1st build- a few questions

hello!

I am sketching ideas for a future unregulated build, and wanted to get a little more information about a couple things-

First, I read the differences in parallel vs series wiring of the batteries. I understand that the parallel will get longer battery life and higher amperage, allowing a safer lower limit on ohms. The series looks like it will have the same battery life and amperage as a single battery, but gives double the voltage. How does the series wiring affect the vape, and what do you all prefer and why?

Also, I was looking into using a mosfet- how do you decide how much resistance is needed? Would the same mosfet be used with dual 18650s as say a triple 21700?

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I moved your thread to Unregulated (Mechanical) mods

Do you already own a mechanical mod? I would really recommend you begin with a mosfet for safety reasons

Before going any further, you really need to study up and understand ohm's law before jumping into mechanicals

I do own a single battery mech mod and understand ohms law.

What it looks like to me with series is you get a significant amount more power pushed through the coils, so you would have to build higher resistance to accommodate for that.

If that’s accurate, it seems like the higher resistance/smaller wire could potentially burn easier. I wanted to see if anyone could fill me in on the pros and cons of parallel vs series wiring outside the physics and how it would relate to the vape.

My question about the mosfet was how to calculate the resistance needed to safely use it.(most I have seen are 15k)

This is where I would start if I were going to attempt it:

With series most time I build a fat coil with more wraps to get a higher ohm. Like a 9wrap framed staple. Put me at .49ohms. 124 watts at 15amps which is plenty safe for the batteries.

My experience with my single 18650 mech- was that it was challenging to build something low resistance, with low mass that would ramp up quick. The best results I had on it were with a pair of parallel 26 gauge stainless, about 0.9 ohms.

If I wanted to go with larger coils to increase surface area, would series be the way to go, and switch to kanthal to keep the resistance up?

Would running multiple batteries in parallel help with the problem of needing low wire mass to heat up quickly?

I use larger coils for series just so the wire doesn't burn up. I don't vape series all the time though. Just on occasion. With parallel you need more power to her more mass. With series the power is already there. You have to accommodate your colis to the power you want. But the staples I use in series fire instantly
