Do NOT use cheap wall adapters for charging!

I have Xtar mc1 1amp charger. It is charging my battery to 4.19 or 4.20 exactly. Usually Im using apple iPhone wall adapter but today I tried cheap 5 years old Joyetech Ego 0.5 amp wall adapter. Now my battery is slightly overchargerd at 4.23.

Use only quality wall adapters even if you have high end charger!

Maybe somebody more knowledgeable will explain to us why this is happening.

Don't use the cheap adapter, it is under rated. The charger is 1A, so make sure your adapter can at least output this.

It is very strange the battery was slightly overcharged if it has been consistently at 4.19 or 4.2V. Usually batteries come off at say 4.2V, then drop a bit quickly. How long did it take for the voltage to fall under 4.2V, or did it stay at 4.23V?

The adapter has no say on how far your battery is charged, this is all controlled by the charger so although strange, isn't actually the adapters fault in this case.

Maybe the Joyetech adapter is more than 1amp. Is it possible or even if I plug Samsung charger (2.1A) the charger will draw only 1A?

Yep as long as the wall adapter is capable of putting out more amps than the charger needs all is good.
The charger will use what it needs from the adapter. But if the adapter can't keep up bad things are likely to happen.

All clear. But if so why I cant use more than 1amp adapter for charging my Vtc Mini with usb cable? Or maybe because it has much cheaper charging board.

You can use a 2 amp wall adapter for the VTC mini if you want.
i used to use a 2 amp adapter for charging EGO batteries.
The mod will only use what it needs but must have what it needs or more supplied to it.

What if they still used the cheap adapter but not allow the batteries to be charged all the way to prevent over charging? Like disconnect at 80 percent or something. Sorry if this question is dumb. Just a newb here and kinda asking for myself in a way.

That still wouldn't be good. Think of trying to force too much through from the beginning - not just at the end. Bad through and through and eventually WILL be a problem. Never play with safety.

Just buy a 4-battery charger designed for 18650s and enough sets of batteries so you always have fresh ones. Then just forget about it. I have three mods that I use consistently and around 7 sets of matched batteries (always keep the same batteries together). The only thing I need to worry about is to always rotate the batteries rather than taking them right from the charger to the mod. Otherwise you have fully charged batteries sitting around growing stale. Battery charger is around $20 - $25.

im with zeeter on this one.

please buy yourself a NiteCore Q4. link here: https://charger.nitecore.com/product/q4
they are fairly affordable on 18650batterystore.com from what i remember.

they are safe and plug directly into wall/power bank outlets. quick charging. even faster charging using only the 1st and 4th slot. fits all sorts of batteries.

ive ruined a fairly expensive mod by using passthrough charging before :( although it might have been due to faulty manufacturing... just tryna look out for fellow VUers. :) <3

You should never use a wall adaptor that has a lower amperage rating the the mod you are trying to charge needs to draw ...doing so is a fire hazard

If the adaptor has a higher voltage rating than the mods rating you could damage the mod

It is better to use a dedicated external charger, or try to match the specs of the mod, failing that adaptive wall adaptors should be fine... xtar does them among others out there

It's not half bad, but still I much prefer the Nitecore UMS4. https://charger.nitecore.com/product/ums4

amusingly, this is an ancient thread - and wallwarts/usb work fine in emergencies. Note 'emergencies".. Everyone with mods knows to charge in an external charger; everyone with mods is aware of classy mods that can be trusted - and they still minimize usb charging.

The idea that this is still remotely a topic is depressing.

Eventually everything gets discussed again, new people join wanting to learn and so it goes, not a bad thing reviving a thread if it helps peeps

I suppose, but I wish they'd notice the datestamps and ask if there are any changes in the very widespread experiences in <name some topic>.
