Simple Recipes for Dummies (or the first step on the DIY slippery slope)

Hi all,
Many of us started vaping with juices bought from a store, I know I did. Years later and the DIY bug bit me....hard! I'm a tinkerer by nature so mixing my own concoctions seemed the natural next step.I started with "one shot " from different places then progressed to buying flavorings and such and trying to make my own juices - most were great degreasers, our sink is super clean and smells great too. I soon realized that it takes quite a bit of knowledge to mix a good recipe, many times what makes sense on paper doesn't vape very well. Since quitting wasn't in me, I started looking around and found a post by @HeadInClouds, a apple pie and marzipan that was absolutely awesome .
The reason for this thread's existence is to not only thank @HeadInClouds for his generosity in sharing his expertise and recipes but to also encourage you all, new to vaping or not, new to mixing or not to help the community at large, to post your simple - two or three flavors juice recipes. There's nothing wrong with complex recipes but baby steps are needed. I still remember the first time I mixed a good juice, the aforementioned apple pie and marzipan. Let's help those of us less gifted, the ones just starting , the flavor challenged.

This is a wonderful idea!

First 3 are mine. Well adapted to what I had at the time. Which worked well. The fourth is a clone for Mega melons by cuttwood

First, I also want to express my appreciation for @HeadInClouds many contributions and delicious recipes. Hope he's well somewhere.
Second, I like your idea for this thread a lot. Not just for the reasons you mentioned, but also because so many recipes require so many flavorings that it gets overwhelming. I'm sure the recipes calling for all the ingredients are great, but I have so few of them and not enough space to store them all.
I'd contribute if I could, but I just mix what others have posted. Nothing original from me, sad to admit.

Ditto.

A few years ago, you and I were posting in the other thread in ECF, sharing our opinions on the commercial liquids we had purchased. I followed the purevapes thread there as well, but didn't take the plunge into DIY. When i finally decided it's time, I found that the participants in that thread had moved en masse to VU. Long story short, it was HIC's (and a few others like WLLMC, Huckleberried, Rocket Puppy, Bryong, AmandaD, Jimi D, and others) recipes, that made the transition to DIY seamless. The great advantage, I found, was that if a recipe wasn't to my liking, i wasn't out the $15 to $20 when I didn't like a store bought juice. I want to thank all of them, including the ones whose names I can't currently recall.

The following very simple recipe has been my adv for a long time.
You can skip or substitute sweetener as suits you.
also I mix fairly low flavor percentages but the recipe can be adjust upwards in flavoring just keep the ratio of CAP VC V1 and CAP VWC the same.
I have also used this recipe as a base for adding a bit of cinnamon danish swirl or fruit flavorings or some CAP Apple Pie V1 and a bit of double apple.

Cromwells Custard.

120 ML batch
4 ml Capella Vanilla Custard V1
1.6 ml Capella Vanilla Whipped Cream
6 drops NuNaturals NuStevia sweetener
Nic to suit
And the balance of 120 ML 50/50 PG/VG. Might need more flavoring if upping the VG percentage.

This is pretty much shake and vape but best if left overnight.
Changes very little with additional steeping.
6 days or 6 months is pretty much the same vape.
LOL and yes I found some nearly a year old in my go bag and it was still fine.

Just ordered the whipped cream for your custard. Heard about it long enough time to try

Crom do you only use CAP?
For now mostly...
I also use Hangsen Desert Ship tobacco, and a few others though.
Capella seems to agree with my pecular tastes and more of their flavoring to not cause an allergic reaction with me.
I rejected about 90% of the flavorings I have tried because of chemical tasting or causing an allergic reaction. ie Oral, throat and lung irritation.

Whatever works for you. That is the DIY way. I've got a bunch of CAP flavors in my arsenal.

I love simple diy! For a simple type of mix (single flavors) Flavorah Wild Melon and Peach gummy 2-3% and it's golden.
Capella's 27 fish 5-7% single mix. (It depends on your vaping method mtl/dL hit) and what mix your using. I like to add this in because the mix pg/vg has some play in the % of flavoring used. I'm in the middle of a ocular migraine and this is all I can post right now.

yep, it has been a rough DIY trip for me though because of my peculiar tastes ans bad reactions to ingredient(s) in many flavorings.
I had to go DIY very quickly as I only found 1 store bought eliquid that I could vape without allergic reactions.
I first got natural flavorings from flavorconcentrates.com. Those flavorings and DIY are what kept me off of cigs. I later tried many of the more common flavorings used in vaping once I saw that vaping could work for me.

Was really touch and go on going back to smoking there for the first couple of months.
Smoke free now for over 4 years :)

I am convinced that vaping is not for everyone for a few reasons.
One of them being that it is more trouble than simply buying and incinerating cigarettes.
For a few of us a LOT more trouble.

I agree. There needs to be an actual desire to quit smoking and initially, some enjoyment needs to be derived from vaping. I picked up vaping and was guided into a crappy mod by some dumb kid at a vape shop about 4 years ago and it didn't take. Then I did a little research and got into the right stuff, found some juice I liked and haven't looked back. Now I can't get enough. Building coils, making juice, building mods, etc

Do you mind sharing your recipe. I've had the Hangsen Desert Ship for a while now, but haven't done anything with it yet.

This my most complicated recipe. It is a sweet tobacco vape but I like it.
Sorry for the drops and such mixed in but that is how I make it :)
Just never converted it all to ML and do not make it too often any more.
The drops are from the small flavoring bottles, smaller than an eyedropper drop.

Use less of the Brown sugar and butterscotch for a more authentic cig flavor.
Cromwells Camel

120 ml batch.
3 ml Hangsen Desert Ship
30 drops TFA Brown Sugar Extract
30 drops FW Butterscotch (just the plain butterscotch)
6 Drops FA liquid Amber
Nic and PG/VG to taste for balance of 120 ml.

Thanks. I only have Fa Butterscotch. I will try it with that.

Do you know how many of your drops add up to 1 ml? I think it's about 40 drops with my bottles.

As I recall it was 40-45?

do like I did start low and work you way up till it tastes like you want.
As I recall FW has 4 different butterscotch's? Ripple, natural and I forget the others.
.
I have also tried a couple of other brands of butterscotch and not found any two to be alike :)

The FA may work well. according to my flavor log I have never tried that one.

All these use FA flavorings, all recipes are courtesy of @HeadInClouds :

The one that got me started, a simple shake and vape
4% FA Apple Pie
2% FA Marzipan

Another favorite from HIC :
1% FlavourArt Vienna Cream
1% FlavourArt Catalan Cream
1% FlavourArt Tiramisu
1% FlavourArt Fresh Cream

Shake 'n vape!

And finally, one of my current ADV :
LAZY MORNING :
2% FA Cappuccino
2% FA Irish Cream
2% FA Zeppola
a shake and vape that gets better with time.

All these recipes are posted by HIC in separate threads with suggested variations to each recipe. If you have the time and inclination, look them up, it is well worth the time. :vino:

I remember.
I should have also given deserved credit to the folks you mentioned.
The thing for me is that over the last two or three years I've been traveling a fair amount, so stopped the DIY because it became so much easier to just buy premades. Of course, even forgetting the premium one pays for commercial liquids, I'm having a hard time finding ones I like anymore, even those I once did. NETs being the exception. Although, Clean Vape has been ok for me of late. I won't knowingly vape sucralose etc. and they're up front about not using it. Anyway, if I can manage to stay put, I'm looking forward to plunging into my stash of saved recipes.

I did not want to quit but the wife unit sneaked and got me a cigalike kit. so I gave it a shot and actually quit using cigalikes.
For me quitting was not an issue staying quit was and without moving on beyond cigalikes it would not have lasted long.

This is a simple recipe HIC found on an Italian website with no author to credit. It was buried in some thread here and I have no idea where it is now.

2% FA Cuban Supreme
2% FA Espresso
2% FA Caramel

I don't taste the Cuban tobacco part, it melds in with the coffee. This vapes as a sweet caramel coffee.

I buy some NETs once in a while from N.E.T, Mountain Oak Vapors, and Goodejuice, but 90% of what I vape is DIY nowadays, even NETs.

I just ordered a few flavors from DIY flavor shack and they are damn good. Holy Vanilla, Gooey Butter Cake, and Mr Good Stuff, I just did my flavor tests on them and at 1% they have a nice good background note, at 3% they really form a great base and at 5% they are strong. Holy Vanilla might be the best vanilla I've ever tasted.
