Help with Ijoy RDTA 200W SS Coils. Watts and Temperature

Hi. I have looked on the site a lot and found lots useful.
So I decided to join to ask something I couldn't quite find in a search.

I'll give as much info a possible so someone can help as best they can.

.. I have an Ijoy RDTA 200W Box Mod

.. Batteries - Dual Samsung 30q and dual Sony VTC5's so no problem with power, amps and volts etc as I never go above 120 watts but that's rare)
I usually vape between 80 and 100 watts in VW mode that is

.. Now. For the troubling issue I think I'm having.
I recently decided to switch to SS dual coils. To preserve battery life and put less strain on my mod.
.. I'm using 316L premade Clapton's and Aliens at 0.25 ohms (0.14 dual) which is what I'm at.

I understand i can us them in VW mode at around 40-60 watts. But am going towards TC mode and using the SS setting.

I'm at 250°c and 35-50 watts
Air hole fully open
However, I am getting spitting from the coils at 40watts after just a few seconds. ( unless I hit it hard and really suck on it haha )

The flavour is good and the lack of heat is a nice change from what I was at.

I want to know if I am around the right limits as spitting can be caused by not enough watts. But when I go higher. Around 50-70 watts. It spits more and faster. So I'm kind of in a bit of head mess with it all.

Wicking is fine. Not too much and its not flooded. Cotton bacon v2

I'm just at a loss with if I'm at the right place with TC in terms of watts and temperature.

The last add on is that while vaping the temperature is set to 250°c but never goes past 150°c when firing
Am I doing something else wrong I don't know about?

Any help would be great.

Summary.

TC MODE
35-50 watts at 250°c but won't go past 150°c when firing ( same at 50-70 watts)
0.14 dual Clapton's and alien coils

The only thing I'm really confused about is why its not passing 150°c when I'm setting it to 250°c
And I think I'm at the right place with wattage so I'm really confused haha

When you're in tc you should've a split screen. Watts on top, temperature on bottom. Adjust wattage by first selecting down. Adjust temp by first selecting up.

I had the same problem with ss tc on the rdta box. I just gave up. I would get 0° celcius at 60 watts but it would fire. Other times I would get a temperature reading below what I set it at and it would be a hot vape. So I switched it to the custom curve.

Hi johnny. Thanks. sorry I should've said I know the part to alter wattage and temp, but what it is thats happening is when I fire...
the temp instead of rising from 0 to 250 as a maximum and then slowly decreasing the watts to cool the coil, its actually going up a little at a time, which is good, but its just to 150° then down to around 130° and up a little more. But not past 150°.... Could it be that its an incorrect Reading? And its actually going past 200-240 and reaching 250 but the chip isn't showing the right numbers maybe? Because the watts do drop a little after a few seconds

I even tried constantly holding the fire but the time limit hit and still it only reached 182° max. So I got an extra 32° but that's not helping as its hardly enough to properly release the full flavor.

But then its spitting also at that temp and at 60-70 watts.
I can't imagine it needs more wattage than that, can it?

I may be doing something wrong with the wick actually, its the only thing I can think of. But its not tight and not too long in the tank and not loose. So I'm stumped.

No issues when I put kanthal coils in either. Just SS.
Maybe I need more time experimenting with it.

Thanks for your response! :)

I got stumped too. I even adjusted the tcr in M1/M2 to no avail. I always got an extremely hot vape, despite adjusting wattage and temp.

As for spitback, that's mostly wicking. Wicking problems shouldn't just happen in tc mode. I found removing the base ring before I wick would make things easier. After tucking the wicks into the tank, I would drip onto the wick. With the wicks wet, I could shape them in the wick notches in the deck. After all is done I would screw the base ring back on.

I have re-wicked this morning and the temp seems to be getting a lot better. Its now raising to 220+ before the wattage drops a little from 50w to 45w then back up again. So its much better now.

The wick must have been slightly too wet.
I know I said it wasn't flooded in my original post but that's because I thought it wasn't as with kanthal it never seemed that way and it looked a lot more wet than it did with the SS coils.
But with SS I suppose you gotta be slightly less thorough with the juice.

I feel both better and slightly stupid as I think now it was a bit flooded.

The temp is now sweet and the spitting is down to a minimum.
It still does it a little. Bit only at really high watts (50-70)
I'm now at 30-45w with 0.14 ohms at 250°c as I was to start with bit heating better results.
Do you think that's about the rght place to be on terms of watts temp and ohms ?

And thanks for the help. I got there in the end haha

For a 0.14 build @ 250°C I'm amazed you get anything at 30-45 watts. Especially since you are running beefy coils. But if it works, then great.
Sometimes spitback/wet vape is a result of too low wattage. Not enough of the juice is atomized. Try bumping up the wattage and see what happens .
Enjoy dude.
