Hi, Y'all

Hi, Just joined VU after seeing on the retailer I buy my supplies from. I have been vaping for about 4 years, seriously for 3 and exclusively for a year now. I smoked for 50 years. I was a 3 pack a day smoker and quit cold turkey when I finally felt like I had to quit smoking or quit breathing. I quit smoking for 5 years. Never a waking moment passed that I didn't want a cigarette. I wasn't really quit, either. Several times a month I would sneak a smoke in "just to prove I wasn't hooked". Finally I fell with some smoking friends, and just gave up. I went immediately back to my 3 pack a day habit. I knew how bad it was for me, and after about a year, I heard about "e-cigs". I decided to try try them out.

All I could find were NJoys. They were pretty terrible, but I stuck with them because they were better than cigarettes. right? I had just about decided I would rather die from smoking when I discovered the cheap EGo kits. After I learned a bit about juice and temp and airflow, I got vaping to a pleasurable passtime and actually reduced my habit by 2/3's. I vaped in the house and went outside to smoke. About 18 months ago I got my first MVP 20W. I vape non stop... that was a huge change for me with vape through charge ability. I bought another MVP and started the habit of vaping one while the other charged. I would fill my tank and change my battery, that way I always had a good battery, with back-up for my phone if I had an emergency with a dead phone. About a year ago, I got to the point, again, where I knew I had to quit smoking or quit breathing.

This time, I laid cigarettes down and didn't look back; no cravings and no regrets. I haven't had a cigarette in over a year. When I quit, my average blood/oxygen concentration was down to about 86%, and I truly felt like I was dying. By the time I was quit for 6mo, my SpO2 was back up to 99%. The damage is done. I don't have the lung capacity I should, but if I don't over exert, what I have left is working like it should. I have now gotten to where I can't stand to be around cigarettes.

My twin still smokes, and I can't stand to spend much time around him. I am glad he doesn't come to visit more often, because he smokes in my house (even though he doesn't smoke in his own home). Having smoked for 50 years, I don't say anything because I know how I used to feel, but you'd think he might get a clue.

A few months ago I got an eLeaf, iStick 30 and a 510 thread, Subtank Mini. I actually like it a lot better than the EGo thread, Mini Protanks I have been using. I vape 100%PG at 10mg of nic. I make my own juice.

Welcome and glad you joined

Like you, it took me awhile and many false starts to give up smokes completely with vaping also - but it can be done if you keep trying :cloud:

Hi Dave and Welcome

New here to. Joined about a week ago. I decided to stick around here because there seems to be several of us older multiple decade smokers on here that have decided to make a change. I'm 54 years old and have found over he last couple of years that while the mind still thinks it can the body isn't so willing. My wife is a couple of years older than me. We had talked several times about quitting and never seemed to make it happen. I kind of figure age alone is starting to deal us a few cards that aren't helping. We didn't need to be dealing ourselves more lousy cards on top of those already coming our way. So we went down last weekend and bought ourselves a couple rigs and juice to get started. Tomorrow will be a week smoke free.

Welcome from another old ex-smoker, Dave. :) Vaping truly is the miracle we all wanted for so long -- to be able to quit, and NOT SUFFER! Hallelujah!

WOW! Congratulations! To both of you :stars: Once your wife gets straightened out to her satisfaction, she'll be a lot happier with vaping than smoking. It really made a difference in my health, and even my doctor is surprised at how my lung efficiency improved. She said that I really did save my life. She has a very positive attitude toward vaping, but is unfortunately, prevented from recommending it as an option. Her "employer" frowns on the practice....

Thanks Dave. It probably would have helped if I had listened to my wife a little when we were shopping. I think I would have probably recommended to her something a little more along the lines of a Kanger Evod or JOYE eGo line since it seems that was what she was expecting to get. Right now I'm thinking about putting a Nautilus on top of the battery that came with her V8. I just have to do some more looking and reading to make sure it isn't going to hit to hard.

Probably not a bad idea. Though I have been vaping for a while, I am not a real sophisticate. I really like my iStick 30 with the Protank Nano. It is simple with variable voltage to make it easy to adjust the vape, and the price is really nice. I just want a little cloud with good flavor, and I have no problem getting it from that rig. I also have a couple of iTaste MVP 2.0's and they are OK, but won't do sub-ohm. Still, with a 2.0 or 2.2 ohm coil and lower power, I get a cool pleasant vape with them.
