Evening Rich....got sidetracked with things....how was your day?
Obviously I went away before you posted this. Sorry I missed you.

The day: not fun. I ripped my right bicep while whacking the calf with a crop and now it is hard to do anything, even here at the computer. I get the right arm in position to operate the mouse, then when it is time to type something, I have to lift the right arm with my left hand and place it at the keyboard to type, then lift it back over to the mouse. I never did learn to mouse with the left hand. ;) I don't know how long it will take me to repair this new pain, but one way or another, I will get things done (even over Lannie's objections - it is my stubborn "I can do it my own damn self" streak). Sigh...

Oh well... life's a beach and surf's up (er, summat like dat) :)
Just tried using the mouse with the left hand, it's not hard, or I'm ambidextrous and didn't know it.
If it is nothing more than point and click, I can do that too, but my primary use of said mouse is artsy, like detailed photo area selections and drawing. That's the part where lefty doesn't work well for me.

Old is more of an attitude here than a calendar age, although most of us are 50s and 60s (I might be the ancient one - I'll be 70 in two months).
I don't do computer games and never cared for those rolly ball mouses. I'd actually prefer something like an art pen and a tablet but can't afford that. When my arm is working, I can do some pretty good drawings with a standard LED mouse.

If it was 29 and snowing, I'd be whacking something with a crop too.
Well, the little shit wouldn't go back in her stall. Lannie was pulling on her lead rope and the calf was dancing, so I gave her a couple hard whacks and apparently my arm decided it was too hard. I doubt the calf even noticed.

Interestingly enough, I was doing some random acupressure on myself and discovered if I pressed hard on the Ulnar nerve in the forearm, the pain in the biceps decreased a great deal. I am not sure now whether the injury I gave myself was ripped muscle or nerve damage.

Welcome, Phil. I had some friends In Oz, then they moved to Tasmania (and took their cows with them). :)
I'd love to visit New Zealand one of these days... fell in love with the geography after watching Lord of the Rings a zillion times. I am not native to South Dakota (been here 14.5 years). Came from the Cascade Mountains of Oregon (pointy objects with snow-capped peaks). :D Sioux Falls is the east side of this state. I am in the northwest (about 60 miles north of Rapid City or 105 miles by road).

We are a tad bit more subdued because we want to be. If you read the first post on page 1, that might tell you why.

nice pics but im buggered if i would do that in your 29 degrees .. our 29 maybe .. but definitely not yours
love the bobbie
Oh yeah, we still use Fahrenheit and you guys are Celsius. Let's see, my 29 is your -1 and your 29 is my 84 (approximations). The Bobcat gets a good work out --- when I can get the POS started.

Well, folks, the witching hour is upon us (midnight here in the Mountain Time zone) so I'm gonna find my bed and crawl into it. Talk at y'all tomorrow.

your roads sound like ours
very tiring to drive .. narrow winding ones

but from what my sd guest was saying it was straight for miles there .. but as you said thats east and presumably the plains stop and the black hills and mountains start somewhere

oregon always seemed a really nice place to me ... minor problem with anything under 15c precludes though

its not all lotr scenery .. but there is a fair bit of it
the bubbling stuff can be worth the visit

Actually, Phil, I would welcome some winding roads. You can go 40 miles here without even jiggling the steering wheel. The difference in mileage between the "as the bird flies" versus the highway is that nothing goes from here to there without going through half a dozen other towns first, making the trip a large U-shape on the map.

The Black Hills start about 75 miles SW of me (via highway), but they are just a lump in the corner of this state. Real mountains (e.g., The Rockies) start in western Wyoming, about 300 miles from here. Other than that lump of Black Hills, this entire state is low rolling hills (west) or flat as a pancake (east of the Missouri River).

ahh ok

i just looked on a topo map of sd to see what was really where ..
i did a fair bit of driving in aussie so i have done the miles and miles without a corner thing ( its really extreme there .. you can take a pic drive 1000 ks in a straight line and take basically the same pic ( not corn or farmland .. wild stuff .. or in their case some sort of dessert )
isnt as tiring as here physically but mentally it made me want to go to sleep

she ( my sd guest ) could not get over the difference 20 miles makes to the scenery here
like a different country type difference

I understand that. I have driven through 30 of our states, some provinces of Mexico and Canada, and a few countries in Europe. I am amazed at how quick the landscape can change in just about all of them. Even here on the Great Plains, while it might be pretty flat and roads go straight for way too many miles (or kilometers to you), there are subtle differences. My preference is for the mountain states because of the greater diversity of terrain over shorter distances.

yup agree
anything to break the monotony

they have a sign ( or used to ) on the nullabor plains highway in aussie
" warning 10ks to corner "

i thought oregon was that sort of place and wondered why you would move to sd

i love those really old villages around uk and europe

from amusing planet

the highway was laid down as a straight road that runs for 1,675 km from Port Augusta in the east to Norseman in the west, and includes what is said to be the longest straight stretch of road in the world Australia: 145.6 kilometres, between the small roadhouse communities of Balladonia and Caiguna (the longest straight road in the world is Highway 10 in Saudi Arabia, which is 162 miles long).

I was born and raised in Orygun and, of all the geographical conditions I have lived in, I love Orygun best. But we moved because of politics (that discussion stops here).

Me too. I lived in England for 3.5 years (1968-71) and spent many of my days off riding around England, Scotland, and Wales, touring/photographing old villages, castles, even castle ruins. I was a real nut case about documenting my travels and historical sites.

SSDD Dale. Currently 28 degrees and snowing. Sorry this took so long, but the forum was non-responsive.
Another shitty day I see.....:(

Was decent here again....Anyway, I dug up about a half bushel of sweet potatoes, took half to my mother's house....damn tasty right out of the ground into the oven.

Like I mentioned in the past, never grew um before. After moving some vines around, I could see the damn things sticking out of the ground, couldn't believe it.

Need to buy a fork, I ruined a lot of them by cutting um in half with a shovel. But I washed um and put the cut ones in the refrigerator, will make something with those tomorrow.

Yummmmm... I think I'd like a few sweet taters right now. Nothing in our garden right now but white stuff on the weeds...

How much snow did you get?.....or is it yet to be determined, cuz it's still snowing?

Still snowing, but I don't think there will be much. Next five days supposed to be OK, then Dec 1 & 2, it's supposed to dump on us (several inches).
