I just started using mechanical tube mods two weeks ago. Is it weird that I have no interest whatsoever in regulated devices? I love the hit I get from these mods. I no longer see any value in temp control or VW. I vape the same way all the time. The mech mod gives me the perfect hit. Why vape with anything else?

I have a Strokkur on preorder, can't wait to get it!
Is it wierd?....no I don't think so..for those of us who are old school, we started vaping on mechs because they were the only way you could vape below 1 ohm coils....back then the lowest a regulated device would go was a 1.2 ohm coil....15 watts was the best you could get out of a regulated device, and I owned a 15 watt regulated device...and so of course I prefered mechs and have always used them, because like you say I liked the hit, and it allowed me alot of freedom building coils...fast forward to today with 200 watt devices..honestly I've never used a regulated device that went above 15 watts so I really couldn't tell you if they are worth it...all I know is about two years ago noobs were running around predicting the death of the mech mod...and for two years alot of us have been predicting the rebirth of the mech mod....it's finally arrived....the fascination with robomods is starting to wane, and interest in mechs is starting to be renewed....now if only we had a genisis revival.....

I'm thinking about my first mech since the ProVari was invented.

I'm looking at the DotMod tubes and I see they come in both 22 and 24 mm diameters.
Yet no mention is made of correct battery size. (that I can find)

Does the 24 mm Dot take the new 22700 size batteries? Or is ir just a fatter 18650 mod?

18650's both of them.

The 24mm just has thicker walls which should make for a better hit than the 22. Never tried either, just speculating.

It's a hybrid topcap.
There is no 510 pin on the mod. You screw the atty down and it makes direct contact with the battery.
I have several hybrid mechs, they are perfectly safe with the right atty.
You need an atty with a protruding positive 510.
Make sure whatever you put on top has the positive part of the pin sticking out a few mm past the threads(negative portion).

 Holee carp, I never knew that.

Thank you for yer (usual:)) clear explanation.
C'mon bro, you know ima lookout.
Don't let that keep you away from them though.
Like I said I love my hybrids; and, mechs in general. I've hardly been using my regulated mods lately in favor of the mechanicals. For both mtl and DL.

Is there any benefit in a mech mod for a tank user? (typically .2 - .3 ohm)
Benefit?
I use them with tanks around a 0.2
I'm not going to say that one is better than the other.
But you know me- I vape on every spectrum from TC with multiple wire types, programmed curves with high power to huge coils on a series mech to mtl with 28g microcoils at 12w.
Personally I don't see a benefit of one over the other.
I will say this: the smoothest power delivery I have ever had on anything from a DNA to yihi to mechmod is on the mechanical.

That smoothness comes at the price of feeling the voltage say that you don't get on a regulated device. The solution- change the battery.
I juggled between two mechs today and went through 5 batteries. Both were running very low builds though.
When I run my mtl setup, I would go through 2 batteries with a single coil build around a 0.3.

The other advantage is there isnt a board to break or a 510 to lose its ground or a screen to glitch. It's you, the battery, and the atomizer. So essentially that mechmod will never die.

Since I started vaping 4 years ago, every regulated mod has been obsolete in roughly 3-6 month intervals. My first mechmod is still running fine and is still relevant 3.5 years after I bought it. I have 6 mid- higher end authentic mechmods and haven't bought a new one in 2 years. The cool thing about them is if you get one with a low voltage drop, you really won't have to replace it, unless you get GAS(Gear Acquisition Syndrome). Whereas with regulated, there is that annual expense. You had a provari, you know what it's like to have a 200$ piece be rendered so obsolete that it is barely useful to you. Better yet, take joyetech and their revolving 510 problem, or any other regulated mod. No matter what they are only as good as the board. So it's nice having some pieces that literally won't be rendered unusable.

*** Disclosure: I'm not bashing regulated mods, I own 8 dna250s, a hexohm, 5 joyetech mods and about 15 others. Just stating an observation***

Also- at a 0.2ohm build and a battery at 4v (after it drops off the 4.2v full charge) youre pushing around 80w and 20a
So take your atty with a 0.2 build and set your mod there to give you an idea on expectations. At 0.3 you're around 53w and 13a.

I have a lot of boxes, in the last 1 month I switched to only mechs, the vape is just better. downside, battery life isn't as good as a box mod. have parallel boxes to fix that. I'm serious tho, I can take a box mod than a mech and the vape is just different from the regulated device. maybe it's the pwm... like in flashlights, one of my other hobbies. anyways mech it up! all day!

AV M1P5 clone from 3F with the Troll V2. Not too happy with the accuracy of the button housing on the clone but I see the potential of the AV style. This thing hits pretty hard and I didn't even clean it yet. Time to put some pennies aside for an authentic one I guess.

Pennies were put aside and given to someone who sent me a brass able in return.

Looks like you don't touch the top as much as the middle and bottom. There's no discoloration where the heat and vapor drift out the afc. If it was the heat you'd see discoloration there yeah?

There's spots by the AFC that are turning a purple, pink, blue, orange color. wish I could get a good pic of the color.

Different grades of copper patina in way different colors, I've got a fair amount of copper gear, patina varies from red to chocolate brown, some of the pieces include a rainbow of translucent hues as you describe. Some are really amazing looking, but nearly impossible to grab a good pic of it.

Tomahawk X clone next to a SMPL, love the Tomahawk X, short, light, hits great, nice button. Trying to find an authentic Tomahawk X, been looking for an authentic Tomahawk raw copper 22mm for a while now, one of these days I'll find someone wanting to part with one.

Unfortunately, using mesh for wicking material is definitely a lost art now, only a small handful of us left LOL
lmao, every vaper I meet at work is scared to use mechs. their response : I don't want to blow my hand or face off. you can thank the media for that. simple, Reply for me is OHMS law. know your build, resistance and battery. I feel like today's generation is kinda stupid, and all they rely on is social media for everything, also pintrest....

DITTO...
I learned to rebuild with a mech, ohm reader and a lot of trial and error.

Everyone back then kept yelling "get a Provari" I was stubborn. I preferred the look of a simple tube mech. I read, read, and read more. Watched a lot of how to videos. Had my lighted magnifying lamp at my side and practiced and practiced before I even attached the coil and actually fired it. Everytime I adjusted or squeezed the coil, I would re-check the resistance, just to make sure. Not saying I never had a problem, but if a button got warm I knew something was not right. I started off with coils at about 1.5 till I got the hang of it and slowly went lower to my usual .80 to 1.0 depending on what atty Im using.

Like most things in life , things are as dangerous as we make it. I think the mistake most people make is watching the really experienced ultra vapers do a how to, or go to a vape store and watch them put out 0.00002 coils and blast out a big giant cloud with out ever using an Ohm reader. The new vapers think its easy, peasy and get anxious and fiddle with a coil till it just works and then get problems like bad taste, dry flavor, intermittent hot clouds and ignore abnormal heat at the switch or tube and that leads to explosions eventually.

Just my opinion. I think people should stop relying on others ( media and so called experts ) find out where and who is giving said opinion and think for themselves a bit. If we dont start "thinking" for ourselves its gonna be a future like in "Wall-E"

PS. I do now own a couple Provari's, and a couple box VW. They have their place :)

Dude! had my first battery short on me. using the Raven. the spring thing inside melted to the battery and broke in half. how lame is that. never have had an issue with hybrids before. was using a glacier v2 plenty of 510 pin for hybrid use! the spring inside the mod cut the battery wrap and caused it to short. it did not explode tho or vent. just got really mother ducking hot! I'm scared to use it now... lol

At 40% of what a non blem costs, and fully functional ( No 3 month warranty ) it was a no brainer buy truly...can pick up a blem RDA also for $30, color ways are limited though.

Can pick up a black blem $80 and Stainless blem RDA $30 and have a complete set up for $110.

yeah, I think I'll cut my self a little thin plastic washer between batter and that spring because that's no good! that spring is bad! or washer or whatever it's called I also only have one now. u should get like twenty or something. I don't even know where to get spares..... once their all broke the mod is useless!
