INTRODUCTION
______________________________________________________________________________
Hello everyone, and welcome to Pizza Dave’s Vape Reviews and today I will be going over Shogun JR by iJoy. The Shogun JR is the follow up to its big brother, the Shogun. As the name suggests, this is a smaller, sleeker device than the other, but it also features an internal 4500mah battery and a maximum output of 126w. This brings me back to what Voopoo did with the Drag 2 and Drag mini. Both have similar styling, but one offers a smaller frame a reduced output. This is exactly what is going on here. Let’s dive in quick, go over the device, and as always, I will have my final thoughts down at the bottom.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Like I mentioned above, the Shogun JK is exactly what the name suggests. It is a smaller version of the Shogun with a few small changes. The first noticeable change is the size. It is about 8mm shorter, 5mm less in depth, and 3 mm less in width. It isn’t a huge difference, but it is very noticeable. One other stylistic change is that both the sides have removable resin paneling. Unlike the regular shogun, which had only a removable battery door, the JR has the ability for panels to be flip flopped with other panels to change the look up a bit. We don’t see this often on built-in battery mods, but I will gladly take it. Both doors do have a tiny bit of wiggle, but you really have to be intentionally testing this to even notice it. The weight of this is quite solid, as the built in 4500mah battery adds some heft to it. Overall, I really like the look of this and it is a little more pocket friendly than the rather tall Shogun.

OPERATION
The Shogun JR uses essentially the same chipset as the Shogun, with a drop in wattage from 180 to 126. The UNIV chip has proven to be rather decent for me. I had very few gripes with it. One of the only cons I would conclude is that the chip does not wake up when pressing adjustment buttons. It will stay dark until the fire button is hit. Not really a con, as this is an extra step in making the adjustment, thus making accidental pocket adjustments a thing of the past. It is just something you may notice.
Since this chip was used on the Shogun, I already had a write up for operation…..this is a copy and paste from that review.

With the inclusion of a .96” screen, navigation and operation of this device is a breeze. I like the way the main display and menu systems are displayed and found that it was a simple device to power up out of the gate and navigate freely with no need to scroll through the manual. There are a few quirks to some of the menu and operation settings like many mods have, and I will touch on these lightly now.

BUTTON COMBOS
The first, and most common of several mods out there is 5 clicks of the fire button will turn the device on and off. Pressing the up and down buttons together briefly will lock the entire device out, performing a long press will read the resistance of the attached atomizer. The last button combo to know is 3 clicks of the fire button enters the menu system.
MENU SYSTEM
The menu system on the Shogun JR isn’t bad at all. Sure, the icons are abbreviations, but it is easy to figure out as you go.

HOW IT VAPES
The how it vapes section is mostly going to be comprised of how I felt this operated as a kit, but I did dabble with some higher power testing as well as MTL testing. For starters, I felt like the mod performed just as good as the Shogun. The power output was on point, and it is a nice mod to use. When combined with the included tank, I had no issues getting through a full day of battery when rocking it at 70-75w. Ramp up is minimal and they work well together. I saw a slight drop off in battery life when I decided to run it hard with some 90w rdas on top. I was just going for some hard testing of the mod here, as this normally wouldn’t be how I use this. Battery drops out rather quick, but the power output was still there until it was well below half. As for TC, I didn’t test this with the Shogun JR. I had assumed that the result would be good being it was good on the UNIC chip of the Shogun. I will just leave it at that.
One thing I really enjoyed about this was how well it paired with MTL atomizers. I tossed both the Zlide and the Berserker Mini 1.5 on here and really enjoyed it. Smaller, low powered MTL setups just work great on built-in battery mods in my opinion.

SHOGUN TANK REVIEW
The Shogun tank looks to be a great match on top of the JR. The colors blend perfectly, and it isn’t too big or bulky. However, once the looks wear out, I just wasn’t feeling this tank. For whatever reason, the vape that this provides is rather dry. I have this happen with some tanks, and it is what it is. Flavor seems ok when it sits for a bit, but in no time, the flavor reduces, and it has an odd dryness to the vape. I really couldn’t crave any liquid I had in this thing. On the bright side, the coil life seems to be right up there with the best mesh out there. It also has a nice top cap which feels secure and offers large fill holes.
