What swivel bit do you use? Is it the The spin?
Nah @the_swvl on IG I think they're $20? I bought some ceramic bearings on Amazon I didn't like the redz they came with.

If you want to upgrade to ceramic ones lmk I need to order more and they can be expensive. I'm down to split a pack with you.

Anyone know where I can find a build tutorial for the Alien Stag? Just dropped my gf off at the airport and I plan on taking advantage of having the place to myself and not having to be considerate of disturbing anyone with the drill for the next few days...figure that’s the best circumstances to try out new builds, but, I can’t seem to find a build tutorial on that particular build anywhere.

You're not drinking water are you?! You realize that stuff is found in antifreeze!?!
You can find the alien stagg video on YouTube if you search for n.devine dude. It's a long video like but it's the only one I know is uploaded. Raymo's video only stayed on Instagram for 24 hours when he did it which is unfortunate

So I've got a question I don't know the answer to. Buddy is strictly using SS aliens from another builder and asked me this question. After rewicking several times, once a week, he finds that his aliens start to have to be rewicked daily due to residue build up.

My thoughts are it has to do with physical changes that are happening in the metal from repeated heating and cooling...I may be very wrong I'm not a material scientist. If anyone has any other thoughts or has had a similar experience lmk.

Thanks in advance!

I know that stainless isn't supposed to be heated the same way Kanthal builds are (glowing hot), I don't know the full ins and outs but I've definitely seen that mentioned about stainless wire. Is he sure it's the juice creating the gunk and not the wire? Like I say I'm no expert but there was definitely something mentioned, pretty sure it was on this forum, about stainless not standing up to really high temperatures well that's why we don't glow them. Other than that I'm stumped

Thanks mate just looking at what’s out there for the minute also what peeps recommend

So is it a case with all of these it uses a similar bearing set to skateboards? Can you switch them out like that?

I’m not sure if it’s the same, but I had some very strange experiences with my SS aliens involving residue buildup and changes in the metal after a very short time as well. I never could find a reason for it and didn’t get much in the way of an answer from any forum posts, so, I just went back to my N80 rather than using SS316L. After a single day I was getting red discoloration with dark spots...

...would turn to this in a short amount of time

There was never a change in flavor or vape quality, but just the fact that I didn’t know what was going on with it after eliminating juice, cotton, atty, wattage, mod, and wire brand as culprits, I just fell back into using N80.

On the @the_swvl yes other brands I'm not sure.

Edit: I'm almost positive most are skateboard bearings. I just found the ceramics to be smoother and last me longer.

Yeah man those bearings are replaceable as long as there's a hole on the back side of the bearing holder. I know my one is replaceable like

I’ve noticed after repeated clean cycles there is a an eventual very slight rust layer that forms (why they go brown) on SS could be this as the surface becomes pitted and it makes it easier to clag up

Any particular brand of ceramic skateboard bearing sets to look out for? Also do you add grease?

Been a long time since skated but I'm sure bones bearings are ceramic. Otherwise you could look online at fasttech and the fidget spinner ceramic bearings they sell. Be a lot cheaper like

These are the ones I have currently...you can see why I want to split the price lol.

I don't use grease i prefer to use Tri-Flow amazing lube I found at my local hardware store.

I'll update this thread with my thoughts on them as soon as I get a set. They're only cheap so will probably order the end of the week and let you guys know

are his videos any good? the first time i saw that name, it was a 'related video' on the side-bar. i think it was for tsukas or something fancier that i was surprised to see a tutorial for, but then i noticed it was over two hours long, and decided to use those hours building rather than watching. i keep thinking i should go back and see if hes worth watching though. 2 hour build videos could be fucking awesome if the guy is getting lots of good info into them...

are there any other good builders on youtube? i have only really watched ohmboyoc, squiddoode, twistedmesses, mind_forge, and the ohmboy josh coil wars videos.

Sherlock Hohms puts out some pretty good videos. I started watching some of the n.devine stuff...his are so long, apparently, because they are live feed videos, so, he sometimes talks and answers folks chatting while building.

I really, really like Sherlock Hohms, I watched pretty much all of his tutorial videos while I was waiting for my first pack of wire!!! So relaxing watching him spin wire to that SoftStep electro music or whatever it's called lol, good explanations and tips too!

Reminds me, he has a video of making enigma wire...that's on my bucket list of things to try

They are long videos so I tend to put them on while I'm going asleep and visualising what he's talking about. I can't think off the top of my head of any other builders that are out there other than pristinebuilds but I'm pretty sure he doesn't do the exotic coils

as long as we all can do it in the end
giphy.gif

And now i fully remember how traumatized I was after seeing Carl Weather’s disembodied arm twitching on the ground next to him still shooting his gun in that movie...almost as bad as the murder scene at the beginning of the original Robocop. I’m gonna go curl up in the closet and rock back and forth repeating “It’s not real, it’s just a movie” now...thanks for that, lol.

Wouldn't have it any other way. The only thing that is not depleted or taken away when it is shared is ideas, remember that :)

Maybe not the “only” thing...there’s also love, knowledge, chlamydia, and all sorts of other things we all picked up from our third grade teachers...right?

Lmao not my 3rd year teacher nope haha. I'm with you on knowledge, I'd say ideas are a form of knowledge but yeah I should have said knowledge as it encompasses more. Not so with you on love though haha one thing I think can go in only one direction and is not experienced by everyone. That's probably the cynic in me coming out though haha and I'm fortunate enough to have never "shared" anything like the clap lmao

The joke works better with a list of three things rather than one or two, so, I had to stretch it a bit and use a little poetic license to get it to fit, lol.

so i vaped this half-dub build all day and its a great vape. i think i like it better than the staggs i have tried (though i have only tried a few different configs at this point). its way better than my badly spaced alien staggs, and at least as good as my nice set. im quite impressed. i feel like its because the ribbon stack is split in the middle. it lights up faster than a framed staple i made with the same amount of wire in it (2 x 28 and 8 x .3) and it has a bit of a wetness to it that something like a framed staple wouldnt have.

What did that beast ohm out to, anyway?
And you vaped it?...that thing belonged in an art gallery! It should’ve been framed!
(See what I did there? *Framed*...I’ll let myself out)

But I'll be looking here to steal all your ideas I mean learn more!
Do you use anything to keep your cores straight? Well from bcoming together or how ever it's called.

Yeah, I use a very small keyring, it's about 1cm wide. Got it off the spare keyring for my car. I slide it on and around until the wire is perfectly in the middle, and I keep it an inch or less in front of where I'm wrapping.
