Hi,

I'm apart of the Approved Vapers admin team. I just would like to comment that we're a Facebook group with over 35,000 members. We have won the equivalent to these polls in the United Kingdom with the Ecigclick Awards 2016 for Best Vape Forum and Ecigclick Awards 2017 for Best Facebook group. We do count as a forum. We are a web page where users can post comments about a particular issue or topic and reply to other users' postings. @GuideToVaping if there's an issue please do get in touch, I've emailed you through your contact page already. Looking forward to seeing who gets in the top spots! Nice to meet you all :)

You are not a forum and I had Facebook groups for years with more members. Forums in terms of guide to vaping is a separate site.

Any moron can start a Facebook group and draft 100000000 followers. Why do you think there are so many? how many actual vaping forums are there? Less then 10 that are really active. Why? Because its hard work and expensive.

If @GuideToVaping doesn't want us to be qualified within the poll, even though we've won an equivalent of it in the United Kingdom style of polls for Best Vape Forum that is fine. I'm just saying, we are a legit group and have articles done discussing Approved Vapers facebook group in the UK. In 2016, Approved Vapers won against Planet of the Vapes. As @Huckleberried said it depends on whether or not @GuideToVaping would allow it.

Regardless of their decision, they could always add that category next year. With the groups that have landed on their polls over the years, it wouldn't surprise me if it does. Just IMO, FB is a social site, with multiple groups in multiple categories. VU is a site dedicated to vaping.

Of the online forums [vaping and otherwise] I've joined over that last decades, there's never been a pre-approval process.
Why do I have to be approved by your admin to join your FB "forum"?

Simply due to the fact we want to ensure all our members are above 18 to take part of the discussion.

The reason you approve people is so they don’t spam the hell out of the group. Not all groups require approval. It’s set via the group. Hell members can add members without admin approval in many groups.

My point is, and maybe it's me and that's ok if it is. I think of groups and forums as two different things. If I'm a forum member, that's what I call it.
I wouldn't say I'm a member of a FB forum, I would call it a group.

Oh man, what a headache. To clear up the thing about Approved Vapers being a forum -- they do have an actual forum, and a Facebook group. They'll remain on the polls for best forum. As for what I classify as a forum, of course a Facebook group is technically considered as a forum for discussion, however, on GuideToVaping's Best of 2018 Polls, it is not. What many people overlook is the reason why these polls were created back in 2011. They were made to show recognition to the websites, brands, and products that deserve it. I'm sorry, but coming up with a name, clicking a single button and obtaining a following doesn't deserve recognition. I will definitely consider adding a FB group category next year, just to avoid the headache.

The polls were made to encourage our vendors, the manufacturers, and the ones that create websites, like the one we're currently on, to continue doing what they do to give vapers new stores to purchase from, new and innovative products to buy, and a sanctuary for us all to come together. The ones that are doing this are putting in the real work and growing our community. Shouldn't we encourage them and motivate them to continue doing so? Shouldn't we give them the praise for making our online experience more enjoyable as vapers?

I am already in talks with my developer and I plan to completely re-work the Best of plugin that I had built back in, like 2015. The poll will be account-based, two-factor authentication will be enabled, bogus emails and quick email sites will be blacklisted, and a complete list of rules will be placed on the voting page so that everyone understands how to vote correctly on the polls.

For those that will continue participating in the Best of polls on Guide To Vaping, thank you and I'll see you next year. For those that aren't, I appreciate your participation this year.

Here's a blog post about the recent changes on the polls.

Just caught a @Vaping With Vic tube where he mentions he's been axed - with all the votes - for one of the categories from this guide's "poll". So.. Now I wish I'd not even wasted the time to vote. SOP, folks.

I'm always very happy to vote. As I've said before, of course I'm biased, but VU gets my vote for anything it qualifies. VU has been a lifesaver for me! Literally.

Just a mention, to @GuideToVaping ... I do appreciate you explaining your process to us. Just based on the comments on your site page, you've dealt with your own ball of wax.

GO VU! GO VU! GO VU!

When you go to results, it doesn't note that the polls are still or show the end of voting date, so it looks like final results; at least it does to me also

Here's an update for ya...

Since I removed Vic from the "Best of 2018" category, I've been constantly harassed both on my blog, via YouTube, and through email by his following. Yet, the guy is still winning in two categories. How much attention does this guy want?

I like Vic, and watch his reviews. Best reviewer, ok. But I have a hard time convincing myself that a single person can be the Best of Vaping for any year.

Shouldn't be a mystery that I voted for VU in every category I could. For me it’s been vaping’s Best of 2018 and best of vaping period. I mean, just look at how the owner has set it up, and the moderators, the plethora of information, the involvement in all of vaping that VU represents, and in a format that allows members an unchained user experience. Imo it doesn’t get better than being able to directly interact in real time with other people, extremely knowledgeable people, about anything vaping and Vaping Underground is the best place to do that, imo. Power is knowledge. Those with it share it, and those seeking it get it. That’s more important for vapers and vaping than any single person, reviewer, blog, manufacturer, product, vendor,,,

Obviously, as it pertains to “Best of 2018” polling, can't make everyone happy with what voting choices are or are not allowed. Seems Best of XXX would be the best of everything else polled, and could perhaps be could extrapolated.

Right now, the top 3 spots for Best of 2018 are all vendors? Sorry, but I don’t see it. What impact in 2018 have they all made? It certainly wasn't because they sold it to me, even if they were the best at it.
Have they done the most to promote vaping over smoking?
Have they done the most to help as many vapers as possible?
Have they done the most to help battle the FDA’s bs?
Did they somehow revolutionize the vape industry?

I think not.

Yep, I understand wanting the masses to decide, but….vendors? really?

Today I'm kind of sad.

I didn't discover Guide To Vaping until I was already an established vaper. Back then, the "Best Of" Polls might have offered me some useful information and helped shorten my learning curve.... but that was then. Today, the value and future of the Polls is on the verge of change, and only one person can decide whether that change is positive for a better future or the final nails in the coffin for this once-valuable tool.

Blake had a vision to create a site and yearly poll that informed and served as a valuable resource to vapers. A consumer guide, informing purchasing decisions and connecting vapers to the information they needed. A great mission! However, allowing vape fan-bois to stuff the ballot boxes just as fast as they can create new email accounts and change ip addresses has all but ruined any usefulness the polls had to offer. Even more sadly, it's not really Blake's fault. The system would work if people were reaonable.... but it only takes a few bad apples....

Guide To Vaping has come back with new ideas to make next year's poll more secure. I applaud him, but it's too little too late if this year is allowed to run amok. I implore you, Blake, to take the necessary steps to preserve the integrity and value of your polls in 2018 to ensure that by the time you have a more secure system in place, your voice is still a relevant and respected voice in the community and industry, and not just some noise in the background from "that guy who runs those silly annual popularity contest polls".

To be completely honest, @VaporJoe already approached @GuideToVaping to ask to be removed from this year's polls.... we were concerned both that the results are headed in a meaningless direction, and that our own credibility might be harmed by association. GuideToVaping refused to remove any of our entries. Joe and I spoke about it and agreed that a better course of action is to attempt to save the polls by restoring them to what they are supposed to be.... a useful guide to inform a vibrant and growing community of vapers. There's still time to get back to the mission.

Because as things stand right now, this is not a useful resource to..... well..... anyone......
I rest my case..... how much would a new or growing vaper be assisted by this "Top Three" information?..... I'm sorry, but none of the top contenders would even make the top thirty list of sites I'd personally send a new or growing vaper to.....

I know vaping authority its a store but the other two? Oh yes.. in 1 day the greatest mod and coils have been found! and they instantly became #2 and #3 on best of 2018. This is why I wanted Blake to take me out of this shit. I don't want my name, brand, and sites connected to this shit storm and we are winning best forum.

According to polls, VU atm should be winning Best of 2018 imo, for reasons I already stated.
As it stands, omitting the overall best and leaving the polling categorized would be a better representation.

Ty, thank you for the nice words, honestly.

Here's the thing, The "Best of" polls were great at once with useful information, as Ty mentioned. However, it has turned into a huge popularity contest for YouTube personalities to increase their Internet fame. I am very sorry, very sorry that this is what it turned into. But it seems as if every time I try to correct something, someone else finds me at fault for it. I can't please everyone and I'm in a position that no matter what I do, I will not win. I'm that guy each year that some people love and some hate.

I'm completely disgusted, really. These polls were made to recognize others, not for self-recognition. Do you people see the difference here? Everyone wants Internet fame, the increased business, the attention, and so on. What happened to just applauding others for their work and when did it become an "I" thing instead of "we"?

I'm being harassed via social media, emails, and on my own blog because I kept MY polls that I started back in 2011 the same as it has been each year. This is happening because someone doesn't like it. I refused to remove Vaping Underground from the polls because of three reasons:

1. I will not alter votes or entries, as I never have. This will only cause more chaos.
2. Because Vaping Underground and Vapor Joes have supported GTV and these polls nearly from the jump.
3. Because I will not let someone jump in this year and change what I've done each year by sicking their little following on me.

This is what will happen. After the polls end, I will have my developer completely rebuild the polling plugin. Both of us will look into every possible measure that can be taken to eliminate the potential of changing an IP, using a different email, etc. No matter what, I won't be bullied out of this and I will continue to do the polls each year, and I will restore it back to what it once was, with or without the support from the vaping community.

Thanks for your timely and thoughtful response, Blake. @GuideToVaping

For what it's worth, @VaporJoe and I have no desire to dissociate from the polls.... we're both fans of what you're trying to do here, and see the value in the vision.... we're just not fans of what it's become. We want what you want-- for these polls to be a useful and informative resource for vapers seeking information, so it's important that voters take it seriously and think about who and what should honestly top those lists to help others.

I personally applaud your efforts... I just hope that this year's results don't make an irrelevant joke of what you're doing before you can improve it..... for the sake of the Polls certainly, but mostly, for the sake of those who look to the Poll to glean helpful info.... what will they see?

If there's a way to game the system, people will game the system. And there's always a way to game the system.
I personally don't believe you can legislate integrity. You can put all the protections in place, and unethical people will find a work around.

In this Look At Me! era we now live in, self interest trumps all. One glance at any social media platform will drive that home.
Good luck fixing it.

pee ess: I've been around this vaping thing for a while, and I've never even heard of 2 and 3. I have a vague knowledge of #1. None of them would make my top 25.

First: I missed voting . Considering what's happened I feel terrible not casting a vote today or yesterday.

I agree wholeheartedly with what's been said here. And its no coincidence that VA take first place by 5 votes - 4 had I voted. VU was safely in first place by 11 until the lasts minute if I recall correctly. And a forum is a group of people whole come together to learn and help others in a "dedicated" area within the forum. I agree, there are no sub-forums where one can go to specifically talk about homemade coil building, DIY, battery safety or even A Beginner's Guide to Vaping.

Tainted polls indeed! This should have been addressed far before voting first opened. It was a circus.

I'm truly sorry Joe & Ty. You've so much into VU you undoubtedly earned and deserved to be Best of 2018 with an army by your side.
