question about DNA chips

hello everyone
i heard something and i want to make sure of it ... i heard that the DNA chips have a sudden death issue .. is it right or it's some kind of accident?
i want to know because iam about to order the therion dna 166 and i don't want to loss my money

I have 11 DNA 200/250 mods and 5 dna40 mods one of which is the therion 166 and I've never had a 'sudden death'. Keep in mind that with electronics-nothing is ever fool proof. In everything mass produced there will be a margin of error. It's not a huge margin in this case though, the board sells in huge numbers.

When the 200 board first released some diy modders were having issues with the fuse blowing. The 250/166 board has a bigger dude which remedied the issue.

The issue was pretty rare and to my knowledge was even more rare in the early production mods, but was solved with a software upgrade early on, in even those cases. The dna 40 was wrought with screen issues, because of the vendor they used for the ribbon cable. But, in those problems they honored the warranty and while it was a pain in the ass, they did do everything possible to make good on it. The plague of the dna40 may be what you've heard about.
I really wouldn't worry much though, evolv does honor their warranty and that mod is a killer piece of gear! You'll definitely love it!!! Congrats on the purchase!!!

Some can have sudden death, that's 1 in 1,000 chance.... Well it happened to me.... With a Triade Dna200... The same day put batteries in.... Everythig went black...... I waited (2) months while my Triade was in Ohio somewhere......

I got it back with a new chip and I have used it every day for a year and works like a charm......

So buy one.... If something happens you get it fixed, if nothing happens it will go a long time.... I currently have (3) DNA 250....(1) DNA 167...... They all work perfectly .......

thanks @f1r3b1rd for your fast respond ... i really got worried since i read a post that the dna chips having this issue specially if i used the EScribe app and i really was disappointed cause i was about to order one after i read about it strong and accurate chip

my problem that i will buy from outside my country and if something happened like your situation it will be hard for me to send it back cause when it get fixed i don't have chance to receive it ... they will not let it pass from the customs :D

You can buy DNA boards, I doubt customs would know what the board is for if you had one shipped to you.

Like others have said, I have several DNA mods too, never had a problem with any of them. Still using two of the original DNA 40's once in a while...still work perfectly.

I did have problems with the DNA200, 2 out of my 4 failed, one dead on arrival, one pretty quickly after, both Hotcigs.

Evolv replaced the board in each case though, and they have worked fine ever since. It was the fuse in each case, which seemed to be an issue with the earlier DNA200's, but I do not think a DNA board is any more likely to fail than one by an other manufacturer, I was just unlucky.

this was a manufacture defect or misusing (as i heard by someone that wrong using of the app will lead to a dead chip ) ??

A defect for sure, the V1 hotcigs were plagued with issues from the start, and it was Dead on arrival so not even used (Well, as soon as I tried to use it I realised the issue).

The second was also a hotcig, but a V2. This one lasted for a few weeks at most if I remember correctly. I got this one sent to me for free by a man called Bennett at Hotcig as he felt bad with the issues I was having.

I never pushed them hard, plus the way the board is designed it would be hard to cause a failure- it may even be impossible to intentionally cause the input fuse to blow as it is limited to 24A in Escribe, and the fuse is rated at 25A.

I'm not willing to test that out though- it should not blow, but I don't fancy another dead DNA200. As Evolv replaced the Board in both cases, they must of thought it was a fault on the board or I think they would of sent me back to hotcig instead of them replacing it.

You seem to still be worried about the chip. I'm gonna be blunt and say don't be. I have 5 DNA 200/250/133's and carry 75's. I am yet to have one die, and am yet to have one returned. I had an HCigar VT133 come with a bad solder joint on the daughter board, but that was an HCigar component, not Evolv. The DNA board was working fine, and actually probably was helpful since it wouldn't detect a cell, and thus wouldn't fire.

As far as using Escribe killing a chip is concerned, I wouldn't worry there either. Any device of any sort has some risk when updating. Power goes out, etc... It can happen, but Escribe can let you re flash the chip, even reset to factory. Can you kill the chip with improper use, yeah, but not something I would worry about.

Evolv makes great products, and they go above and beyond in their customer service. Enjoy your mod! The chip will be fine, you're gonna love it!

@the fog , I second @skt239 s question, is vaping banned in Egypt? If so, that is a shame. If it is, is there a heavy punishment for those who are caught vaping? I do not know much about Egypt, apart from it is at the top of Africa and I used to think it was in the middle east lol. Not sure on laws there or how strict they are.
Is smoking legal there? If so it is strange vaping is either clamped down on, or banned.

As has been said, I really wouldn't worry. I know this is hard, especially if you have to buy a smuggled device that is likely at a more expensive cost (unless your friend is bringing it over for you, even then I can understand it would be a real bugger if it went wrong for you to get fixed).

I would say go for it if it is at the right price for where you live. If it is something like a standard, off the shelf model for $500 due to being smuggled, I would get something a little cheaper though. The DNA devices are fantastic- but not so good I would spend silly money on one.

The Therion is meant to be very good quality. I only own one product by Lost vapes, and that is the Efusion. That is one of my DNA200's that didn't go wrong, and the quality is fantastic. Seeing as you are going for the newer DNA250/167 board, I think all issues of the older 200/133's will be ironed out now.

Remember if you need any help to ask on here, I know many DNA devices come set up with profiles ready to use with different wire types, so you may not even have to use Escribe if you are happy with the performance out of the box :)

You really do love your big atties don't you :). Do you find them to be more flavoursome, or is it clouds, or a mix of both?
And is that a boxer? Very nice set up there.

I don't yet have a DNA250- to be honest I don't know if I will as it is getting harder and harder to justify new things, and my 200's work fine, with more than enough power for me.
The 2A charging and reverse polarity are nice though, and the extra power for a lot of people.

And for your question about vaping in Egypt there is no punishment for for vaping.. I can vape anywhere at anytime without any problems... the problem is when you order your gears from outside the country the customs hold it and not allowing it to pass... but if anyone having it as a personal use there is no problem... so I have to let someone who is coming to Egypt to buy for me... like I did 3 days ago ... I ordered the therion DNA 166 with tank and dripper and some tools and send it from china to France to my friend then I have to wait until he come back to Egypt to get my stuff ... That's the problem we have here ... other than that we all vaping here and no one can do anything to us or do any punishment for us

I hope your mod gets to your friend quickly, and you have it to use soon :). $200 is a lot, but I guess if they are smuggled they will always be more expensive than if you could buy them the normal way.

The therion should keep you very happy, a nice mod for sure.

I gather you enjoy temp controlled vaping then, and what mods do you have at the moment?

It really is a shame Egypt is this way towards vaping, is it a recent thing or has vaping always been like that where you are?
