using 2 coils question

I have a wismec Machina and a wismec luxotic nc, now they both came with 2 .28 caption coils I installed it on the Machina and it worked fine, I bought a bunch if different coils pre-made cause I'm not into building just yet. so I have installed .45 twisted coils in it and it hits like shit now, it takes long to heat and all is a weak hit.
MY main question is when I use two coils does that double my OHMS? so if I install one .28 ohm coils im using .28 coil but if I use both sides of the deck and put two .28 coils am I vaping at .56 ohm coil or is it still .28? or is it half .14 ohms? I can't seem to figure it out or find a direct answer.

The lower the ohms the more power it takes to heat the coils. It depends on the first coils you had installed some twisted coils have a longer ramp up time

Agree with the other two posters...Do you know what type of wire that you have? Different 'metals' also heat differently.

There's many links online to help understand this, "Ohm's Law." I use SteamEngine whenever I build. It's a great tool to read up on even if you don't build as well.

Attached is one article on Ohm Law and what you need to know, even with premade coils. :)

Hi Jen, no I don’t know what type of wire it’s a disc with like 10 different coils and the .45 are labeled twisted coil. They are labeled differently some are Clapton, alien Clapton... etc. so the .28 flat Clapton hit good but these .38 hot soft

Ok this might help. Without knowing the exact gauge of the wire used.... coil resistance has very little to do with ramp up time on a regulated mod. What you need to look at is the amount of wire being actively heated by your battery. In other words, a single core clapton (26ga kanthal clapton wrapped in 32ga stainless steel) only the 26g kanthal is being actively heated from your battery, the SS wrap is heated from the kanthal. The heavier your coil, the more power it will take to heat. More power means either you use a much higher wattage or allow for a longer ramp up.
A single core clapton will give better flavor than a twisted coil.. since the wrapped wire traps more juice. I never use twisted wire unless I have limited space and need to lower overall resistance for my mech mod coil builds.
A parallel coil, is like a twisted coil, except it is not twisted, so gives more surface area on your wick and larger clouds. A dual parrallel core clapton (2x26ga + 32ga SS wrap) gives better flavor, lowers resistance and larger clouds than a single core clapton.
Currently, I am using a 3x 28g kanthal with 32ga SS wrap for a tripple core clapton. (resistance by 1/3, and by 1/2 again for the 2nd coil) BTW... 6 wraps dual coil comes out to 0.24 ohm and I vape 90-120w. *3.0mm id*

I have also tried a framed, twisted clapton. That's 26ga + 2x28ga twisted +26ga wrapped in 32ga SS.. watch the resistance as it can get fairly low depending on your coil.

Lots of possibilities to explore. Main rule of thumb.. single wire coils = larger clouds while claptoned coils give better flavor.
Try 2x 26ga parallel and then 2x 26ga core clapton (wrapped in 32ga wire) you will notice a huge difference in flavor.

The 0.45 coil.. is that 6 wraps on a 2.5 mm inner diameter? Probably 28ga nichrome

this tool can help you figure it out as well. :)

Ok, that tells me a little more. One of my friends buys something similar. Hers is all Kanthal. But, doesn't mean yours is. Depending on who the company is, etc. Now if you are using the more exotic coils you will see the slower ramp up time. Unless it's stated on the box, I'll say more or less is a Kanthal and not Ni80 or SS.

I use SS to utilize the TC function of my mod. You can use preheat on the wattage to help with Kanthal. Just don't use Kanthal on TC. :)

just to be sure i understand correctly, the only wire that is directly heated by a given mod is the core wire, NOT the outer wraps? the core is what heats the outer wires? if so, why is this true? don't the outer wires touch the heating element BEFORE the core/s?

it seems to make sense that claptoned wires would make better flavor because the extra surface area in contact with, thus atomizing, the liquid on the wicking element. i will have to try this out myself :) thanks

A simple parallel coil of almost any gauge will ramp up quick. I don't use very many exotic coils unless I buy them some members here. You just never know what you're really getting. Unless somebody is standing behind them. In a large company Mass producing will not stand behind anything.

Actually I've gotten some coils from members here that is so beautiful I don't even want to use them. I'd like to make them into jewelry.

lol you could try to cast them in some low opacity liquid that solidifies at regular to high temperatures (according to the climate of your area of residence) and make ear rings or gauges or a necklace :)

It's the physics of electricity that it will take the path of least resistance. The core wires being larger than the wrap wire will present less resistance to the electrons flowing through it. There will be some current going through the wrap, but it's minor compared to the current going through the core wires.

Correct. The inner core wires heat from battery power, the outer wrapped wire heats by transferring heat from those core wires.
The main reason is current travels across the path of least resistance. So the wrap wire hardly carries any current since it is very thin and much higher resistance.

r-right i totally didn't forget that rule about electricity at all...
lol thanks guys
