Atty to mod connection

I dropped my vape and now my atty won't screw into the mod properly. I can pretty much just put it in and pull it out without screwing/unscrewing it. I'm not sure why this is happening. The threads don't seem to be messed up. Does anyone have an idea to why this might be happening or how I might fix this. I can still get a connection to fire the coils if I kind of push down on the atty, but it's really inconvenient. I'll probably end up buying another one, but until then, I'd like some kind of way of fixing this.
Thank you.

What device and what atty are you using?
It sounds like the threads got stripped out either on the mod or atty or both.
Have you tried a different atty to see if it will thread down?

i just had one of those mods in my hands last night.
Had it took apart and everything. But I can't for the life of me think of a reason other than the threads being the problem.
But if they had stripped out so much as to just let the the topper slide off and on then you'd obviously notice them being that trashed.
will other toppers screw on to it?

I have no idea. It's the only one i have otherwise I'd try another one. I just bought it about 3 weeks ago. That'd be crazy that the threads would be messed up from just dropping it. Looking at them they look fine, but for some reason they just don't fit together right anymore. It's really strange. It won't screw in at all. It just fits right in the mod. It has some hold but just not enough to keep a strong connection.

It's a soft metal.
It doesn't take much to damage those little threads:(
I would bet the threads on the atty are fine because they are stainless steal most likely.
One good fall and good by copper threading:(
Not nearly as bad as aluminum but still pretty soft stuff.

Copper Vs Stainless.......WINNER!!! Stainless. Bin the mod or see if you can find a replacement top cap.

I guess I should head down to a shop and try another atty and see if the top cap is really what the issue is before I order one online. Such a bummer. I hopped out of the car AT THE VAPE SHOP to get some more juice and it fell off of my lap and I didn't realize that there was a problem with my vape til I got home.

Sounds like a good idea.
If the shop don't have one you may be able to find one online

Really is a bummer man

I dropped my Kayfun / MVP 2 box and had the same prob - saw no obvious damage and Kayfun just slipped in and out the connector like it had shrunk..drove me potty. Other attys screwed in fine but not the one that was in when it fell (kayfun). Strangely enough the Kayfun is in daily use on other mods and fits perfectly....this can be quite mind boggling as you cant see any damage and they work fine elsewhere but never together again bleh !

That sucks for sure you got good sound advice though. Take it to a shop and see if a different atty will screw onto the mod and possibly see if the atty will screw onto another 510 top cap. That should tell you if the threads are bad and which ones. I read a post about a similar problem and they got a heli-coil insert for their mod and it worked out good.

copper (and aluminum threads especially) are very soft and can get out of whack really easily. I have a "sentry" mod (which is a sentinel clone that vapor beast sells and they went on sale for like 9 bucks and I grabbed it for the hell of it.) that is all aluminum and I have to use a 510/ego adaptor on it because the threads are so soft they started to wear out in just a couple weeks of "at desk only" use.

On top of checking against another mod/atty I'd get an ego/510 adaptor just to have. True they look ugly, but they will tell quick which one is the problem in a situation like this and can sometimes help extend the life of a mod of you don't mind the looks and don't leave it connected if you're putting it in your pocket or something like that as the gap between the mod/atty will be large. Provape sells the best adaptors I've found...you can get the cheaper ones somewhere else but they're 6 bucks each as they've lasted forever and have a sliding center pin where all the other ones I've found are open centers or closed. The sliding pin assures a good connection and fit with anything and as pretty much every atty made since 2013 has side airflow you don't need to worry about the open hole in the bottom for airflow unless you use an older protank or a carto or something like that....

I've even had the threads wear out on other cheaper adaptors like that I have bought or had them not fit right put the Provape ones are just a good tool to have in your vape kit. I am sorry about your mod and hope you get it worked out soon.

Sorry, I haven't been on in a while. Been busy. Still haven't had a chance to get into a shop. I looked up the adapter online, and I don't really understand how it works.

adaptors work like this...one end screws into your mod and the other end you screw your atty into....back in the vaping day everything wasn't 510 threaded so to make certain atty's work on different batteries then they were designed for you needed an adaptor. those are the "901/510" and 808/510" adaptors There are many different versions and you can still get most of them from a lot of bigger online retailers....Then, to use some things like a Drip shield you had to have adaptors that the connections were the same style because drip shields are longer than standard 510 attys with a drip shield and a "sealed" (sealed means there isn't a hole running threw the middle of the connector for airflow), you could now drip without worrying about getting juice in your battery connection. The most common adaptors you see now days are either 510/510 adaptors or ego/510 adaptors. All a 510/510 adaptor does is screw into the 510 connection on you mod and makes it longer. So if you have a mod with bad threads or an atty won't screw all the way down on it you can use a 510/510 adaptor and it can sometimes make things work.....

The most common is a ego/510 adaptor.....the purpose of these is to make ego threaded tanks and the older ego threaded atty's and cartos work on a mod that doesn't have ego threading. So if you wanted to use a mini Aerotank for example on a Nemesis mod... you would have to use an ego/510 adaptor because the nemesis is 510 threaded and the mini aerotank is ego threaded.

Hope this helps.

okay that makes sense. thanks for explaining that for me.

Update though. I stopped by a shop today and tried to see if a different atty would fit on my mod, and bingo there it is. It fit perfectly. The atty is shot though. I tried to screw it into another mod and it did the same thing as with my mod. So strangely, the copper held up better than the stainless from me dropping it. So I got a new atty (the only one they had that wasn't $90, which i thought was ridiculous). It's an IGO-W Plus and cost me about $20. So now my problem is solved and I'm never sitting it in my lap in the car again.

I drop my mod out of my lap like that getting out of the car all the time...I go threw plastic rings for kayfuns by the five pack...just tonight unlocking my front door my Vaporshark rDNA 40 fell out of my hoodie pocket and it bounced on the concrete...luckily this time it didn't bust my mod but I think I just voided my warranty and cracked another Kayfun ring....I feel your pain. I like Igo atty's....been thinking about getting an W plus since I wanted an Igo-W5 but they disappeared quick. I still use my W-4. I drilled out the holes on it they're still quite small...I use it for simple builds like .6 and up because that little thing heats up quick but for the price you can't beat the quality and flavor. I like supporting B&M's but you pay for it....every atty being 90 bucks is rediculous. Still I am glad you got things sorted out for the moment and now you have a rig again you can take time and shop and save for what you really want and still have an atty to beat up at work/around town
