Features and characteristics that are deal breakers to you, or not, in a piece of vaping equipment.

I'll start.

Noisy airflow (within some sane semblance of reason)

Unless it's an ear piercing whistle, I couldn't care less how loud an atomizer,s airflow is. This seems to matter to a lot of people and I'm not looking askance at them for that, but it really doesn't matter to me at all.

A mod that "boots up" longer than an old computer. You know, when it displays a bunch of branding, chipset, software version, your mother's maiden name, your blood type and etc. Then asks you every time you put it down if this is a new atomizer. Just turn on and let me vape! It's a vaping device, not a quiz show!

That drives me nuts also - it's just a drain on battery life

To me, the quieter the better, but flat out whistling is no go - the sound of vaping can really be disruptive to movies, talking on the phone, etc

Uneven contacts on mechs+ silver plating. This annoys me...some great mfgs out there making quality mechs... but you get their switch contact and its not truly flat...then they do a few micron thick silver plating on it, which also isn't truly flat...and then you see arc marks down the line.

I get the silver plating is more for cleaning purposes, but it only compounds a shitty surface to even shittier standards all in the name of follow the leader.

Also dislike overly ornate mods... most look like shit...

Can we stop using chrome plating over plastic? lol

Dislike Italian mods...fuckers think they made a Ferrari and charge like it...mother fucker its a 3d printed mod and you want $675? Get the fuck out of here.

Well I guess there is a lot of deal breakers for me HAHA... probably why I like simple Stainless Mechs... like Fused said... push the button and vape /end

All the damn "Rainbow" colored shit. Like, I go to order something and all that is left is frakkin' rainbow color.

While there are a few I've seen that are more of an iridescent and quite pretty, the majority are things Ru Paul would say are tacky. o_O

agreed on the noisy as fuck, leaking, small capacity under 4ml, poor AFC design, (no easy way to secure the glass to the tank - minor), loose top cap filling ports must be backpack or pocket friendly.

Vendors that don't show oos on listing
The one pisses me off bigger than big, especially til you don't find out til 2 days after you've paid for it, or something else shows up at your door. That happened recently, but they also fixed that in a big way, so I'm happy. There's a lot to be said about customer service. A deal gone wrong can make or break that relationship. Because of their fix, I'll still shop there and I'll sing their praises. Treat your customers well, it really goes a long, long way.

Don't care about TC, not one bit.
Don't like LOUD or leaky tanks.
Don't like rattle on battery covers.
Don't like super heavy mods.
DO want good battery life, so I don't care if the mod has a clock. Really?
Don't like juice hoggin' tanks.
Don't like glossy finishes, but not a deal breaker, just makes me feel like I have to be ultra cautious.

While there are a few I've seen that are more of an iridescent and quite pretty, the majority are things Ru Paul would say are tacky.
And it's almost always the one they send to me. Some are beautiful on the listing, but not the ones I've gotten.

Oh, and bubble glass. Yes, more capacity is great, but I really don't like bubble glass. And it will keep me from ordering something that I might like, otherwise.

Guys that make after market items for other companies mods and then act like you’ve committed the unpardonable sin if you have a clone.
Airflow is a big one for me. Has to be smooth and relatively quiet.
The dl/mtl atties. You can’t do both and do it well IMO.

rainbow is here to stay. i wanted a sigelei sobra in rainbow n it took months to find one.
rainbow sells out fast.
what i hate are boxy mods. right angles make them uncomfy to hold.

While I prefer the look of a talker glass with chimney extention I do understand why they use the bubble glass. Much cheaper from a business perspective. Capacity and performance mean more to me than looks.

Oh this is perfect, only because I love to bitch. lmao. No seriously, there's quite a few things that bug me.

Noisy airflow and like others mentioned whistling. Nope, not trying to hail a train.

Juice flow control - can we bring it back? It used to exist and worked quite well, now every lazy ass rta designer just skips it. Brand names skip it. I have older tanks from oddballs or lesser knowns like ehpro that nailed it and it worked beautifully. The juice flow could be shut off, add juice, cap and open it back up. Look at that, no juice pissing all over the mod because the top cap put pressure on a tank that lost its vacuum. What next, are they going to bring back the fiddly little screw underneath the damn tank to fill it?

Temp control. I use it sometimes and enjoy it, others don't. If a mod's going to offer it at least make sure it works and isn't a dud. If you're a mod maker and can't sort your shit to make tc work properly, just leave it off. Features are only worthwhile if they actually work.

Paint. It's coming up on the 2nd decade into the 21st century. We've got rovers exploring mars, people doing studies on buttchugging and someone counting the hair folicles on the duckbilled platypus. Can we spare like 3 guys and a case of beer to sort out how to make paint stick to metal? That'd be sweet.

Any number of other quality control issues. Things like glued 510 connectors. We all know they're shit, so why keep doing it? Secure the damn thing, a couple screws isn't going to kill the bottom line. I promise. I'll pay the extra nickel. Rattling buttons, there's no excuse. Chinese electronics back to basics 101, I've bought $15 keyboards with over 100 keys on them and they don't rattle. My mouse has 10 keys on it and a scroll wheel along with removable weights and doesn't rattle. A mod has.. 3? 4 buttons? Come on. Micro usb ports, even if someone's doing the dreaded onboard charging. No reason for musb ports to pull out when millions of smartphones have them and get knocked off tables, fall off dashboards, get plugged in 5-10x a day. Their micro usb ports don't just fall the hell out.

I get it that vaping is newish but even now mods have been on the market quite awhile. Even if the combination of things on a mod is new the concepts aren't. Rattle free buttons, solid usb ports etc have all been perfected. Given the typical price for regulated mods starting around $40-50 and many mainstream mods and kits running $50-100 for what's essentially a glorified battery pack, time to step the game up. It's petty things mostly but that's why it's so irritating.

In no particular order, these bug me.
1. Top airflow RTA's are almost all deal breakers for me with the exception of the Dead Rabbit and sometimes the Juggerknot (mood of day dependent). Every single one of them gets my beard all wet. Super annoying. Angle it downward, not up or straight out.
2. Non Protruding 510 pins. At this point in vaping it should be a standard.
3. Not including spares in packaging (Yes you, Bruce Pro Innovations, I wanted to like you but cant now)
4. Commercial E-Liquids that have no flavor profile on the bottle and the name doesn't indicate what it is. Its one thing if I made it because I should know what it is. Its another to try and guess what it is from the vampire on the bottle sucking the blood of a unicorn on top of a magic mushroom, all in day glow fluorescent ink. At least give us a hint.
5. Poorly designed mech switches. With all of the innovation and engineering marvels we have at our disposal, there is no excuse for this. If a switch design sucks, steal someone else's. That is what everyone else does.
6. Poor machining of a mech mod from a "Quality" brand. If I bought it, I would be willing to pay a few more $$ to have something made a little better if it meant not having crunchy threads and wobbly 510 connectors.
7. 3D printed anything with the word premium. Just because it takes 12 hours to print doesn't mean its worth a lot of money.
8. When a vape company gets marketing right and becomes a sensation and everything they have sucks and will always suck, yet they still get a cult following.
9. Amazing mods that nothing matches with either in design or in color.
10. Pot metal housings on high end mods. No excuse.
11. 1 pass paint jobs and poor anodizing. Tesla makes some of the best low cost PWM mods and do some of the worst finishing jobs. They look a thousand years old after 1 week. Makes no sense.
12. Mech tubes that have clear coating over a natural finish. Patina is welcome, do not rob us of that experience.
13. Brittle drip tips. They never last very long.

I do not care about whistling personally but everyone around does (cant hear it). I do love when a big airflow atty sounds like a jumbo jet at takeoff because it tells me the magic is about to happen.

Capacity and performance mean more to me than looks.
I'm a function over beauty guy.

It's not that looks don't mean anything to me at all, but they aren't the defining motivation in my buying something. If I can get the color I want for the same price, I'll get the color I like best. I might even wish they had my color or that the company made a different one. I MIGHT pay a coupla bucks more, maybe, but I'm not paying 10 dollars more for an rda or 20 more for a mod just to get my color or color scheme.

If I see an item that everybody is saying does what I like really well and somebody has an eye popping sale, I'll get it no matter what it looks like. If something is a jaw dropping work of art and maybe even has incredible build quality, but doesn't look like it will vape how I like, I may ooh and ah over somebody else,s, but I won't get one. Especially if it's expensive, which puts it outta the question anyway.

My Sense Heracles rta2 and rta mini (same base and deck) have jfc and I love it. My main around town atty. Close it while moving and open it to vape. voila.

EDIT: Btw, those Haracles tanks are still great. Got the rta2 for six bucks in a clearance bin and it sits at the same table with my Lotus and Kylin V2 for flavor and vapor production, despite being prehistoric by today's standards.

Looks in devices does make a difference to me, silver (leather accents are good) but attys I just want function, good looks are a bonus of course.

Yep the person on the other end of the phone conversation may think they are talking with Darth Vader :)

I have found that many whistles can be cured with a different coil, coil placement or a bit more wattage.

My personal biggest dislike is gaudy flashy led lights on mods.
As I said my personal dislike, many like the bling...

Along these lines, I don't necessarily care how new something is. Meaning when it was released. Especially atomizers (but mechs too)

Totally agree, and that's just one more reason I'm so completely spoiled with my Achilles; unless some juice has gotten into the airflow (I go nuts and overfill it, or sometimes it's just condensate from the vapor itself) which provides ye old "gurgle," my Achilles is almost totally silent -- my son's sub-ohm tanks sound like a freakin wind tunnel! The couple times I've tried to go back and use one of my old KFL+s, same thing -- noisy as hell, and I'm just not used to that anymore, after nearly 4 yrs of the Achilles.

I also agree about those mods that ask "is this is a new atomizer?" and that's just one more reason I HATE TC vaping, and set all the mods I have which offer TC, to a normal wattage setting. Vaping at 10w is pretty much its own "TC". ;)

Unacceptable:

Popping and spitting, honest to God, when I first started vaping sub-ohm tanks, I was using Atlantis coils on just about all my tanks, and many of those tanks just could not heat up without giving that one good, loud, HOT POP!!! of juice, right up onto my lips.

The price of pre-made juice. Highway freakin robbery, now that we know about DIY, it costs, what $4 or less to mix up a 60ml bottle of juice? They charge roughly SIX TIMES that for juice at B&Ms. But let's face it, the consumables are where the money can be made.

Non-standard drip tips. Just. Why? Why can we not just have 510s and 810s and be done with it?

Leaking tanks, even the ones with juice flow control will leak if you don't do everything in exactly the right sequence, and dammit, I'm old and can't remember from one damn time to the next what the exact right sequence is. Or if I move from a Kayfun to the Herc RTA, there's a whole different series of shit I have to do to get the things filled so they won't leak. This is why I LOVE top-airflow tanks! And top/side airflow RDAs, thank you very much!

I hate getting juice on my hands!

@Huckleberried I don't like bubble glass, either! Also don't like lime green, army green, flashing lights, plastic, SKULLS (what is the reasoning behind putting skulls on vape gear?), little hard-to-turn battery caps with crap threading, battery doors that won't stay shut/on/clipped, loose pieces and parts (shame on you, Wotofo, for this Recurve mod that I loved, now that it's a month old, its parts wiggle and click like my damn old knees).

Oh and menus on mods (yes, I'm talking to you, YIHI) that make me swear and want to chuck the mod out the window.

Oh and people who know fuck all about vaping passing judgement on my vaping. And the damn legislature in New York outlawing the sale of flavored e-liquid. Fuckers.

Oh and companies like Geekvape, who has been my favorite vape gear company and should know better, releasing a mod like the Aegis Legend with the damn stainless steel temp control not working properly. For real?

Oh and companies that rewrap batteries and then LIE about the capabilities of the batteries.

Getting very nearly mandatory:

Dual batteries in 18650 mods
20700s or 21700s whenever possible, especially in mechs
Rebuildable attys
Stuff that works for more than four months, that you don't have to fiddle around with all the time to get it to work properly

may i add that i hate that producers of mods don't employ women .
it is clear to me that male eyes are different.
i believe they simply can't see many colors that we can.

And can we reflect a minute on some earlier posts about expensive ass mods (I'm looking at you YiHi and Evolv) that are still made from damn pot metal they lovingly try to fool us with the technical name "zinc alloy" which fucking paint WILL NOT stick to without a proper acid bath if even then. Then you get the piece of shit for way too much money, and it shoots shit. You fill out a ticket, send in your proof of purchase receipt, and mail the bastard in (on your own dime even). Then after days or even weeks, they email you and tell you they found juice inside the mod on the board and that your atomizer must have leaked and now this $250 fucking paper weight is your problem. All the while you know damned good and fucking well your shit didn't leak. It's their rubber stamp get-out-of-jail-free card for their useless ass warranty that they were never going to honor in the first damn place!

That was it! And quite aptly named, it turned out. :giggle:

Speaking of vapey stuff suitable for women... a few years ago, Innokin had a line especially for women... but they were pen-styles, and I think most of us around here have pretty much moved beyond the pen styles, both for juice quantity and battery life. But those feminine pens WERE very attractive. Why can't there be more femme vapey stuff, even if it's in a box of some type? Rounded corners, curves, and pretty colors.... I think most females would really appreciate vapes like that! And I'm pretty sure that any MATURE man would prefer a mod that wasn't decorated with the leavings from comic-con.

it's clear to me that the target market for mod makers are teen boys,
i don't understand this as the men here seem to be adult.
they may be trying to sell to underage kids, as actual men can probably do without skulls or buck roger stuff.

I agree. One reason I love the Topside squonk mod. Simplistic, tasteful, not a bunch of crazy designs, but technologically innovative. I will admit; I have a Rig/Roughneck combo with skulls on it. But more for the mod than the skulls. However, I'm a retired Marine! We made skulls for a living, killing bodies! Lol

So... I guess you think that ejuice makers are targeting kids, by selling sweet flavors?

The point being made here is that yes, these skull designs ARE childish... but that doesn't mean they are being marketed AT kids... it means the adults who buy them need to emerge from their mid-life crises and stop buying crap that looks more appropriate in the hands of a teenage boy!

Geez.

Damn I like your post#... I would add that drip tip adaption should be like tires...it don't matter the brand of car/tank... They are universally installed the same. So every 810 to 510 adaptor should fit each mod... And just because a unit is sold with 810 don't assume people won't prefer to use 510 instead.. Driptips are a very personal fitting ...like shoes.

I would like to see atty m'ftring to commit to their products more.... When you make a good product don't abandon it after 6 months....it cost you less to keep making a good product than gamble on the next gimmicky product

Do have to agree with juice bottles that have a weird fuckn name and no damn descripion.

ROFL... my husband was a Marine. He says being a Marine is all about travelling to exotic places, meeting new and exotic people... and killing them. :giggle: Yes, he's mostly joking. Mostly. ;)

I'm totally with nadalama about those lame SKULLS. Jeezus pete, WHY??????? What is so fucking compelling about a goddamn death's head????????

There was a mod a while back that featured a busty babe on it... now THAT, I could understand; men love boobies! But a fucking SKULL??? A lot of you guys need to grow the hell up and leave off the damn comic books! Come to think of it, though, I think that busty-babe mod turned out to be super dangerous. Teehee. :teehee:

I like skulls, and dragons, gargoyles, reapers, and some super hero's.

I dunno ,,,, when I see a guy with something all about a busty boobed woman,,, my creep radar goes off. The guy is so bad he had to buy her,, , run like hell before your missing body is announced on the news.

Nah, it's kinda like those skin mags that guys like -- some guys will buy them, and some won't, but most hetero guys like to at least LOOK at them. I don't have a problem with men expressing their natural inclinations towards looking at attractive women -- like those busty-babe mud flaps on big trucks, or the bikini girls on calendars you see in mechanics' shops.

Looking at attractive members of the gender one is inclined toward is not unnatural in the least -- but skulls? Now THAT is disturbing.

I could get behind the super heros -- bring on Aquaman! :giggle: Or hell, even Wolverine... Hugh Jackman is fine eyecandy, even if he's sporting Freddie Krueger blades!

Ok, back to topic... :teehee: I agree with you, @kross8, about driptips -- they should all be interchangeable -- some folks like the fat huff tips, but some of us still want narrow-aperture 510s. The size or compatibility of an atty's driptip really shouldn't be an issue.
