its pretty amazing what you can hide when you install and photograph these things lol...the pics look so clean compared to the actual wire. almost every wrap of both of those coils has jank or some kind of imperfection, but with the right camera angle and coil placement, it all gets hidden away
one note that i took away from these coils is that they vape way better with good wraps. the loosely wrapped ones i made first are good at clouds but low on flavor. this pair is much better in the flavor department...
Yeah they're definitely a flavourful vape, and lmao bit of out of sight out of mind doesn't hurt. Made myself a load of ribbon stacks last night and staggered alien wrapped them, only to figure out I didn't have any 24g decore left to finish them :/ so just been spinning out shit loads more decores in different sizes and I'll wrap them later. Actually looking at the alien ribbon I wouldn't mind trying just a full ribbon build inside one of the 24g decores I have, might even have a go at that tonight... Too many ideas, not enough hands haha

yeah thats a problem for me too. i did an eleven hour shift of hard work yesterday and it took all my strength to install those coils when i got home. my hands barely close today, and i have another shitty shift tomorrow. prolly will be out of commission till the weekend (in terms of building anything), but i want to keep trying this build until i know i 'got it', a ribbon version, and a couple other builds that are always in the back of my head wanting to come out.

yesterday was moving landscape material into position and doing some yard work. we estimate 50 flights of stairs each (two of us) carrying 80+ lbs bags of soil and mulch, lots of shoveling and all that fun stuff (that im getting too old for). can barely walk today, and my hands might as well be catchers mitts with regard to how functional they are for typing and eating and building wire

Wish we had got some snow here. We just got this mutant form of slushy sleet that compacts onto itself and the top layer melts just enough in sunlight to freeze overnight and turn everything into a skating rink. Still used the opportunity to call into work as payback for scheduling me a Clopen shift (Close the night before and open the next day) earlier this week. Although it was kinda awkward accidentally running into my boss while dropping my gf off at work right after I called and told him I couldn’t make it out of my apartment complex’s parking lot...didn’t know he lived around there, lol. But it all worked out since when I called and told him the lie he responded by saying he wasn’t able to make it out of his neighborhood either...so, we caught each other and all that was said between us was “See you tomorrow”

Well got 10 fused clapton done this evening. Can only do a long enough run for 2 coils at a time. Goes good at half speed but I always lag behind at full speed. Gets on my nerves cuz it takes 20 minutes to bust out a FC

Bit better of a go of the alien staggerton. 2*28g frames 10*.3x.1/36g all ss316l, wrapped on 5mm bit (as per lol) cool ohm reading .14. Obviously with this attempt getting mounted it's getting vaped think I under stretched the final wrap with this one and possibly over stretched the inside :/ we'll see how that affects performance. Sorry for so many photos, thought I'd give @mach1ne a look at both sides lol

wow nice work @KarmicRage . the middle wrap might seem over stretched from the tiny extra bit of width from the ten plies of ribbon. the one i tried had 8 and it felt 'normal'. that might not mean anything though, since i have never actually done the build properly myself lol how do they vape?

I tend to bring my wattage up in stages so I don't torch my cotton and I'm not at the max I'll hit yet but it's a nice warm, fairly dense vape as is now @mach1ne, I think the flavour's different this time being ribbon. Before I took out the all round wire version I've been vaping a strawberry n Banana custard and the banana was really pungent, now it's like I can taste the strawberry more and the banana is on the exhale.
Also I don't think the ribbon stack being 10 wide is the problem as 3 pieces of 28g is .963 wide if my maths is right. I think I'm overstretching the alien too much and that's leading the wraps on at more of an angle, so bigger spacing. I might be wrong, bit more practice and analysis of what I'm doing and I should crack it. Starting to run out of 36g after all the decores I span up so won't be trying anything else in that gauge till my next wire order lol

my thinking was that the wrap might behave differently going around a square side than it does on a round one. stretch is a big variable though too. i imagine if theres too much difference in any of the variables (stretch, decore:core ratio, cosmic forces we dont comprehend) between the two passes of alien wrap, they will be more and more incompatible too... a lot of things alter the depth of the waves of the wraps, when you need to fit one pass between another theres a lot of things that can go wrong.
I can do a wing span size due to pinching the wrap wire against the core wires, or because I don't use swivles, I hold the wrap wire between my pinky and ring finger while using my thumb to stabelize. Would it help if I show you in video? If so I'll try to upload my free hand technique.
I want you to be able to make consistent FC. Imo the fused Clapton is the most important coil. From there you will learn everything. Everything incorporates the Clapton, but more importantly fused Claptons take it to another level. Claptons and fused Claptons are the same thing when freehanding. I've never used swivels.
That advice screw ball gave me, along with the video of alien squid doode set me off in a while new direction. I am going to focus on Staples and framed Staples.

4x28/36 again, turned out nice, I let my eyes unfocus and kinda zoned out so I guess I'm getting better at the angles, that or I'm just really hungry

As long as I don’t go too long between making them, lol. But I’ve hit a wall with what I can build easily without breaking out a swivel setup. The extra stability of having the wire anchored at both the beginning and end is almost a necessity for getting into the more intricate builds like staggered and staples builds, along with stitched and interlock builds (the extra tension you have to apply bows the cores too easily freehand-style). I’m just gonna have to bite the bullet and break my swivel Station out and start perfecting that technique...spent too long trying to master Aliens that I’m afraid I’m going to fall into the one-trick pony category if I don’t start branching out again. I’ll still freehand these and other coils I do, but this old dog has gotta learn some new tricks.

Lol, yeah...that’s always been how I look at things, but at what point is a stockpile of coils for someone that doesn’t sell them too big? With these two I just mounted I’m down to, I think, 153 Alien Coils.
It’s about time to find someone that doesn’t build or hasn’t advanced enough in building to make their own yet to donate a bunch too again. I understand everyone has to make a buck, but some of the prices on these things are so high that not everyone gets to enjoy them...only fair to pass it forward and hook someone up, because if it wasn’t for the advice and encouragement I’ve gotten from around here I wouldn’t have figured them out in the first place.

Yep, I do..it was amazing and I couldn’t believe I had done it and then I was hooked and obviously haven’t been able to put it down since. I still get a great feeling of accomplishment when I build them. That’s how I end up with such a pile of them that’ll probably never get used.
