Well if you want to patent your IDEA... Contact a patent attorney... ALL you need is the IDEA. This step can be done DIY, by contacting US Patent Office.
Next is to take you're drawing to a local machine shop pay them to make a prototype and maybe real drawings...... Could cost several thousand dollars....
Next is to market product to potential manufactures. may need more than ONE prototype for this.
Trust me. Skip the us patent crap. It cost 10’s of thousands of dollars and over two years to do it. And the Chinese will steal it anyway. If your a mechanic and have any machining ability , go and by a inexpensive harbor freight lathe and make up a few of them and test them out. If they work well to your specs. Go to a few shops and let them sell them for you. The only way to make them and sell them at a cost that you can make money is to have 10k made at a time
And you can have a local tooling company do this for you. Either way. Your idea will end up over seas and cheap copy’s will be out in the market. The faster and easier way is just call smok and one of the other companies that are in your country or close by and ast if they would buy your idea. But you need to make a Proof of concept first.
About 20 years ago you could do a poor mans patents by sending yourself a Certified mailed package with the drawings and a proof of concept inside there and never open it and then while you’re waiting for the ever so slow and congested US patent office to approve your Patents, you will have in your possession your proof that you’ve already done it but they no longer do the poor man’s proof of concept
My brother has 8 patents and he has a ton of cash in them and has found his design a trade show and was lucky enough to recoup some of his money by threatening legal action to the other company that stole his design , but other than that he really had no other recourse even though he’d already spent $20,000 on producing the product ,
a working product and the several grand and getting the patents done and the two years it took to get the patents
And these are items that are for a very very small market that is getting larger and is a type of work that would cost you at the lest 500k just to get started with a setup of a two man truck and trailer
Bottom line is this, the patent thing is no longer for any of us working mans game
You have to have big cash if you want to make big cash. And for gods sake. Don’t share or show anyone your idea or give them anymore info then you have. And if you talk to a company to either make them or sell them, get legally signed paperwork of ownership of the idea and that they will not talk, make or sell your idea
And make the drawings in so many different ways that they can’t just add a Phillips screw instead of a different type of holding apparatus.
