What are safe nicotine strengths in vape juice?

I went to a local shop to buy vape juice and since I add menthol flavoring (no such thing as too menthol) asked for strength 24 - which i have been buying.

The very personable young man raised his eyebrows. "Depending on the device. we limit strength to 6, usually." Then he went to fill my request.

Another customer at the counter said, "That's because some devices deliver five times the nicotine strength, and they don't want you to get nicotine poisoning from one of their products."

Well, we're all in agreement on that!

Translation?

I started on 36-24mg, but that was 2012 and the gear (14650 mod and cartomisers) was vastly underpowered compared to today's gear.

Really depends on how ya vape and with what. 24mg on a sub-ohm DL vape at high wattage is kinda insane. But I still vape 15mg around 25-40W doing a restricted DL type vape.

Especially if you are a newer vaper still getting off cigs, and aren't DL at low ohms and high power, I don't see a problem with it. These days, most vape-kids have never seen juice above like 12-16mg in their lives. Cloudbroz.....

Nic will quickly tell you if ya had too much....headaches, dizzyness, upset tummy, etc.
They are just covering their asses.

What device are you using? What resistance are your coils, and what wattage are you using? Mouth to lung or direct to lung?

Thank you! I was flummoxed. I can't handle higher than 30 watts. I dilute by about 5/1 with more menthol, so I should be good. I appreciate your answer.

You can also always dilute your juice down with VG from Wal-Mart, if you want to lower the nic and don't want to get at vape shop or online.

This is a very simplistic e-liquid calculator: https://www.steam-engine.org/juice.html

Their Humco brand should be fine, make sure it's 100% USP Vegetable Glycerine with nothing else added.

We used to use this years ago:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Humco-Glycerin-USP-An-Emollient-Demulcent-6-fl-oz/10417582

Now, that's a stopgap sort of deal. You can get better deals online for VG/PG from AMZ and many other places. But, if your juice is too strong in nic and you have no choice, it'll do.

Thanks - I've been using food grade menthol which works quite well.

Food grade? May want to be careful of that. I've only used menthol crystals to make a 10% dilution in PG that I'd use as flavoring. Or, you can buy pre-mixed: https://wizardlabs.us/index.php?route=product/search&search=menthol

Stuff goes a looong way.

"Food grade" isn't always something you'd want to inhale. Read the labels and be sure it doesn't have stuff you don't want to breathe in it..

Maybe I misspoke. Been getting it from liquid nicotine wholesalers online. This:

Thank you. Somebody has to. It's a formidable task, though! Never hesitate to call me on something. Odds are good I don't know what I'm doing!

No problem.
But, you knew enough to ask questions...that's a good thing. ;)

.Another customer at the counter said, "That's because some devices deliver five times the nicotine strength, and they don't want you to get nicotine poisoning from one of their products."
This is false. Some devices deliver more power than others. Some tanks use coils the require more power to be used optimally. More power usually = more vapor. I wouldn't want to try 24mg free base nic at 90W. But I have no problem vaping 35mg salts in a pod device (way less power).

Everybody's different. But I noticed something when I cut down on my nic intake. The flavor of the liquid improves BIG TIME. I started at 18mg on an ego pen. Then I cut to 12mg. When I got my first RTA I was down to 6mg. Eventually I cut down to 3mg and that's where I've been for years. Even the cut from 6 to 3 I noticed the liquid tasted so much better. Just something to think about if you ever decide to lower your preferred level.

Thanks! That's the goal, but I'm afraid if I get perfect nobody will like me anymore.
