Help New Coil Leaks Every Time

Help a Noob please... I have the X-Priv with the TFV12 tank and Q4 coils.

Every time i replace the coil i break down the tank, clean it, dry it with paper towels, let it air dry a couple hours, dry it again with paper towels and always pay attention to my seals while reassembling the unit.

Before installing the coil i follow the instructions given to me from the shop i purchased at. I drip liquid into the holes and directly on the inside top of the cotton.

BUT...

Every coil i put in leaks sometimes a lot sometimes a little. During the 20 mins or so I'm letting the coil soak up the liquid it leaks out through the bottom of the coil into the air intake. But then the fix is just to wipe it all down and the leaking stops?! Nothing is loose.

My though is that it's the excess liquid coming from the center of the coil. Should i not be dripping it into the coil before installing it? Maybe I'm dripping in too much? This is all i can think of other then the possibility that all my coils have been defective but that's highly doubtful as i go on to use them with no further issues.

I'm not familiar with that coil, in the past I just put a few drops on the sides of the coil, let it sit for a few minutes in the tank with juice filled, close the airflow, take a few dry hits without hitting the fire button, vape.

Makes sense, I'll try that on the next coil change to see if there's a difference.

I posted this in another thread. I recently got an X-priv kit. The pre-installed coil has rigid wire that creates a void and prevents the bottom piece from sitting flush.

The wire is pretty stiff. But I know this will leak if I don't try to bend or move it.

Wow, this STILL isn't fixed with the TFV12? As far as I know, this problem has existed since the TFV8 at the very least, and possibly the 4 as well! I'm not exactly sure on that one.

Something needs to be done about Smok's horrible QA department. A bit of housecleaning might be called for. I know jobs are hard to come by, but when the same problem exists for possibly years at a time, something HAS to be done otherwise people get sick of it and will just stop buying. It's a tiny gap, but apparently enough to cause problems.

Oh wow i hadn't noticed that in the last few coils i installed. I try to check them over before i put them in. I just picked up a new batch this past weekend i'll have to take a look. Thank you

We are talking about the new (tfv12) Prince tanks. I haven't had a problem like this on any of Smoks previous tanks. I've used them all (pretty much) except the TFV12 Cloud Beast King. I know there are tons of unsatisfied customers tho. Either I am VERY lucky, or I just know how to use them. This new situation with the Prince coil I got, warrants displeasure. I got it for free so I can't complain too much :D.

I noticed it looking through the airflow. It was pre-installed sitting in there tilted at the bottom of the coil. I don't know the correct term, for the removable metal connector piece, on the bottom of factory coils. Thats what looked off in there.

Two additional TFV12 tanks are leaking now. But they only leak the very first time they're filled. I'm at a complete loss here. Three tanks all brand new Q4 coils, the seals on the coil look solid, everything is screwed tightly together, i did some drags without power to pull it in like suggested above, let them sit for 20 minutes. And when i came back all three coils and tanks leaked.. cleaned them all up, took a few hits, and now no leaking... it's almost as if i have just have to accept that this the way it is

I was going to break in my new one, (with the Q4) in pretty soon. I'll have to keep an eye on it and not fill it too far up.

I've had tanks/coils do that to me too. The first fill leaked and then it was fine. It's kind of a pain in the ass when a mess occurs.

I've used the 8 before and most people who have talked to me for a while know the experiences I've had with that tank. I'm sure it's a wonderful tank - I'm just an idiot when it comes to building on a Velocity style deck. I wanted it to work so badly, I just ran out of patience. My Obese Buddha and Mason 24mm are so much easier to set up that I would wager they're pretty much idiot-proof (well, barring the usual stupid mistakes of course!)

I've been vaping sub ohm for about a year now and I rarely have leaking problems. All tanks will occasionally weep a little, but shouldn't leak. If this is a problem you are having consistently, maybe you are not tightening your coils enough. I don't crank down when I put my tank on my mod. Been there/ done that, but I do crank down pretty good when I'm screwing the coils into my tank. I use an ohm meter and find that if I don't really tighten it down, the ohms are off, but I can assure you that if you're not putting the coils in tightly and screwing them all the way down (or cross threading), that will cause a leaking problem.

One other thing - I never prime my coils. It may be unconventional, but I fill the tank and give it about 1/2 hour to soak into the coil, and then I vape it. I never have a burned hit or coil from doing that, and my tanks don't leak. Good luck.

Well I adjusted the wires in my picture and checked everything before trying mine. Its the Q4 coil I'm using. By golly my first fill leaked. I only filled it up past the little notches in the coil. I took it apart and tried it again. It hasn't leaked since. Besides that leak, I'm really liking this tank. It's a little airy wide open (w/Q4 coil), but its working awesome. I'm getting really great flavor.

I have the SMOK brother tank and a Q4 coil.. It does nothing but leak and flood the coil even with high VG juice.

Yes it is. Maybe it's just the seals on that one, but the coil would flood and when I went to take a vape i'd get a mouthful of juice and flowing down from the airholes...
I didn't like the Q4 in the X-Baby. I found the draw to restricting. I got some T-6 coils (Which have three cylinders), and preferred them much better. The draw is still a little tight but much better vapor.

Sorry you had trouble with your tank. I've never had any real problems with it.

It happens. All I use now are RDA's for better flavour
