Properly wicking Rayon

Here's a YouTube vid on how to wick with rayon properly. Most people I see on YouTube will wick it like cotton which means it's not performing to it's full capability and will probably taste like rayon.

I've noticed from personal experience as long as you follow this video and don't wick it too thick it will stop tasting at all rayoney after a very short period of time if at all. If you wick it too thick it the rayon in the coil will be dry and it will keep tasting like rayon no matter what. Even if you CAN saturate it enough that it stops the flavor will still be muted compared to when it's the proper thickness.

Also you can have very little/thin rayon on the bottom and it will still wick it adequately as long as it's not too thick in the coil itself. Just thought I would share this as it seems like a secret or something Haha.

It's like 6 bucks for 40 feet on Amazon! It also tastes only like the juice unlike cotton and lastes way longer. Can withstand accidental dry hits much better too.

I've been using that same 40ft roll myself for a couple of weeks.
I wicked my Rabbit with it and I can not tell the difference in taste.
I can say that I get a lot less popping when firing it. And looking at it now, I still don't need to change it after 120ml's

I've been using Rayon in my Profile RDAs for two weeks now. I've been doing it the same as in the video (I learned it from somewhere else though) and it works great.

Thanks for the link! Yeah that's a lot of info. I'll check it out watch those videos. See if I can't learn some new stuff and tricks. Yeah it's an awesome wicking material. Just so cheap and clean tasting while lasting significantly longer than cotton.

Nice. How's the profile? I have one on the way from China. I figured why not after seeing RipTrippers video review. Seems like it has stellar flavor. I want to get some ribbon wire and try flat parallel coils in it too! They would clip in so nicely.

I read somewhere you can use a pasta maker to flatten round wire but I haven't been able to find anyone else who does that. I'll probably try it for kicks.

You just need to read page 1.

Flavor on the profile is amazing.

Nice! Look at this video I found. You CAN make ribbon wire with a pasta roller! So much cheaper than ribbon wire. Can't wait to try some ribbon wire spaced parallel builds on that profile. Should actually be easier in most RDAs actually and increase surface area/flavor. Especially would be helpful on stuff like the Hadaly that's frustrating building parallel coils in because of the clamping system.

I think the flavor is great. I've been using both of them non-stop for over a week. I haven't put anything but the mesh in though.

I just received rayon cellucotton from a friend. Is this suitable for wicking? I have never worked with rayon but I have heard good things about it. I am considering trying it after I run out of cotton bacon.

Hell yeah, great wicking, I wouldn't use anything but Rayon.....lasts a long time in an atty or rda too.

Yeah that's the rayon that I get. I'm really digging this Drago cotton ATM though. It's like all of the advantages of rayon (well.. probably not as long lasting but I'll report back how long it takes before I need to rewick) and cotton. Read this post of my review if you're interested. Best cotton I've used by far. Zero break in time or initial cotton flavor!

Works great in my Profile RDA. It has better flavor than the cotton that came with it.

I've used rayon since the first time I tried it, when I snagged some from a PIF box I participated in. For me, there's no break in time, just a great vape from the get go. Got more from a trade deal with another member sometime last year, maybe the year before and still have that. I have a box that I purchased that I haven't needed to open, just yet. This stuff lasts forever!

Boxes of 500 ft can be purchased from Sally's Beauty Supply for like $12 or $13.

I've been using rayon for several years and its the best wicking material if the atty is wicked right.
- ZERO breakin taste. The taste is usually cause not tight enough in the coil. If there is taste then its wicked wrong.
- Like some say it shrinks...wrong, it settles once being juiced so again has to be tight in the coil.
- IMO...pulling the rayon through the coil with it having to be so tight what your doing is thinning out the middle leaving the end tight and less material inside the coil. Twist the rayon tight then screw it through the coil using the wraps as direction then reverse the twist a bit to straighten the fibers.
- Thinning out the massive bulky tails, not cutting but running something pointy through removing bulk and fluff. Too much of bulky tail will choke the build so less is better with rayon. Only cutting is for the length and I cut the thinning fluff rather than pulling it not to remove fibers from in the coil. Don't confuse trimming and thinning...they are 2 different things.
- Yes... opposite properties than cotton, juice flows inside the cotton fiber thus expansion and fiber after fiber plug up so no juice flow till no fibers left then dryhitting. Rayon flows outside the fiber thus why it settles and has to be wicked super tight. No fibers to plug up so your coil cocoons with carbon YUK and poops out long before rayon does...rinse the rayon after toasted build and its barely browned looking like it can be reused.
Cotton builds last only a few days. Rayon builds last until your coil cocoons and burns...for me using DIY tobaccos and non sweetenered juices easy 2+ weeks.
My only con with rayon is OMFG burning hit taste will be etched into your mind for the rest of your life...you will only burn rayon once.

Won't let me edit my post.... but if your buying any size box of rayon put portions onto ziplock bags. That 500 foot box will last eons so dust and cooties will get in contaminating the rayon.

Veterans trick...keep your fingers crossed while handling and it keeps the cooties away.

There's a learning curve, for sure. I've found that this is probably the most crucial aspect. But in my Profile RDA there's a very thin line where if I remove to much I start getting crazy popping. Too much the flavor gets muted. If I hit the sweet zone, it's just perfection.

You would most defiantly thin tails too how you vape..over thinned vaping at high wattage one would create waves of juice hitting the coil just boiling from not enough fibers moving juice. You need less tail bulk for a single wire build vs multiwire builds...high or low wattage vaping. Anybody can hit that sweetspot but then after consistently nailing that sweetspot is the "art" of wicking.
I tootle puff 29/34 1.4ohm clapton now so I have a barn sized sweet spot with thinning tails but ya when I enjoyed nasty multiwire subohm vaping its a mighty thin line to efficiently supply juice to a ultra thirsty build.
