Been trying to make my first corrugated. Ugh. I’m having a lot of trouble getting everything to stay stacked. Any tips?
Starting to think I should do my first ssfc first but I got this paper crimper and I’d love to stagger AND corrugate.. but between this and those Mohawks I think I need to do another fralien so I can have a success hehe.

i tend to put my loop end of the stack into the drill clamp and then only attach my frames to the swivels. the stuff between the frames is usually tied to the frames right at the end (with an inch or two of extra frame to put on the swivel) and then loosely held together with a paper clip or two spaced down the length. as long as the part you are working in is flat it will all come out good. thats a tough way to try to pick up corrugated and stagger fused techniques at the same time

Was hand wrapping it trying to get it ready for the drill. Now that I’m looking at the picture, maybe too much tension on the wrap collapsed the corrugated ribbon. Maybe I’ll start with 3 ply middle stacks.

Edit: thanks @mach1ne

Thanks a lot I’m going to try that tomorrow. Running low on ribbon already, that stuff goes faster than anything for me hah. Really appreciate the tips, you do great work!

i forgot to mention the drawstring clamp. i have tried hair clips and other stuff for holding together spaced clapton wrapped stuff for staggered/fused build (where a ribbon slider can wreck your spacing), but i find the drawstring clamp (from hoodie or jacket strings) is the best to keep your immediate work area nice and flat.

didn't survive wrapping :/
Really cool! I've done a regular mowhawk alien but I've never tried stitched mowhawk aliens. Looks like you got a great piece of wire there. You can generally untwist them while you wrap them. Sometimes it helps to untwist them a little with your drill and a pair of pliers first and then do the last bit manually.

I find corrugated builds very difficult to wrap. I would go with the SSFC and if you have success with that go onto what your showing in your photo. My tip to stacking is hot glue. It's a tip that was reinforced by @mach1ne for me. Anything that involves a ribbon stack of any kind I use hot glue to prep. Prep is key when doing these complex builds and I really feel you gotta use hot glue to have the best prep possible. I mean you can tape some builds. But if you have corrugated wire and a whole bunch of stuff going on in your core wire, tape alone isn't going to hold all that stuff in place during the wrapping process. If you can get a good SSFC without any mistakes, you can probably get a decent corrugated build. I'd take one step at a time, but that's just my advice, for whatever it is worth. Looks like your onto something very creative and I think it will come out great in the end. Can't wait to see!

Decided to go back to converting my 6-wrap aliens into 5-wraps when using my RR2...
Started out like this
fafdbcc7d811c6a6bcfca0eb137c7134.jpg

Pulled a half wrap out of each side of the coil
9d5c1c2bfabcd1ee77ef153916ccdaca.jpg

Dog-legged one of the legs on each coil to make sure each leg would make it to the post on this velocity styled deck
db2f3fb70f7665c2fe778f36145b9660.jpg

Then mounted them up and arranged them as best I could with this low-pro deck
65f8df28c255aa180f5d293e17cf3291.jpg

Couldn’t get much in the way of getting really good color considering I’m sitting parked in a car, lol.
Now it’s all wicked and juiced up with some @Mykreign ‘s Slap Yo Mama Banana Cream Pie that’s been steeping for many weeks...damn its good!

Really nice aliens. Before I discovered the fralien, a long time ago, my go to build was something very similar to what you've posted. Not that the fralien is superior or anything, it just depends what you like. I always liked my 28g cores and 36g alien binding, all N80. That was just me. Now if I'm gonna do a round wire core alien, I'll do a single core with 5 or 6 28g cores and 36g binding off a 22g decore. It's literally the only thing I use 22g wire for, just to get that specific decore for that specific build. Your aliens look very clean. That's excellent work brother.

how do you like the vape from those? i never like the vape compared to clean aliens, so i have never made another set (interlock as well) after my first successful couple. its a beauty. i cant wait to see pics :

haha yeah i remember getting my first like from ray and chef on the same pic (cant even remember what it was). i actually showed my room mate (who didnt vape at the time and gave absolute zero fucks/still teases me at times about it). i still get excited when i see a like from either of them lol

I haven’t vaped a stiched in a long time. I had an order to fill and the guy wanted them so I figured I’d brush up on my skill and make one before I made them for him lol. I didn’t coil her yet, waiting for the Venus RDA to get here later today, I’ll trying them in there and let you know. I’ve also never made interlocking aliens.... to be honest... I’ve never parafused anything. That’s actually the reason I didn’t make staggered builds at first, I refused to waste all that wire lol... granted this was before any tricks were around to do the spacing for ya (I feel like I been building forever lol)... Ever since then I just didn’t have an interest in parafusing. I do have to give it a try though because I have a staggered build pictured in my head and having dual fusing looks so much better lol

I remember way back when before raymo was a staple name in building and chef didn’t have purecoils yet... ahhh those were the days.... I couldn’t build for shit back then.. lol

I hate parafusing myself. I'm terrible at it. I usually use the loop method for staggered builds. I did one dual pair on interlocking aliens in my life and they came out well, but it literally took me over 20 attempts to parafuse enough wire to get the build done. I had wasted sooo much wire by the time it was all finished. I swore I'd never attempt that build again and I haven't since. To me it vaped just like a regular alien, maybe not even quite as well. Not a build for me.

A lot of these builds are like that - primarily photo op coils. As far as coils that are fun to look at AND give a good vape, I would have to say my 5 favorites are aliens, fraliens, gatortails, caterpillar tracks, and staggered framed staples. I tried the corrugated before, and the vape was (unfortunately) quite far from impressive. Polished coils, while pretty impressive looking, do absolutely nothing for me.

If you guys use cotton bacon v2 there’s a site that’s selling it for $1.90 a bag... I never used this site before until now so I can’t vouch for it but it seems legit.... here’s the link if anyone wants to grab some.... I grabbed 8 bags of it

Most of my fraliens (the ones I vape, not sell) consist of 28g... I used to use 26 a lot more then 28 but now I prefer smaller frames and more ribbon. If I went back to 26 I’d have to cut down on the ribbon!

Sunday night I think I'm going to rig up a phone camera holder and see if I can try focus stacking in PS with it

A boom microphone stand with a clip, rubber bands to hold the loupe over the lense...gonna be redneck and nerdy all in one

27g Ni80 is what I prefer. It brings the best from both worlds. :D

P.S., for regular aliens at 4.5 wraps 2.5mm ID, that is.

I gotta grab some odd gauges in n80 and SS... I’ve been vaping a shit load of SS316L lately because of the DNA250c.... that replay mode is amazing.

Where do you get your odd gauges? I usually go to coil Society for the majority of my wire....

For my own personal Vapes i use
6(.3x.1) N80 or SS316L
2(28) N80 or SS316L
36 SS316L Alien Wrap

Sometimes I’ll switch it up and make a much bigger fralien with 9-12 ribbon but I use Kanthal for that to help with the resistance. But if it’s for my personal vape, I’ll never really have less then 4-6 ribbon in any of my builds.

So, i made a new spring that’s working awesome for my Revolver Reloaded 2, cleaned it up really good and polished it up with some Brasso and now have hit a wall of whether I’d like to do like I did last time and alter a set of the 6-wrap aliens I have a plethora of by dog-legging a lead pulling a wrap out, creating a 5-wrap contact alien coil
cb3914ba6c0c848567bfdb354aa7f170.jpg

Or do like I have in the past and pull out a wrap and make a spaced alien coil
72d376ae6ddf7f339940e186d29cb0e4.jpg

No right or wrong answers here as it’s purely preference for the most part, but was just curious on folks thoughts on either why they would or wouldn’t use one of these types of coils over the other and rather than make a thread and end up searching for a needle in a haystack, I’d ask here and throw a bunch of magnets in the haystack and see what comes out

And last but not least lets give it up to @AnthonyLouis for being the king of the fralien, the coil that vapes best on mech mods IMO. I've seen them, I've tried them and he's got it down!

I will cosign on this statement as well. I got a couple of these fancy fraliens from @AnthonyLouis and they are super, super smooth.

Mine is by a brand called Wireworks. It is amazing wire, and the spooling techniques are perfect... it is from Belgium where I live, but there's free shipping to the U.S., U.K., Germany, and France on orders from 75 Euros on up.
https://www.vapuri.be/rba/937-wireworks-nichrome-80.html#/gauge-27g_250ft

The raymo clamps are inside the airplane above the pond right now. So I had to make do with the magic that's in this wire to complete my build.
