Why use a mech mod?

In the day&age when you can get a regulated mod that also plays your favorite album, you'd be crazy to ever use a mech mod. Can that mech mod play Justin Bieber? I think not!

The MOD isn't playing the tunes, it is a Bluetooth device connected to a Media Player

Oh yeah. Looking forward to the weekend to do some tear down/polish/cleaning, it’s amazing the difference it can make.

It’s like cars, some people just want a modern car with all the bells and whistles they put gas in and go, and some like a beautifuly simple raw machine they tinker with in the garage on the weekends.

Mechs are just a better vape all around if you know what you are doing. They are simple, they are dependable and a person can dial one in to be exactly what they want. I use mostly RTA's on mechs and enjoy the fact that with some attention to details and notes, that I can repeat a really enjoyable setup over and over again. The difference between a regulated mod and a mech is likened to making love (mech) and just stabbing blindly into the dark like a 15 year old hoping something works (regulated).

Sometimes I really miss stabbing blindly into the dark like a 15 year old hoping something works... but I miss it only very rarely. :mooncat:

Every single one of these have been user stupidity, every one. Like I said very simple but important rules and you're more than safe.

User stupidity and carelessness should not be the cause of a medical emergency. Here we have a product that, if you make an honest mistake, can blow up your face. While I'm sure that is only in extreme cases I'd prefer not to take that risk.

Then you shouldn't drive then, the majority of all deaths in car accidents are due to user stupidity.

Are you saying that the many tens of thousands of mech users shouldn't be allowed to use mechs because an infinitesimally small percentage do it wrong?

Broad over generalizations like this reflect poorly on what is an overwhelmingly responsible group of people. If you look at the mech crowd, they are quick to aide new mech users, help them be safe and stay safe, share in ideas and search for better ways to make an already amazing thing even more amazing, they are also quick to call down people behaving poorly. This cannot be said for so many other things. Mech devices only require a person learn the basic safeties and execute them each and every time. Its the careless assholes and morons who think they know everything that are a danger and calling people who have effectively become hobbyist engineers is a disservice, IMO. If you dont think mechs are a good choice for people, thats a reflection on your inabilities. Not everyone else's.

Kitchen knives are dangerous. They are so sharp they can cut your coronary artery... that's one hell of a lot of risk for ya. Also, never walk in the woods at night. (If a billiards table falls out of a tree, you're a dead man!)

My "inabilities" have nothing to do with it. I was responding to a point made where issues of the mods blowing up are due to user stupidity. I simply do not feel that user stupidity should result in someone getting their face blown up. My remark was not a condemnation of the entire mech mod community. It was in defense of people making a mistake and having to pay for it with potentially disfiguring repercussions.

Mistakes happen in everything we do. I know plenty of mech mod users who have made mistakes when building and had to rebuild. It happens frequently with little or no harm.

People seem to be interpreting my post as suggesting that all mech mods are ticking time-bombs just waiting for user error. That is not true in almost all cases. Yet for some inexperienced and careless users I'm sure it is.

If I was to give an honest recommendation it would be that if you don't believe you can truly maintain your mech mod 100% of the time then stick with regulated ones. If you are experienced at it then it's probably not a problem, and if you haven't used one yet but want to then listen to those that have and be careful.

Yet when I see pictures of people who have their faces blown up by their mech mods the first thing that crosses my mind is not that they were stupid. They simply made a mistake and now they have to pay for it.

Need photos, here's some due to user stupidity.

Aside from the fancy styling of some tube mech mods, for me they simply lack the technical sophistication of regulated mods that I’ve come to expect. I like being able to choose my wattage. I occasionally use TC. On a number of occasions my mod has alerted me to a short. To me, losing this practical functionality doesn’t seem worth it.

If you like em, good for you. I was simply curious as to why people use em in the first place. I can appreciate their simplify and manual operation, but I don’t think it’s my cup of tea.

It's like this. Going to buy a car you have a choice. Automatic if you just want transportation or manual if you want to drive. Me between regulated or mechanical, well I like Mech's because I want to Vape.

There's no one size fits all, it's what works best for you.

I don't like that people think a mistake on a mech means it's going to blow off your face. That needs to stop. You have to really mess up for that to happen. I'd be willing to bet the majority of mistakes just cause the battery to get hot or not fire at all and then you have to be smart enough to figure out why instead of slamming the fire button some more.

Also there are more phones and laptops blowing up than there are mech mods.

For instance, the guy in the above post was stupid or at the very least, ignorant. A vape shop always built his coils for him until the FDA prohibited them from doing so. So he built his own coil and obviously didn't know anything about mechs, batteries or coil building. I remember commenting on his Facebook post when he was trying to give vaping a bad name.

I didn't know about that. That is entirely uncalled for.

Yep, where's the outrage about the Dangers of Headphones?

Having an irrational fear of electricity is ok. Criticizing others that don’t because they have knowledge isn’t. ;)

Oh man that's got to be bullshit.
I dont believe their is enough strands of copper wire in headphones to carry that much current. Also, the output of a charger cant be more than 5v, 4.5amp. Now I want to do my own mythbusters on this, because its apps that kills not volts. Up to 200mah is enough to be fatal. I guess it's possible that ac by passed the rectifier in the ac to dc charger causing it to jump and on the phone and make it to the headphones. But that shows a plastic housing on the ear bud. Current does not pass any plastics. Maybe the coil in the earphone sparked hit the internal part of the ear but man that's wild. When I get home I'm going to wire apple headphones (based off what is in the image there samsung or apple phones) to my vw box that does up to 15v dc and up to 20amp and I'll dial down to 200ma and see what happens. Fuck the internet spreads so much gossip, fake stuff. I miss the 80s and early 90s.

The issue with electrocution and using headphones or a device plugged in arises from the failure of the wall powered charger. Its output may be very low voltage (5V typ) which cannot push sufficient current due to resistance of our skin, etc. HOWEVER, when it fails and allows LINE VOLTAGE (230V 50Hz AC in EU) to pass through a device that one is using the chance of a fatal shock increases dramatically. Especially if the victim is bathing or in the pool. If the device is unplugged, then there is essentially no hazard present aside from perhaps a battery venting from abuse. And we all know about that. ;)

People want to be stupid around electricity, then yeah bad things WILL happen!
