I have been reading about ribbon wire and want to give it a try. I am fairly new to building. I am just making basic coils right now. Which type of wire should I go with...Kanthal or Nichrome 80? Which size is best for either? Will mainly be used on regulated mods. TIA for replies :)

I use both although I use kanthal the most though 0.4x0.1 is size I use most best all rounder IMO

0.3x0.1 is a pita to work with until you get a few builds under your belt

0.5x0.1 is large and is easier than 0.4 but unless your are building in a big deck you'll be needing more wraps to keep resistence up a little

What type of coil build are you planning to make? There's at least half a dozen famous build types using ribbon wire that I can think of... so it greatly depends.

I am pretty up in the air on that. I am pretty new to building so trying to figure out something that would be good for a beginner. I am just getting sick of the single wrap basic coils. Looking to branch out a bit.

Framed staples would be a good first build with ribbon. Regular staples would be good too, but they are harder to coil without the ribbon collapsing.

This is assuming you can make simple fused and single core claptons.

Would be very difficult to coil a ribbon coil unless it has a clapton wrap of some kind.

Some twisted builds can be done with ribbon, but I have never been a fan of twisted builds at all.

I have tried using ribbon as a wrap wire, and I was not happy with the result. Long ramp time and violent popping.

Twisted builds can work... it just depends on what exactly it is you're twisting. For example try the zipper staple tiger coil build:

My most recent coil build and that also uses some ribbon is a dual coil trigerton:

Flat wire is a bitch to work with for any slightly advanced coil. The main problem is using ribbon wire as your core and keeping the strands together and keeping them from twisting. Watch lots of videos.
I think to start with a dual core clapton would give you a decent vape.
