My Kelpie RTA mini-review and comparison to Rebirth RTA

Just received the Kelpie RTA having been using the Rebirth RTA

I’ll start with the negatives. As has been previously mentioned in reviews, the screws that hold the coils down are crap, more specifically the Philips heads on them look like they could strip pretty easily. I was supposed to be sent one of the second batch which includes hex screws but this wasn’t the case so I’ve ordered some from amazon. Don’t get me wrong they aren’t going to strip immediately but I can see 5 or so rebuilds doing some damage.

That’s it for negatives

The whole process of fitting the coils and wicking is so easy it’s ridiculous. First time it was perfect. I used vaping with vics video as a guide and it came out perfectly. The only alteration I made was I stuffed some of the cotton into the opening of the cut out where the terminals are, just butted up to the screws themselves to ensure no liquid can get round the side (saw this tip on a video review of the tank)

Zero leaks, first time. Compare this to my experience with the rebirth RTA, which took upwards of 6 times to get right and is still quite fiddly to do in comparison.

The flavour is amazing. I even did a comparison, side by side of the two tanks, same juice, same wattage, same coils and the kelpie is better at flavour, despite the rebirth being a dual coil. Whether this holds up at higher wattages I don’t know but I went up to 60 on both and the Kelpie won out.

I think the fact the tank is so short and your mouth is so close to the deck really helps with the flavour.

Wish I’d just got this tank instead of the rebirth (not saying Rebirth’s a bad tank, just a steeper learning curve and flavour not quite as good)

The one thing I wish the kelpie did have is a screw top filling lid instead of a slide, just to eliminate the risk of it coming open in the pocket. Not a deal breaker though and the slide mechanism on the tank I’ve got is pretty tight, but I have heard of some being on the looser side.

So in summary:

Coil installation: Extremely easy despite crappy Philips head screws
Wicking: If I can do it right first time, anyone can
Filling: Easy to do but some have had loose sliding mechanisms
Drip tip: The included one is fine, I’d prefer a lower profile & the rebirths male connection is too deep to fit
Flavour: intense and surpasses the Rebirth vaping between 40-60 Watts (haven’t tried higher)
Looks: Stainless steel version looks great on my Asmodus Lustro Kodama

I’d also add that this tank is great when it comes to swapping eliquid flavours, after filling up with a new flavour after 3/4 draws the old flavour is gone completely. I went from apple and raspberry to a caramel macchiato and there was no hint of the old flavour! Wick still going strong after about a day and a half of heavy use (the caramel macchiato usually clogs up wicks/coils as it’s so sweet)
