Nicotine before sleep?

GeorgeTz6

Member For 2 Years
I have seen many threads by people saying that they have difficulty sleeping if they vape before bed...
I can't understand this, as I can't really sleep without a little vape before...

I have made another kind of controversial thread about my relationship with nicotine, and about dripping 18mg and getting 6-7 buzzes a day, on a normal day...
That might have changed something in me...

I have noticed some worrying things lately...
Like having kind of a weird mood, and slightly higher heart rate while trying to sleep, and then I have a quick vape and I'm fine...

I don't know what to think of this...

Another weird thing is that in a really really busy day sometimes I don't vape.. I don't even think about it...

I've been brushing it off for a while but here I am 6:20am....
I challenged myself not to vape before sleep , and it hasn't been going well as you can probably understand...

Should I be worried?

(Please don't start being nasty and sarcastic, this is a real question, and I'm starting to get worried)

I vape from the time I get up until I go to bed. If you start feeling jittery; take a walk, go for a drive, play with the dog if you have one, just move & distract yourself for a bit. Have you tried dualing 18mg and 9mg juices? Might be worth a shot.

I've noticed at times I don' wanna go to bed cause I'm enjoying vaping so much lol. Specially the first couple of days I have with a new device. Usually though, I vape more before bed. As in, preparation or something. I'll even turn off the pc and monitor and sit here for a while just vaping right before bed. I don't actually bring my vape to the bedroom though(an old smoking habit, never EVER smoked in my bedroom). Also if for some reason I wake up (usually to piss) I won't vape I'll just do my thing and try to get back to sleep asap. One thing that helps me a lot on restless nights is I will put some white noise, waves, a favorite movie or something of the like on my phone. Just for noise though, I put the screen face down to minimize the light it introduces to the room. I have one of those minds that constantly over thinks things and I worry a lot about stuff that doesn't necessarily warrant the attention I give it. I find that just trying to listen to something and even sort of repeat what I'm listening to silently in my mind, it helps to squelch my own interpersonal dialogue enough to help me get my zzz's. The other thing I find very helpful is a fan. It really helps me sleep when I have fresh air blowing on my feet, face, or pref both. I actually installed a ceiling fan directly over my bed for this purpose. I like to pull the covers up to about my knees and let my feet hang out. Just a few things that help my restlessness. Hope maybe it can help you too.

My dogs are invaluable when it comes to my personal mental health and satisfaction. I find it hard even to sleep sometimes if my 220lb dog isn't in bed with me lol. Also on hard days, there's nothing like coming home to 360lbs of wagging tails and floppy faces. They are so happy to see me when I get home that all the shit from my day is cleansed away and for a moment I can just be happy with my pups. On particularly difficult days, I'll have Hank lay down on his side and I'll just bury my face in his belly and listen to him breathe. That type of unconditional love can be very therapeutic. I rely on my dogs in ways I've never been able to with any human. Sure it's comforting to have a loving wife that cares for you and is generally concerned. There's just something about the understanding between a dog and their humans that can't be replaced.

Absolutely agree. My Em is only 17lb. & I couldn't sleep without her snugged up against me. Within about 5 seconds of getting home I have the cleanest eyelashes on the planet! If I can't unwind & drop off to sleep we get up and play outside under the street lamps. Just laughing while we play relaxes me immediately. Been that way with every dog I've been fortunate enough to share my home with. George if you don't have a pet, get one. Doesn't have to be a dog.

If all else fails, I have 2 wheels and 1800cc's that make enough noise to drown out thought and the wind offers enough physical sensation to distract me from everything else and I can just become one with the road, the scenery, and the smells. I disappear on some windy back road until I feel like returning to mundanity.

I have a french bulldog puppy, and I kind of take him as granded even though I probably couldn't live without him...

Try making eye contact with him and reward him with treats for doing so. It's hard to take things for granted when you are making eye contact with them. Once you have his attention try and teach him sit, shake, down, roll over etc. You'll find it's really rewarding for both of you.

Edit: Treats don't necessarily mean dog treats. When I train my pups I use their dry food as treats and they get their breakfast straight from my hand. That's given me great results as far as respectful and obedient dogs.

Isn't eye contact what dogs do to challenge it's other?

BTW where I live it's 7:32am , and I haven't even closed an eye...

Maybe I'll just go the oll'xanax route...

Hope I don't get the ban hammer like on ECF

It could be something like a paradoxical effect... much in the way of giving ADHD kids uppers like Ritalin to calm them down. I've never taken that, I suffered ADD long before anyone knew it was a thing, but in my extracurricular explorations of stimulants, I've noticed that sometimes they just make me feel calm and in-control, completely opposite how I usually feel. :D

I always like to have a vape before bed, just as I always had a cigarette before bed, but when I first started vaping, first switched from smoking, I did notice that I actually needed a slightly lower nic level from sometime after dinner till bedtime, or I got the racing-heart sensation, not conducive to sleep at all. But after I had gotten over all the physical symptoms of smoking cessation, that went away; I no longer needed stronger in the morning nor weaker at night, i just vaped the same level all the time.

BTW, I replied to your earlier thread about getting a buzz from nicotine, but I wasn't trying to be nasty or sarcastic or unpleasant, just trying to communicate my understanding of nicotine use; I suppose there was a part of the 13-yr-old me who really liked that dizzy feeling that cigarettes gave me, but once that feeling had gone, I was good and hooked on smoking; since I switched to vaping, the only time I've felt that dizzy spin is with too-high a level of nicotine, and it can lead directly to hours of nausea -- NOT fun at all. I wouldn't wish it on anyone!

Wolves maybe. There are plenty of people that would argue the point. Those people I politely ignore.

I've owned, handled and trained dogs all my life. It's what I do on the side and directly where my vape budget comes from. I do a lot of reading on the subject. I've trained dogs to herd cattle, I've trained dogs for personal protection, dogs have an in built purpose that they were bred for. Only in very recent times were they bred for looks.

Domesticated dogs look to their humans for companionship and leadership (depending on how that relationship has been nurtured). There are dogs that absolutely run their households. Mine are very much part of the household and know exactly their place in it. They know there are rules and they know to follow them. I've never had to physically discipline any dog. Dogs are extremely intelligent. They pick up on acute changes in body language and tone of voice. If a dog makes eye contact with you, (depending on circumstances but assuming it's your dog and you are friendly toward each other) it means that they trust you and are looking to interact with you in some way, or their food/water bowl is empty lol.

Most dogs aim to please their humans. My dogs, can tell when I'm upset and offer me their attention. My female, brings me gifts when I get home. Dogs left to entertain themselves and have little to no human interaction, are often the trouble makers. It's not their fault, it's their human's fault. Yet 9/10 times the dog gets blamed for their own natural behaviors instead of their human channeling their natural tendencies into wanted behaviors.

A lot of people buy a dog breed that they think looks cool, but never take the time to actually read about the breed and what they were bred for. For example, I see a lot of people complain that their rat terrier is to excited and energetic. They got them cause they are small and cute. What they don't realize is those dogs were bred for hunting, you guessed it, RATS, and that they have a high prey drive and lots of energy to accomplish the job that they were bred for.

I could go on and on lol. Sorry.

TLDR; Making eye contact with your dog is not threatening unless the only time you make eye contact with them is when you're threatening them.

I bought a Frenchie because it is as much a couch potato as me...
But I live how they look too..

It's a good one too...
It learns farelly easily...
It knew how to go on potty pads since it was 4 months old...
And it's genetically pretty good, as much a Frenchie can be anyways...
It has no problem breathing fine, it has big air holes in its nose, and it's face is not completely crashed by frying pan...
I was lucky with this one

I wouldn't be worried unless it affects you in a bad way - I actually have a dedicated vape for bedtime

Now, about once a month I have a hard time getting to sleep and probably vape a little too much, but it usually happens when I'm already wound up about something. I've tried not vaping during those times and I just get more antsy

Note the eye contact at the end. Totally not threatened lol. Hank will be 5 years old October 11th. Love the lil bastard to death. Even if he slobbers on me EVERY time I try to remove my shoes lol.

Also, I should apologize because I was being sarcastic in the other thread. Reason being, most of us use vaping as harm prevention. Not to get a buzz from nicotine etc. I hadn't yet realized you were being serious. I really did think you were trolling. So I sort of "played the game".

Seems like you just need some support and possibly a little outside help i.e. professional. We can do our part here to help in any way we can. You gotta do your bit too though. Best of luck to ya bud. It's 11:37pm here now, so I'm getting ready to have a good vape and hit the sack.

I have a hard time sleeping regardless of what I do. When I smoked, I had to have a smoke before bedtime, now I just vape before bedtime. No help sleeping, but not worse off either.

You shouldn't be too worried mate, I'm the same way when it comes to bedtime vapes. I like to have a nice fruity vape before my bed time of 0600, usually raspberry or cherry. Honestly, if ya worry too much THAT will probably be more unhealthy for ya, so just relax, maybe vape a lower nic juice a little before bed, and don't worry.

EDIT: Frickin' auto correct

I vape between 0 and 3mg nic. I give that as a range because when I have a few bottles getting low,I mix them all together into one big bottle.

Anyway, I vape at bedtime because that's what I've dedicated as MY time. I get home from work, take care of the girls while my wife cooks and does her studying, so I don't get much vape time until everybody's asleep. I don't know if it's the nicotine keeping me awake at night, or just the fact that I get to bed so late. I don't have a problem sleeping, but it's gotten to be a daily struggle just to stay awake during the day.

Nicotine is the most complex thing for vapers.. the longer you vape you have to adapt and listen to your body. I'm at a point now where I'm only comfortable with 1.5mg. I stick to this as 0mg just doesn't give you the thickness and satisfaction of the vape otherwise I would cut it out altogether. I'm a chain vapour. At one point I was seriously worried about my health as I had restricted breathing and soreness of lungs every morning also erratic heart rate (well it kind of felt like it) I almost packed in until I reduces the Nic content and wow what a difference .. everything back to normal.. if your a mouth to lung vapour I recommend that you get the Nic down as low as possible.

Let's see smoked for 40 years..... vaping last 3....

Two times every day when I HAVE to Vape Or smoke..... get nic fix.... when I wake in morning... and before sleep.

My question is... if you didn't or don't already use nicotine prior to vaping.... Why Vape and further why nicotine? THERE ARE PLENTY OF SAFER AND BETTER DRUGS OUT THERE.

No, not always, getting eye contact means also that they are giving you their full attention and is vital when you are training the animal, but in a situation where you have a dog being aggressive, that is the time it is best not to have it, especially if the animal is cornered and angry or afraid. Remember fight or flight. Trained a few in my time as well:)

I suppose things can affect people differently so hard to say. I don't feel real significant effects from the nicotine in vaping but then I smoked for 20yrs and when I quit I was smoking 2pks a day full flavors. Even 18mg mtl when I started vaping seemed weak compared to smoking. I also have no issue drinking a cup of coffee before bed or a soda, I don't get all wired on the caffeine. I don't bounce off the walls if I have a couple espresso shots. Could be I just have a higher tolerance to things in general.

Not always but usually the effects of nicotine (at least with smoking) can vary depending on how it's used. It tends to have a more relaxing effect when taking a long deep slow puff where rapid hard puffs like hotboxing tend to act as a stimulant. Not sure if it's the same with vaping or not, I'd almost think it would be.

Sleep in itself is a whole subject, not sure vaping is the only real contributing factor. If having trouble sleeping maybe consider a sleep therapist. A lot of things go into it, mental state (do you have a lot on your mind), breathing techniques, meditation, your diet, how soon you eat before you go to sleep, ritual or schedule habits (ie, do you go to bed the same time every night with a routine), what pillow you're using and how it aligns to you, same with your mattress.

NOT INTENDED TO BE MEAN OR SARCASTIC!!!

This is withdrawl. If you smoked and went cold turkey you know this feeling.

The receptors in your brain that takes pleasure from nicotine need a high level to stay satiated. Your best bet would be to stop buzzing from nicotine. There are two things that will happen if you don't reduce your amount of nicotine and buzzes.
1. You will need more and more to get "buzzed"
2. Your heart will become damaged from over stimulation.

I am a volunteer firefighter and i saw someone hurt themselves with caffeine from energy shots and other sources. Nicotine and caffeine. Are similar stimulants.

All I ask is you be safe. Don't let any addiction rule your life.
