This may be a dumb question but is it safe to use two different types of batteries in a regulated device that runs on two 18650s? Like would it be ok to use one vtc4 and one vtc5?

Always use a matched set of the same new batteries for a dual setup. If you use different batteries it can cause one to get un-balanced an cause issues. With dual batteries all ways use and charge them together.

Like oggy said, it depends if they're balanced. In this case they're different mahs. So the vtc4 may eventually start drawing power from the vtc5. Vaping is a more serious business than stacking in a flashlight or radio for example. Best advice is keep your batteries paired when you buy them as even the same brand and capacity are questionable at the best of times.

It's generally accepted practice to use a paired set of batteries in a dual battery set up. In a pinch though if the batteries were both new and had the same mah and c-rating,or same continuous amp draw as long as both were equally charged you could. It's much easier if they are paired though.

Look I personally will not do it hell I wouldn't do a old battery and a new one . But I am COD to I never mix but that's me

Get a new, matched pair (identical batteries) and keep them paired for the life of the batteries. Don't use them seperately in different devices. Once you match batteries they need to stay matched. If one of them goes bad before the other, throw them both out and get 2 new ones. Battery safety is not something to play around with.
