The Hitman's Bodyguard Is No. 1 at Weekend Box Office

Despite garnering an overwhelmingly negative reception from critics, The Hitman's Bodyguard exceeded expectations, placing first in its domestic debut at the box office this weekend.

The Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson-led action-comedy from director Patrick Hughes earned an estimated $21.6 million in its opening weekend, already making back a significant portion of its production budget of approximately $30 million.

This weekend also brought with it the release of Logan Lucky, which underwhelmed with a third place debut. While it was well received by critics, the Steven Soderbergh-directed heist comedy, starring Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Daniel Craig and Riley Keogh, earned an estimated $8.1 million in its domestic debut. When adjusting for inflation, this puts Logan Lucky below Solaris' $6.7 million debut in 2002, making it the lowest wide release opening of Soderbergh's career. The film reportedly cost $20 million to market, on top of a production budget of $29 million.
