Hi all

I have had a cuboid with a faulty 510 sat on a shelf for a long time now and today I have finally gotten round to stripping it.

I have the old 510 out but now need to find a new better quality replacement and am seeking some advice.

Can anyone help.

Diamentions - asuming my caliper is correct.

Overall height of old 510 - 8.8mm

Height from bottom to underside of top plate - 6.9mm

Width of top plate - 11mm

Width of smooth surface under the top plate - 8.7mm

Width of rough surface at the base - 9mm

Thanks for the reply, I think only the push in type will work due to the solid mount. I have seen some on stealthvape but am not sure if they will fit, I have requested the diamentions and am waiting for a reply, I was hoping that someone else had replaced there's as I know the 510 on the cuboid is a common problem.

Not sure what you mean by this. The fat daddy goes through the top and has a nut underneath to secure it. You may find a you tube video on replacing the 510.. Worth a look.
I don't have a Cuboid so I'm only speculating and could be way off.

Any help is appreciated, thanks for responding. I have seen a video on YouTube where someone fitted a threaded type but I didn't like the look of the 510 being raised and he had to butcher the mod. If I can get a new 510 then ill fix if not then we'll ill probably put it back on the shelf. Lol

Thanks anyway PhantomOp

I could use it but would need to butcher the top section a lot and buy the correct size threader etc, just not what I'm looking for.

Your reply is appreciated though thank you.

Ok so i couldnt get a press fit replacement so i thought I would update and share what I decided to do.

So I brought a screw in 510 from fatdaddyvapes.co.uk as they also sell a drill/tap in one so thought I would give it a try.

I used the drill/tap to make the old hole larger and threaded to suit the fatdaddy 510.

My concern is how close the base nut is to the body,

should I:

1. not be worried as there is a small gap.

2. Apply some thermal paste around the outside.

3. Cut and file the the body to be above the nut and not worry about the fixing screw.

Epic Fail....

I went with the thermal paste and soldered the connector.

Quite happy with myself I went to put it back together but unfortunately the 510 protruded to far for the top to reattach to the circuit board and battery connector.

I guess I'll have to try again with a raised one.

So I decided to take my Cuboid 510 apart, it is actually spring loaded, there a very small weak spring located under the brass centre pin (Mine was rusted probably due to e-liquid ingress), once out it was easy to see why these 510's don't last long.

A tank with a long 510 pin would squash the spring and make it weaker, but there's another problem to this design. Inside the connector the brass pin is surrounded by a black Delrin insulator that is supposed to prevent the pin touching the sides of the connector, which it actually does well enough.

Underneath that is another silicon grommet that is then supposed to stop the pin hitting the bottom of the steel connector (the outer part being all one piece of metal, as can be seen in the previous pictures, the brass pin comes out the bottom through another whole) and this is the part that is likely failing. Its not stopping the pin hitting the underside of the outer connector once its push in too far the silicon grommet becomes displaced and so you get a short. So the 510 should have been better designed in hindsight unfortunately.
