The bittersweet symphony of breaking in a new coil head.

Changed out the coil head in my maganus this afternoon, I primed the cotton and all, and let her sir and soak, going on about 5 hours now. So the cotton is def saturated. Vaping at 53w to break in the coils. On one hand it tastes just God awful. But on the other hand I'm getting the smoothest densest clouds I think I've ever had. The instruction manual says to vape between 1 and 3 tanks full at low wattage to correctly break in the coil. They gotta be out of their minds! Shoot, I'm getting a roll of wire and cotton bacon as soon as I can! Or going back to my baby beast (much shorter break in period)

This whole soak-the-cotton-for-ages and vape-x-tanks-at-low-power business is why I rebuild: if the build is messed up, I redo it in 5 minutes and at zero cost.

You only take silly precautions like that with a coil when you pay for it. I say quit the bittersweet symphony, learn how to build and put some jazz on :)

I get great flavor from a roll of wire and some cotton bacon right off the bat. Then after a very short period the flavor goes from great to absolutely amazing.

I still use some premaid coils for convenience but am getting sick of orderimg more packs. Im not ready to give up on them completely tho because they have their place in my arsenal.

If it take more than a few hits to break in a build....
YOU DID IT WRONG.....

IF YOUR WICK CANT ABSORB JUICE IN A MINUTE OR 2. rewick.

Wash your hands before rewicking. Nothing leaves tenacious funky flavors in a new build like dirty hands.

It's not the RBA deck that was giving me issues. It's the coil head that's taking a while to break in. I'm finally about half a tank through and I'm starting to get the flavors of the juice

I love Cleito coils on my exo. They start out very flat. But for me its really worth it. I love that tank when its firing on all cylinders.

I always carry a very small toolkit to rebuild on the go. It contains Ni200 wire, pre-wrapped coils, some cotton, scissors, screwdrivers of various kinds, hex wrenches, tweezers, a 3mm rod and a wick shaper. It all fits in the palm of my hand:

Who needs premade coils eh? :)

I keep a very similar kit on hand wherever I go. But I have not ventured into making my own coils yet, so more will be added after I finish my self education & get the needed supplies. But I never want to be caught out & about with a dead wick or coil! I also carry a spare tank for an even quicker fix when necessary!

i have the original maganus tank form way back. and the coils never needed much breaking in for me. prime them start at about 30ws for a few hits more up in 5w increments take a few more hits
in a minute or 2 it was working fine at 50watts
but i have moved on from that and just use rtas now

That's the way my smok baby beast is. Real quick break in.

I've pretty much decided to definitely build my own from here on out. It's cheaper for one, and it's not that challenging from what I can tell by my first build. Now I just gotta convince the wife that the initial investment is worth it in the long run

initial investment is low
scissors you have probably
nail clippers make great wire cutters
you can use screwdrivers or drill bits as rods or you can get coils jigs online for under $6
the biggest tool that comes in handy is ceramic tip tweezers
seacrh muji cotton on amazon get a crap load for under $10
and if you like stainless steel wire go to advancedvapesupply.com you can get standard wire or complex wire pre made clapton wire etc or coils and samples of different things to try
https://www.advancedvapesupply.com/products/premade-wire-sample-pack-5x-5ft-lengths
25 bucks and use code AVS15 for 15% off
thats 5 different types of wire and enought o make about 5 sets of coils depending on number of wraps and ID
