Does vaping have to be so frustrating?

Usually, I will not reccomend an RDA to people that are just starting out because they're a bit more involved than your standard tank. Fortunately, there's enough material on Youtube for even a novice vaper to start building coils quickly, but most of the videos will not tell you that you *must* be careful not to build a coil that's too low of a resistance. They'll just have a disclaimer saying that the video is intended for "advanced" vapers. Battery venting is a very real danger. Here's what happens when a battery vents.

This situation is easily avoidable, however. I suggest you read up on Ohm's Law (if you don't know it already) and battery safety before switching to an RDA if that's the route you want to take. Use these links. They should help you get started.

And here's a good tutorial for building coils, in case you take this route:

Thanks for the advice I am concerned about safety for sure. I'm not sure I want to go that route. I just want something that works and it seems most folks end up there.
There's one more link that you'll want to visit, but I can't remember the name. It belongs to a guy that's considered to be an expert on lithium-ion batteries. I'm sure someone else will chime in with the link.

Here are some flavors I would recommend, if you can get hold of them. These are all premium e-juices I've tried personally. See if you can get these to come through on your tank.

Where's Weirdo (That one's like Nerds if you remember the small boxes of fruity candy we used to buy in the 80s and 90s if you were around during that time. It's pretty strong tho.)
Circus Cookie (Tastes like a vanilla cookie with strawberry icing like the ones you get at carnivals and the like.)
Super Punch (That tastes vaguely of Hawaiian Punch.)
Slotter Pop OGB (That one's dear to my heart. It's blue raspberry popsicle with side notes of orange and green apple.)
Rope's Rumble Crumble (I won't lie to you, this one's not for everybody. It's cinnamon funnel cake. It's not my personal favorite, but if you can get the cinnamon notes to come through, it's actually quite satisfying, especially if you're a big fan of cinnamon like I am. You'll sometimes find this inside "bargain bins" because it's not a big-seller, at least in my area.)

Thanks I'll look into those flavors. Some of those sound really good. I' a big fan of common myself. I would highly recommend Beard #32 to you. It' a cinommo funnel Cake as well. It' a pretty strong flavor and probaby a coil killer but very tasty .

I ordered some Circus Cookie last night. I found it for $12.00 figured I can't go wrong there.

you are not alone. Alot of stuff coming out nowadays seems to cater to the cloudz community. Meaning its all about blowing big clouds, O tricks, and looking cool. Its not as much about quitting smoking like it used to be.
With that said alot of the stuff you have is the most popular stuff on the market and it caters to that cloudz community IMHO.

I stopped using tanks with premade ocils years ago, but used them for years as well. I havent smoked in almost 8 years now.

In terms of juices....
OMG this is the biggest pain in the ass for us.
Making your own can be rewarding and is a million times cheaper. my juice costs me 2-7 cents a ml.
But you know how much time and money it took to get the flavors i wanted and were good enough to stop buying commercial juice??? About $100. And about 2 weeks of experimenting and researching.

I whole heartedly recommend making your own juice, but it is a process as well and can be equally as frustrating.
The trick is to find a single flavor profile you like
for me it was peach. SO that was easy enough to get started. try 5 or 6 different brands of peach flavoring, try the recommend percentages. try different percentages. try mixing them. Had about 12 bottles of stuff I didnt like and 1 that worked. Then I could build from there.

I would highly look into finding a store somewhere near you, that lets you taste test their flavors, and spend a bunch of time there oned ay trying everything you can as often as you can. try and find 3 flavors. Ask them if they can mix it with some extra flavor for you, many stores whole mix their own are willing to do this IME.

Now how to treat your coils to get more flavor and longer life.
Rule #1 dark juices destroy coils fast
so tobaccos, custards chocolate etc
the clearer the juice the more life you get out of a premade coil

rule 2
dont use multiple flavors on the same coil
this just gunks up the cotton.
because of how tight that cotton is usually packed in there you will never get rid of all of flavor 1 and it will always be effecting flavor 2

rule 3
you dont need fancy coils in your tank to get flavor
ALot of people use coils that work in the 30-60w range for flavor not 70-150w
Now Im not familiar with the arco but I see 3 coils for it
go with the T6 it is a dual parrallel coil and should work great in teh 40-60w range
for the crown 3 the .5 coils should work well also in that range
for the beast tanks go with a dual coil thats .4-.6 in range
Any coil that is 3+ coils is more clouds then flavor IMHO
Remember if it says parallel that means 2 coils
so a triple parallel is actually 6 coils

rule 4 more watts doesnt = more flavor
many of these coils sold today have ridiculous wattage ranges, both too high and too low.
with any coil (excpet MTL which is not what you are doing) you start low say 20 watts, then go up n 5 watt increments till you find something you dont like and go back
then you can play around in 1 watt increments to fine tune
30-60watts is the average range in my experience for many people who want flavor over clouds, but some people like it even lower or a bit higher

rule 5 prep the coil
these coils are not that great but we can do one thing to help. Before you do anything with it, take a needle or pin and poke a bunch of holes through the cotton. this lets juice flow better through it and to the coil
also never start a coil at high wattages >40ishW this can often burn the layer of cotton right next to the coil because it was not saturated enough and juice flow wasnt strong enough to keep that inner layer moist. SO start low for a few minutes and work up to your ideal wattage on a new coil
if any of the cotton gets even singed, you lose flavor or get bad flavor

rule 6
never let the tank go dry. This will lead to burning cotton and you are right back to bad flavor
always refill sooner then you think

rule 7
you are going to get bad coils from time to time
I could use a coil for weeks, then replace it and get one that lasted a few days...these are mass manufactured low QC products. You will get bad ones...hence Why it is cheaper to get an RDA or RTA and make your own coils. If you really want to try this route. Pick up something like a griffin 25 or griffin aio
goto a place like advancedvapesupplies.com
https://www.advancedvapesupply.com/...oil-26g-or-28g-30g-or-32g?variant=31964119937

grab the 10 pack of clapton coils in 28/36 ask for 3mm and 7 wraps
that will give you about .48 ohms in a dual coil build
all you have to do is install those on the deck, wick, and add juice
grab some cotton there as well or from your local vape shop, watch videos on the exact RTA you bought and you can get started that way
That combo in a griffin 25 or aio should give you great flavor in the 50 watt area
the coils can last you months, but you will rewick maybe ever day to every couple weeks depending on your use and juice

ok Im done babbling now hope this helps
Am I on to something here? I had a thought on coil break in. When it comes to starting at low wattage and slowly bumping up I wonder if I am starting to low. My thought was that if say the best range on a coil is 70-80 watts and I'm starting at 20w for 5-10 pulls and increasing by 5w at a time Maybe the juice is not fully burning so that its building up on the coils. Then when I finally get to the higher watt range all that built up juice is burning and wrecking the coil. I may be way over thinking things but it seemed like a logical theory at least.

Just wanted to get back to you I tried the Circus Cookie and unfortunately I can't really taste it. Such a bummer I too because I tasted some on my finger and it was great though pretty peppery aftertaste. The slotter pop sounds good though.

Hey @jworm49
wow lots going on here! Just a thought, I realised that I have very muted taste buds. Oh and a muted sense of smell. So I can relate!
I started searching out tanks that were made for flavour rather than clouds. I learnt to build coils quite early on as I was living in a country where stock coils were only available on the black market at black market prices.
My experience with the Smok baby beast tank and the Griffin tanks were that they aren't the best in terms of flavour, I'm not very clued up on flavour tanks with stock coils, although I keep hearing great things about the wake tank.
If you go down the route of a rebuildable tank, the good old serpent mini smm is both easy to build and good for flavour. I am personally enjoying the obs crius 2 as well, and it also fits that criteria. There are a lot of tanks on the market at the moment that would fit the bill.
You mention the vandy vape mesh rda, this is not one I'd recommend either as a flavour rda nor as a beginner rda. It's fiddly to get right, and it mutes a lot of flavours, it's the strangest atty I've encountered!
Good luck, it will we go take some trial and error but hang in there!

Thank you I will check out those tank you spoke of I am starting the process of figuring of which rda or rta would be best for me to start out on. I don't know much about the Vandy Vape mesh I just thought it looked like a cool idea.

Yeah, so did I, and I've been building for years, but this thing I found very tricky, and not the best for flavour.

If you do decide to start building your own coils, there are a lot of great single coil RTAs on the market right now, I think they are a great place to start. There are loads of YouTube videos that show you how to do it, and it's not as hard as it sounds.

The choice is overwhelming but don't let that put you off. As long as you find something that is good enough for YOU then it doesn't have to be the Best Thing Ever, according to YouTube. Plus people have vastly different opinions. For example, I know that anything VapingWithTwisted420 on YouTube says, I usually have the complete opposite opinion. Still enjoy the videos, I just don't base decisions on his opinions.

Yeah There are sooooo many options out there. It is really hard to know where to start. with so many choices I assume so of the tanks ect. are not so good. As far as single/dual coil I don't know enough to have a preference yet though I would think single would be more simple. Come to think of it I saw the Vandy Vape on Rip Trippers channel. He seems cool but he also seems to like everything he reviews. He loved the crown three and the Arco 2 so I bought one of each. I'm putting a lot of the blame on the juice but still I haven't been super impressed with them yet. My GF is getting me a Fireluke Mesh for valentine's day so we'll see I'm still going to want a few good tanks even after I find a good rta/rda. I think an rta would be better as long as I'm not compromising to much on flavor going that route.
