So the 'new' SXK DNA60 Dober BB kit and 'used' Bastard Coil arrived today.

I really like the Dober color now, in person it looks nicer than the photos, it is darker than expected which I like.

After cleaning the Bastard Coil, I installed one of the 0.2 Ohm notch coils that the seller included, and it was actually very easy and only tools needed was a 4mm mandrel (to hold the coil and wrap the cotton around, since this is a vertical coil) and wire snips to cut the excess leads...

The Bastard Coil came with 3 different positive pins, one is similar to the Triton coils with 4x 3mm holes, another is similar to the Nautilus coils with the squared and nearly wide open air slots, and the other has a rotatable afc ring (which I removed) and 4x 2mm air holes, and this last one is the one I used.

I have the Bastard installed in a standard boro and it comes to 0.3 Ohms installed and even as low as 22w, I am getting a very nice, dense, super flavorful vape, however this coil and RBA burns thru juice much faster than any of the other attys for the BB that I tried....

@PoppaVic I may try to install one of the Notch coils in the Triton RTA, since that is a VERY similar set up...

More later...but YIPPEE!!!

Once I test the Dober unit for a few days, I am going to clean it all up and put it back in the box, since this will be my backup BB and I want to keep it fresh and clean in case of emergency.

BTW, I used the tutorial from Geekay on how to set up the Bastard Coil:

Quick update on Troys DryPlug; (MTL version)

I’m comparing this to the Tweakings adjustable airflow dry plug for reference which I use at its smallest air hole setting.

Troys DryPlug has a far better fit, very snug, almost snaps into place when used with authentic BB boro tank.

The Tweakings version has a looser fit, which in turn, sort of makes the different airflow options a moot point since you are getting air from all the exposed areas.

Friend of mine has the Tweakings single channel airflow, I believe its a MTL version as well. Basically, its a thin groove cut into the top. Does the job, works fine.

Troys DryPlug has a pinhole through the center, which IMO, for MTL, is a much better design since you have less tolerance with gaps.

Bottom line, great job @troydestroy I would recommend to any BB owner, definite must have accessory if you haven't got one already :)

I have to agree that Troy's fit better... my tweakings on my A-Tank doesn't fit snug...even after adjusting the bridge... there was a big stink with the guy who is vested with Tweakings when this was brought up on FB...His response more times than not was to follow the directions with the plug lol

Lol, I dunno what directions anyone could possibly follow other than place the plug on the bottom of the tank. haha
Tweakings plug isnt "bad" per se, kudos if they are the ones to have innovated the design, which I will support, but too bad for them if being pissy is their response to constructive criticisms.

A quick caveat, if you're getting the MF bridge with the MTL kit, the EUC ceramic 1.4 ohms coils do not fit...don't ask:headbang: I just ordered a couple packs of 1.3 ohm coils, the ones used in the video. I'll be back to let y'all know how they fit.

I run 50/50 and very restricted DL, fairly short pulls. No dry hits.....yet!

That's more than likely the reason I can't run that much cotton... I run 70/30 and do semi long pulls.

Really didn't want to mix up a separate batch just for the BB at a thinner viscosity...but I might just do that.

There's an addition MTL attachment that comes serperately in the "full kit."

Did you just get the basic Mf Bridge?

A quick pictorial of coil and wick on the Insider, no leaks! Not very difficult, give it a try. I had to coil up the insider since the EUC coils were the wrong F#$@ ones!
I use way less cotton when I wick the Insider, like cutting it even with the posts.

If you get dry hits, it is because of too much cotton out the sides of the coil, but that is also based upon your wattage and the viscosity of your juice.

I am using my DIY 90VG juice and barely any cotton and with a 1.1 Ohm 3mm ID coil, did not see dry hits until I went up to 40w, but I never vape that high on high resistance and had zero issues with ~20w, and I also tend to prefer a cooler vape than most people. At 40w, I though my lips and tip of my tongue would burn off...

When wicking the Insider, consider that there are very tiny juice channels running up the sides and the viscosity of your juice flowing thru them to your cotton.

My way LOOKS like not enough cotton, but I tested wicking starting looking like yours in the photo, and kept using less and less until I started getting flooding, and then rewicked with just a hair more, and that was about even with the posts, and NOT down into the juice channels.

You may have to fiddle with it, but you will find your own sweet spot, just like I did. :)

I never had dry hits with the Insider....runs to knock wood, returns....I wick even with the deck, make sure there is no cotton in the juice channels when I put the "cap" back on. 1.39 ohms, 2.5 mm ID 32/40 clapton at 18.0w, extra long pulls, no dry hits. I haven't tried chain vaping on it, I have a feeling that would "reward" me with a dry hit sooner or later.

Wow! Great review! It took a couple iterations to get to this design but I had a feeling you MTL junkies would like this one

Do you have any dtl version left? I think I saw on FB they were 16 + international shipping?

Seems like about 2 weeks after ordering, everyone started saying that I need a plug

A plug is definitely a very good idea and Troy's are very well made but you can vape your BB "unplugged" while waiting....provided you put that bit of tissue behind the tank or you'll catch hell trying to remove the tank later.

Yeah, I had to put something in the red BB I just got! I ordered a pack of SSOCC 1.5 ohms coils and two packs of EUC 1.3 ohm coils, the A tank isn't here but the Vaporesso cCell (0.9 ohm) are here!
Pretty soon I'll have a bunch of coils, bridges and tanks and not enough BBs....

That is exactly how I feel about RSAs, have more of them than mods... Also have more bridges than BBs also...but I am ok with that...probably order a few bridges this weekend if dhgate doesn't answer me soon.

The Nautilus from Greece just made it to Athens today! It'll be a week or so before I get it!

that's right, you got yours with the fancy bridges....I'm waiting for our francophile friend to say yay or nay on a sxk deal, I think I'll order one of them too and call it a day for BBs.

I'm waiting for one of you guys to pull the trigger on the USB-BBs before I do lol

Not 100% on the VS though...Boro is only 4ml with it absolutely filled, and more like 3.5-3.75ml if you leave a little out for equalization.

My A-Tank with cCell is 4.25ml absolutely stuffed and would be about 3.75-4ml with the air gap.

Thinking the smaller BVC/Nat coils might prove more of buy than the VS/Doggy...I need to measure capacity with the Insider...

Then again I am splitting hairs on 0.5ml lol

Ah eff it, I'll probably grab the VS.

The drip tip keys should arrive tomorrow for ya... I sent ya both.

Okay, I've owned the SXK versions of the VS, Exo, and Insider. Figured I should lay it down for you guys. Here's how I rank them from best to worst, IMO. Keep in mind all three are good choices.

Ease of Build
VS, Insider, Exo (can be hard to trap round wire leads on the SXK)

Wicking
Exo, VS, Insider

Amount of Airflow
VS, Exo, Insider
(FYI: Exo is a kickass MTL with the Kayfun 5 MTL inserts. Using it now.)

Flavor
Three way tie. All awesome.

I recommend the Exocet overall. The build may be a bit of a PITA, but wicking is really crucial in the BB so it gets the edge for me.

VS is a close second but it wants to give me dry hits when liquid level gets below the top of the shell.

Insider is a PITA to wick right and that makes it a no go for me since you have to put it in the Boro to test said wicking. Build, wick, insert, fill, drain, remove, rewick, repeat. No thank you.

Hope this helps but keep in mind it's just my experience. YMMV!

EDIT: Clarified my comment on the Insider.

Thanks! That solves it then for me... I'll grab the coil bridges ;)

I can screw my Insider into my VT133 and dry fire... does the SXK not have threads?

Thank you for the ranking. Do you mean you need to put the Insider in the tank to check for leaks? I don't understand , otherwise it threads in a 510 to check the coil.

Yeah to see if your wicking is working or not. Leaking or dry hits.
