My first exotic coil

Just started building today. Used to buy competition grade premade tri core claptons but wanted to try more exotic builds that are hard to come by were i live (netherlands) I ordered some wire that came in today. (26ga ni80, 36ga ni80, 22ga kanthal, 32ga ni80) It came at around 10 o clock in the morning and i immediately started building. Watched like a thousand building videos in the weeks of waiting so i knew what to do. I started by practicing claptonning itself. I took some 26ga and claptonned it with the 36ga. It took me 3 tries to get it perfect and fast. After that i immediately went to try the staple staggered fused clapton. Stacking the ribbon was such a pain in the ass, but after searching a bit i stumbled upon @raymo2u and his vg oil method. I stacked my ribbon properly and staggered my clapton using the button method. I didnt loosen my clapton tho so the fusing didnt go as smooth as i thought. Since i have no swivel or real workplace i had to do everything free hand and my ribbon didnt want to lay well. This was my first attempt first attempt.jpg .
I wasn't rlly happy about it and wanted to perfect it this day. I took some 26ga again and spaced claptonned it in 32ga. Then i stacked my ribbon again, this time making it as straight as possible before stacking. Then instead of masking tape (doesnt rlly work if you use vg oil to stack your ribbon) i used some pieces of 36ga and manually wrapped it around the beginning, middle and end. I noticed squidoode didnt center his wire in the beginning but rather put it between 2 chucks in his drill, so the ribbon is less likely to twist. I did that and fused a little with 36ga. Then i centered my wire and this time rlly took my time fusing. I was fusing for like 20 mins! rlly slow. But i finally did it. This is how my wire looked at the end Screenshot_20170904-180907.png
Made enough for 3 coils. Bout to wrap myself a dual coil. Going for 5 wraps on 3mm screwbit. Fits perfectly on my goon. Can't wait to vape on it!!

Edit : Vapes like a charm. Waaaaay better than those premade fused claptons. For someone that liked to vape on fused claptons/staple staggered fused claptons what would you guys recommend? Wanna go as fast as possible and take things to the next lvl quick. Oh and btw its 8 o clock in the evening atm. I was building for 10 hours straight haha

Welcome to the build hobby! Looks good! Id work on getting swivels 1st thenwork on cpil wrapping. Imho A vice is necessary equipment for coiling any ribbon builds. Use a vise to hold the end of wire plyers to pull and your thumb to keep constant tension on the coil while wraping. It can be tricky at 1st but be sure to keep heavy tension on coil untill its finished. Keeping the diameter and spacing consistent helps make setup and wicking easier and more effective. Fewer hotspots too

Yh i didn't want to start with staple coils for that reason, I read that they were very hard to coil. I've already ordered some ball bearing swivels and better quaility wire (higher gauges also). As for a vice, as i mentioned i dont really have a workplace so i cant really mount it to anything. If i bought this one https://www.datona.nl/bankschroef.h...EuxL0OSraCFmv47NVFMJs5cUDzIb6mxxoCKAMQAvD_BwE
Would i be able to just keep it unmounted on my desk?
Cheers

Not really that one will want to tip over if not mounted.
Lots of guys use a small drill press vise. You probanly saw one in squidudes videos.

Aight I've found something just like that. Ordered it now. Should be here in 2 days . And how do ppl make builds like this? 14717519_218246888625541_3808259677871931392_n.jpg i understand the ribbon wire but what are the frames made out of? Looks to me as if the frames are also made out of stacked ribbon wire claptonned with a slight spacing/interval and then fused together again. Probably with 42ga. Its a build from @raymo2u. Im looking to do a build like that too.

Correct. Both the core and frames are stacked .3 Ribbon wire, the staggering and fusing with this specific build I believe was 44g.
If your on Instagram you can watch my live streams when I do them and I teach people how to accomplish alot of the builds they see on my page.

To achieve the gaps you need to clapton with 2 or more strands of wire and then remove one+ and then that leaves the spacing for the fuse later on

nice, i just signed up for instagram >.> Will be on the lookout. As for the staggering i usually use the button method, but i havent worked with wires higher than 36ga yet so maybe it wont go as well with those. I am quite good at claptonning already and prefer to use squidoode's method where i put tension on the wire with my hands so adding another one in the mix wont be that big of a deal i hope.(i keep my spools on the ground with a baedolon spooltamer on it a little loosely, so it doesnt add any extra tension on the wire but rather keeps it from unspooling). I have already ordered some finer wires but since they are coming from the US it takes a couple of weeks before its in. Thanks for the reply tho. Oh and if you do builds like these can you like still vape em on a regulated device? I just got a new vaporesso revenger and it can go from 0.05 ohms and up. And is working with .3 ribbon different than .5?
cheers

If your goal is staggered ribbon builds like the one above youll have to learn to paraclap. When using higher guages (36 and finer) ribbon stacks tend to abraid and break the loop wire when your using the button or weighted loop method. Plus the precise stagger you can get from paraclaptoning is well worth the time to learn.Others here taught me the ziplock bag method for paraclap and it works great! I can now stagger anything faster than when i used the weighted loop. Ill post a link in a minute here.
