vape as the air spends more time in the chamber. Then there is also airflow control on the top just under the drip top that can be adjusted by itself. It consists of 2 cyclops slits (which I can't find measurements on unfortunately nor do I have a way of measuring them myself at the moment). But when both airflow systems are open it will create a cyclonic effect inside the chamber for massive clouds. With the top airflow closed off and the recessed airflow fins behind the side holes the flavor is amazing.

Building and Wicking:

I have to say this is one of the easiest RDA's to build on, especially for it's size. I was a bit nervous when I realized it was *only* 22mm as I started building on 24mm RDA's, and the few 22mm I have tried to build on posed problems for me. But, this one, was relatively simple in comparison. Especially using the post-less option because there is so much room when you take the posts out. Wick this atomizer is pretty standard as far as I can tell. The juice well isn't massive, but it's deep enough that you can get fair amount of cotton in, and as long as you have experience with building it will come easy. If you have no experience building, this probably wouldn't be my first recommendation to you but for intermediate to advanced vapers it is great I think. Because of the size of the post holes you can easily fit just about any build you can come up with in here with ease.

PROS and CONS:
Pros:
*Well crafted
*Airflow options
*Deck options
*Hole sizes for leads (post and post-less)
*Velocity style posts
*Post-less option
*All the extra parts included
*Good flavor and huge clouds
*Versatility on mods with no overhang because it's 22mm
*Branding/Logos not over bearing

Cons:
*Increased learning curve for people new to building
*Overall size (I'm partial to 24mm and bigger RDA's so the 22mm is a bit small for my personal taste so this is a con to me.)
*Driptip included (I'm not a fan of the conical tips, so another wide bore drip tip option included would have been great. It does appear to be the same size as the Goon drip tips though so, maybe replacement options are readily available, but the O-rings would need to be affixed to the drip tip itself.)

Conclusion:

I would say the pros definitely outweigh the cons, and the cons are all very subjective to personal preference. Just because these are things that I dislike about this RDA does not in anyway make it any less of a great quality product at a great price.
Would I recommend this product? To an experienced builder, absolutely. To a person just getting into RDA's and rebuilding, I would not.
If all of my vape gear was suddenly lost/stolen would I buy this RDA again? I am going to have to say no to this one. It's not a problem with the RDA, as there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, it's just a little small for my tastes. If they made it in a 24mm option or bigger I absolutely would (*wink* *wink* *hint* *hint* Indulgence).
Overall though I would still say this was a GREAT product for people with experience in RDA's, and those that enjoy fancy coil porn type builds. And I would give it an 7.5/10

this is the build I'm currently using in the Postless configuration.

Nice write up! My V2 was my baby hahaha. I've always felt the Indulgence stuff was underrated. They're always creative and fairly well built. Good job!
