Looks invented, like part of a key ring...
But here's a guy making useful coil-making gizmos.
I don't twist my own, so I don't know for sure - but the "core holder drill insert" sounds maybe like what you want??
There's also "spin clips" and wire holders....
That thing looks awesome. .. Gonna look into the ones you linked.. thanks. Right now I'm using a Bobby pin cause my wire keeps popping out of the Chuck. And on my swivel i have a key ring

ever use a Cotter Key for that purpose?
more solid rounded shank for gripping in the chuck.

Ohh that?
It is a sample holding chuck used for holding flat material or wires for tensile testing.
Not sure where to get one.

google Clamping chuck maybe?
A Google search pulls up lathe chucks...lol

Edit- not sure why it didn't load all of the replies before I posted below.

I think he's referring to the part in the chuck. I was gonna grab a cotter pin at the hardware store but I found something better. Then, yesterday, I ordered a jewelers hand vice that can be chucked up. I wanted something to hold wire flat and stable. I also use round clips like is also shown in the pic. They are flattened and work better than paper clips.

It should be really easy to fab a clamp like he has if you have the right hand saw.

oh alright... I thought it was a complete custom chuck but its just an insert that your existing chuck clamps down on... its just a split rod
Chucks like that are available at tooling houses. Too replace the chuck on you drill. In most cases the chuck is removable on drills.

But then I have a lathe with chucks that will hold wire and yet I still twist wire by hand. Using gravity and a weight.

Yep just a split brass rod with a couple of grooves and Orings to hold it together.

It may not be as handy or clever as that chuck from classic clouds but you may be able to get a similar effect by using a mini collet chuck set. The inserts are brass, they can be found on amazon for like $5-10 and some of the collet inserts even though they're 4 jaw instead of 2 will close down tight. Ignore 2 of the slots and just use the ones that line up with either other, by the time it's clamped tight it shouldn't matter. Then it should fit into a standard drill chuck like a drill bit but I'm not sure of the outer diameter of the collet chuck.

ok took that idea and ordered a pair.
power tools and current meds are not advisable, hell being vertical is kind of risky atm. will experiment when able and let ya know.

Wow that looks extremely useful! I sometimes have issues with wires moving up in the chuck and becoming off centered, that's a nifty thing to have..

I know this is a really old post but USA Ohm Meters redesigned their core holder/clamp/chuck thing. I just ordered one a few days ago.

You can take that screw out and use the provided wing nut instead. That's how I do it.

I got one from Atom Customs in Canada. The plates kind of got wore out pretty quickly.

I posted about getting one of them here and on Reddit. They sold out in a few days. They haven't been in stock since šŸ˜.

I'd definitely recommend 3D vape's flat core holders, but you gotta be patient. The new one at USA Ohm Meters looks like a big improvement over their last one. The older one had 4 Phillips head screws to tighten down SMH.
