DEODERIZING PLASTIC?

hiya, guys.
about 25% of the juices i buy are disgusting.
they go right on the garden as fertilizer.
but, i need the plastic bottles.
water by itself isn't taking the foul smell away.

is there a way to clean these for reuse, or must they go to the landfil?
i paid for these bottles so i'd prefer using them.

ideas?

If i would've put lol.. then it would've been a joke. Ever walk thru a dept store and realize they have coffee beans at the perfume counters? And what i do also is i buy 30ml gorilla bottles. I buy juice in 100 mls bottles then fill my gorillas for daily use. Don't want no one saying "o my is that a bottle in your pocket or you just happy to see me"
Try the coffee.. works for me. Obviously rinse well with no soap after toy remove from ziplick

Some say vinegar works, some have used a VERY mild bleach dilution to soak them, then rinse really well. If I can't get the smell out of plastic, I usually recycle them. Granted that vaping can nickle and dime ya to death, but bottles are pretty reasonably priced.

Isopropyl Alcohol can often prove useful to deodorize bottles ... just fill them up and let them sit for a day or so with the alcohol in them. Make sure to let them air out fully after draining because the alcohol has a bitter agent added to it to make it unpalatable for human consumption. Not to worry however, any residual will evaporate fully given enough time.

You may not be able to salvage all your bottles though as some flavoring in sufficient strength can actually permeate soft plastic, mostly citrus flavors but there are others too. This isn't really a problem with harder plastics such as PET but some of the caps used on those bottles can still be susceptible to this as well.

is rubbing alcohol safe to use?
i know you can die if you drink it.
I use 90% isopropyl for cleaning vape stuff. Only way yto get odor from some plastics I have found.
rins well with water and soap, then isopropyl and let some sit in the bottle for an hour or so then dump and let air dry for a day.
Takes a while for all the iso to get out of the plastic pores.

Clean tanks and such the same way.

Hot, soapy Dawn water and a capful of bleach, soak for a few hours or overnight. Scalding hot rinse, air dry. If there's still an odor, I have used lemon water or a baking soda solution. If that doesn't work, I toss them.

You can also use PGA if you are more comfortable with that although it's quite a bit more expensive.

Isopropyl Alcohol will evaporate pretty quickly so as long as you let the bottles dry out completely, it shouldn't pose any hazard. In fact, given the minute amounts we are talking about here, even if you didn't let them dry, you'd likely only have a problem with the taste as opposed to any toxicity it might present.

Yep as long as it does not smell of alcohol I expect that there is no risk.
Takes my stuff about 1 day for the smell to totally go away.

And as you said I do not think that the .1 ml or less that might be lift in what you cleaned poses any risk anyway. Tastes bad though and can spoil juice flavor.
Drinking the stuff is bad but that is a noticeable volume :)

I have used the isopropyl to clean plastic bottles that had tobacco flavored juice in them with great results. Tobacco flavor is hard to get rid of.

I use a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water for most of my household cleaning; counters, micro, toaster oven, fridge, etc.

For juice bottles, I'l rinse in hot water first, then blast the inside with some of the solution, shake around and repeat until I can't smell anything but the vinegar.. Then, rinse well with hot water again and I'm done.

A few menthol/mint/dark juice/flavorings bottles have needed a drop of bleach in water and let it set just a minute, but then do the above until THAT smell is gone too.

Hot water and Dawn Dish washing liquid works for me. Just a soak in hot water and not even the nastiest smells linger. Totally safe if you wanted to consume it................

Dawn ultta is the best. I call it the Don because it makes unwanted things go away. Seriously though Dawn Ultra in like a sink full of hot water soak for a couple of hours rinsed and then soaked again for a couple of hours and then rinsed extremely well works wonders. I use it on my bottles my tanks heck I even use it on my clothes when I get a grease stain from cooking. But it's got to be the blue Dawn Ultra the others don't work as well. Just my opinion

I just had this issue. Rushed it not paying attention and had to dump 120ml that tasted like ass. I go dawn n hot water real good. Shaking the shit outa it. Then let it sit. If taste still is there i do half water and vinegar. Shake the hell outa it again and let it sit. Then rinse well again. Does the trick 4 me. I need to get larger glass to mix n store in.
If all fails i toss em

the nice thing about these suggestions is that i have all those products on hand.

in fact, i use them all for general cleaning.

i just didn't think of them for deodorizing.
i don't clean plastic much.

well, i was gonna try all methods recommended, but i was in the kitchen, so i tried huck's n wb80's vinegar first.
mixed with water. it eliminated the most disgusting smell after a couple days.
might have been quicker, but i didn't think to check it before that.
now, i have bottles to use.
thanks everybody.
