New Vaper Flooded Atomizer?

So as the title says I'm a new vaper, 10 days without cigarettes! I'm super stoked for that fact since I have been smoking for years. I bought the Smok stick for 50 bucks, originally it hit like a fucking mule and leaked like fuck. I found out the juice I was using was way fucking off a 50/50 VG/PG blend with 18 MG nicotine. Just way too fucking strong so I switch to the 80/20 VG/PG blend with 6 MG nicotine. This definitely helped I was getting small hits, but still kicked hard and leaked. Took it to my local shop they replaced the atomizer for 5 bucks and since then it doesn't spit/crackle/gargle and hits okay. The only issue I have now is when I leave it over night. In the morning to midday, I can barely take a puff and it kills my throat. The more I use it the better hits I get until the late day night time and it hits like a fucking dream. Nice ass clouds, smooth as hell hits. I'm guessing this is due to oversaturation as it sits over night. The shit is getting flooded, from not being used, flooded BS causes spitting/crackling/gargling, and shit hits. As I use it throughout the day and push through the early shit it gets better which makes me think it drys out a bit more and the liquid to hit ratio is better. Is there any way to avoid this shit morning/midday stuff. I could be wrong on my diagnoses I've only been vaping for 10 days. I will say though fresh in the morning I can manage only the slightest puff of wispy smoke. Midday I can manage a bit more but it hurts the same and is really just me pushing through. By the night, however, I'm blowing thick clouds super smooth. Any ideas?

Ya sorry for my minimal specs, as I said I'm new, I got a Smok stick kit. So the box says Smock V8 Kit Style Cloud Beast. Again the first hits of the day just killer. The more I use it the better it becomes. However, if I let it sit for an hour or so I lose clouds and smoothness. I feel this is an oversaturation issue. Which may be linked to the kit I received, if I new tank or atomizer can fix it, instead of buying an entirely new rig that'd be great.

If the specs say "Style" it's usually a clone, meaning someone copied the cloud beast, could be junk.

Are you using premade coils, or did someone in the vape shop build a coil for you?

Could be flooding if you're not giving the coil(s) the wattage necessary to vaporize the juice properly. I'm not familiar with that particular mod, therefore I don't know what type of settings are available to adjust. Try adjusting the watts or volts up in small increments, may help vaporize the juice.

Another tank would certainly be a good idea. Just when you think it's working perfectly something usually happens which turns a good day into a bad day. It's a good idea to have a couple mods and tanks in case the inevitable occurs. Backups for backups.

You could try cutting the airflow off before you sit the mod down.

Try turning the mod drip tip down and letting all of the eliquid drain to the top end of the tank then turning the airflow off before leaving the mod sit.

It should help some until you figure something out with a different tank.

Could also just be that you need different coils or build in your atty....

If budget allows, get a mod that allows you to adjust watts. Pico kits are very popular and budget friendly.

P.S. Welcome to the community. Congrats on quitting! :bliss:

This is the specific mod I have.

http://www.smoktech.com/kit/stick-v8

I cannot adjust the wattage or volts. The coil is just the default coil that came with the kit. So far I think I'm just going to roll with this and try the turning it upside down suggestion until I can buy a better mod.I really don't like how my tank glass just kinda sits on top of a gasket and doesn't screw in. So the entire tank can come off pretty easily spilling juice everywhere. As well as the other issues with flooding, spitting, crackling, etc.

This might sound like a bit of a weird solution but bear with it. You might find yourself getting your tank in optimum shape, even being a newbie.

First Smok Tech has been designing and cranking out tanks for quite a spell. They have an industry reputation, "Smok tanks do not leak." Of course, everyone knows there are exceptions to any absolute. With Smok Tech's tanks though these exceptions are truly that, full on exceptions that are getting rarer than Dodo birds. :)

If your tank is getting flooded you might want to try the vaper towel chimney clearing method. Vaper towel is what us nut case vapers call paper towels. What this method involves is leaving your tank together. Remove the tank from the battery part, which is often called the mod. It ought to unscrew fairly easy.

With your tank still together, take a vaper towel and put it down at the bottom under the centered pin. You might crumple the vaper towel if you want. The point is you hold it in one hand with your tank over it held by the other hand. You then blow through the drip tip, which is where the vapor comes out from.

If you're flooded, you'll get a bird dropping size of juice, maybe some gunk in the vaper towel. You'll then want to take a few dummy hits off the tank before putting it back on to the mod. This will draw air back through. you might get some juice in your mouth if you were seriously flooded. Spit, rinse your mouth out.

Next, you put the tank back on to the mod and it ought to be ready to fire up. This might help clear out excess juice from around the coil, in the chimney. Not saying this is the problem for sure, know though from experience it sometimes helped me when using tanks, yes Smok tanks. Other folks have made some good suggestions too. Hope we've all contributed to helping you out.

Finally we might ask which way you come in? ;) Then, we can really help you out. Kidding with you of course. :) Welcome to our humble asylum. Every other Thursday we get to be the doctors and every Tuesday we're all orderlies.

I want to first off thank everyone for their outpouring of support, it really makes this transition A LOT easier knowing I have people out there willing to help. To begin I tried the leave it upside down trick, this actually worked fairly well. I still had a harsh hit to start, but definitely noticed improvement substantially quicker. So now every night I go to bed I leave me mod upside down the next day I get maybe 20 crap hits, 20 meh hits, then from there it hits perfectly. I had actually tried the blowing method earlier due to a friend telling me this. I would unscrew the battery, open the air valve and just BLOW with a paper towel wrapped around to catch e-juice. This honestly made no real impact for me. I have found out a couple of interesting things though. One that when my tank glass originally came off and I put it on again I guess I put it on upside down!? I noticed the tank glass had like a sharper edge and a more rounded edge. I can't remember which edge was the right edge down, but I fiddled and found the correct edge to get the seal I needed on my tank. I can tighten it down now, not a problem and it doesn't come loose or completely just come off in my pocket. When changing out the Atomizer I realized the issues are less pronounced. So I'm guessing because I am using stock atomizers with a non-variable wattage/ohms it's just not going to hit right off the bat. It's going to take some time to hit the sweet spot. Which you know sucks, the good thing is I have identified the problem. So I can upgrade a non-stock atomizer to fit the wattage of my mod or find a mod that has a variable wattage to fit the atomizer I put in. This is my thought processes as a complete noob to this stuff. I have been vaping less than 3 weeks. So my ideas could be fundamentally wrong here and please let me know if they are.

Also, fun fact not attributed to this. I have a smoke detector positioned 3-4 ft from me. It sits on my wall above my PC Monitor which is just a shitty 36" Samsung TV. I have actually set off the damn smoke alarm with a pure vape. So for the age ol' question, yes vape can and will set off a smoke alarm.

Apologies for not getting back here a bit earlier. In my excuse I'm a human being, we're often fickle critters and prone to getting a bit lost at times. :)

Yeah, it takes a bit to "break in" stock atty coils. Atty being shorthand for atomizer. We always seem to give out the mantra steady and slow, low to on up you go. Start low on watts then gradually climb up in watts until you start finding that "sweet spot".

I am thinking the atty you've got with your mod was probably put it with it for sensible reasoning. Smok is a more decent manufacture out of the industry. Lots might poo poo on them for making cheap gear.

Yeah, fine so it's cheap and lets you get in the game easy? It is also usually pretty standard durable gear too, and they do extensive testing on it to see if it passes the 100 monkey test. "Will the hundredth monkey intuitively just 'get it'?" No, I'm not exactly defending them. Their own reputation speaks itself, quite well indeed to boot.

If you want to look into possibly learning to do rebuilding, you might consider an RDA over a tank. No pressuring here, merely offering suggestions. What does rebuilding have for advantages?

You get control over what Ohm rating your coils have. This leads to quicker and easier finding the "sweet spot".

You get coils that can last six months or longer if handled well. This might not seem too bad if you can find cheap prices on coils / coil head assemblies. Trouble being there's getting be a point where single coil pieces are costing 2-5$ each. Rebuild and you might pay pennies to have decent coils.

Rebuilding could possibly offer you a little scratch back. You learn to make up coils, you can start selling them for a reasonable cost. Learn to do it as an art form you can get a little more unreasonable in how much you charge, and actually get that price too.

If you want to look at rebuilding I suggest looking for an RDA or RDTA (Which is a rebuildable tank) that has a Velocity style deck, I'd go with 22mm wide or bigger. That type of deck is easy to learn building on. I don't fool too much in smaller build decks as my fingers aren't quite to par with dexterity.

Hope I'm being helpful and not clouding you over. :)

So I have learned alot over this almost month of vaping. This may help other along the way it may be worthless I dunno.

Leaking:
For me, leaking didn't start until my tank came off the lip of the gasket. I tightened it back down and got leaking ever since. To fix this I emptied all my juice cleaned everything out the gasket included with a paper towel. Then I realized the glass only sat a specific way. If I had it "upside down" it wouldn't seal. So if you are turning your glass tank without it getting tighter maybe the glass is upside down or e-juice has gotten between the gasket and glass.

Early Morning Shit Hits:

I have since been leaving my pen stored upside down so all the juice is at the top of it and not sitting at the bottom where the cotton is from the atomizer. This has actually helped quite a bit.

Spitting Crackling Popping:

You are not sucking hard enough, you need to have a constant hit to get it right. This is pen to lung hit like hitting a xxxx, not a cigarette where you pull the smoke into the mouth then inhale. You wanna do a straight "lung hit" as they call it. If you're getting harsh shitty hits, this can be scary you think if a small hit kills you then a large hit will destroy you. The truth is, in this case, more is less. The harder long hit I pull the smoother the overall hit seems to be. If you have a new setup and this is happening, replace the atomizer, I have tried every trick in the book to de-flood an atomizer and short of just smoking through it there really are no options I have found. Replace the atomizer and instead of priming it with e-juice, putting e-juice directly to the slots, just drop it in and do a few very hard sucks with the air closed off and no button push. You will see bubbles in the e-juice, keep doing this until no more bubbles come up.

Harsh Hits:

Find the right e-juice, when I started the shop gave me a 50/50 blend with 18MG nicotine. I told them about my smoking past and they said ya try this shit. They were fucking way off. Start with a Max VG 80/20 blend 80 VG 20 PG with a 3 MG Nicotine juice. If you find yourself hitting the pen ALOT then move up to a 6 MG nicotine e-juice. The nicotine in the e-juice should give you enough throat hit you really don't need the PG substance to add to it.

Upgrade:

Getting into this you probably bought a cheap mod for around 50 bucks. That's cool it gets you into the game and with the right e-juice it can keep you there and happy. To get the real vape experience though the real nice smooth hit with the perfect bite you are going to have to upgrade the mod. Something with adjustable wattage.

SIDE NOTE!

When putting in an atomizer for a beginner, specifically someone trying to quit smoking use a 1.5 OHM atomizer. This works really well with the Smok Stick V8. It comes with a 2.5 and a 1.5 atomizer I suggest switching to the 1.5 ASAP.
