Do I already need a new build? My coils look like this (see below)

These are pictures from after I had dry burned the coils.
I've had this build for about maybe 2 weeks. Is this rust? Or is it just residue from the e juice? Is it safe to vape on?

Yeah, rust probably from running it under the water to clean.
Throw new coils on it, I recoil every couple few days.

Give the deck and posts a good scrubbing with a tooth brush and some alcohol too.

Every-time I change my Japanese cotton I dry burn and tweeter my coils few times back into place until there new looking again and proceed...I never run the coils under the water. That's my opinion anyhow, my coils last for months

Mine may last for months too... I'll never know. Just like messing around with different builds and I think its a placebo effect, but I like fresh coils better :D

Also for newer builders, building coils all the time is a good thing. More you build, better you get (including wicking). Better you get, better your vape experience is.
Kanthals cheap too, tear through it till you can build perfect coils and find the perfect build for each of your setups.

Agreed, I remember spending hours trying to perfect as I am sure most of us have. Still fun :)

I see this after a few dry burn/new wick cycles. Easy to remove extra oxide on outside of coil with q-tip. Extra oxide inside the coil is wiped away when threading new wick (and then trimmed off). Works for me -- YMMV.

So you're saying this IS safe to vape on?

It's Kanthal, right? Iron rusts and it's just iron oxide. Aluminum oxides and it's just aluminum oxide. To my knowledge it's not harmful -- though you don't want loose particles. Wiping and cleaning with a q-tip yields a shiny surface, so I think you're good to go. It's not like a mold or bacteria, it's just an oxide. I then hit with compressed air to remove any loose matter in the juice well, coils, etc.

Okay I cleaned it sort of well, it looks better than before and the Orange is mostly off. I just want to make sure it's okay to vape off of. Like, will it hurt me in anyway if it IS rust? And not just caked-on juice?

If in doubt, recoil... Its cheap insurance.

Yeah i would recoil. It's probably not all that harmful, but you're also probably not getting as good of a burn or as good a flavor with that... and even if it's not incredibly harmful health-wise, it's certainly not helping.
