Cleaning question

Well, the time has come.

It is time that I give my Kylin RTA a good cleaning. The way I go about cleaning my other tanks (a baby beast, and BIG baby beast) is by completely disassembling and soaking all parts aside from the coil in a bowl of warm water. Then I'll remove all the pieces and get into all the cracks and crevices with a q-tip.

I plan to do the same with my Kylin, but I'm not sure if it's necessary to remove my coils. Sure, I know to remove the cotton, but will the coils be okay to soak?

Thanks everyone

I clean my pico every time I change flavors and it's a lot. I clean it everyday notmally. Here is how I clean mine. Not sure if it's correct but I have had no problems with it.

Disassemble and run everything under hot water. Make sure you don't drop any small parts like grommets. I pull the cotton out of the coil. After everything is rinsed I wipe everything down with a paper towel. I make sure all the water is out. Dry fire the coil 3-4 times running under cold water after each fire. After the coil looks new again and all the gunk is off I test it for ohms and if it works correctly. After that wick, prime wick and reassemble. Fill it full with juice. Should be good to go after that.

Thanks for the timely responses! I don't have time today to be building new coils so this is great news

I have been told coils last any where from 1-3 months depending on how they are maintained. There are a lot of factors but a general idea. Mine lasted two weeks and then I got new wire and the tools to build coils. Now I am learning what works for me. Different ohms, wire, inside diameter to find what I like the best.

I throw everything in my ultrasonic cleaner filled with either hot water or cheap, gutrot vodka. I can't say I've ever had a coil go bad, although I change them often. I have a small, stiff brush I use to brush most of the crud off between cleanings, then run it under hot water, then dry burn them.

I have 2 builds older than 1 year...... I have a heater in the shed that is almost 40 years old..... wife has a hair dryer about 20 years old.

Kanthal and Nichrome coils can last a long time.....

Most of mine get replaced because I want to try some thing else or I damage the coil during rewicking.

I have been changing them probably every two weeks. About 3 weeks ago I think I found the perfect build and temp for me. I changed 4 of the RDA's and 1 RDTA all the same and don't plan to change until necessary. Only took about 9 months for this to work out for me. LOL

I do have a few others I left to try new builds in. I didn't want to stop trying to find something better.

Another vote for the ultrasonic.

No need to scrub anything. Ever. And it gets everything cleaner than qtips et cetera ever can. Plus cleans any crevice even qtips can't reach.

I just use water most of the time. I will add a drop of dawn soap in the wash for the initial cleaning of new attys to get the residual machine oil off.

If you don't have an ultrasonic, there is an astonishing likelyhood you are vaping machine oil. Unless you boil your attys.

Nope, no ultrasonic cleaner as of yet, but do plan to buy one in the future. For the time being I'm just soaking the tanks and doing what I can with Q-tips. Gotta improvise with what you got!

I know what you mean. Just add it to the list. Mine just keeps growing.
