HIC,
Thanks for the response! I do have a couple of comments; My understanding is that while FA's Butter actually had diacetyl, ( I moved my FA Butter to the kitchen to make kickass popcorn) I believe the TFA butter doesn't have diacetyl but it like English Toffee has Acetoin and aceltyl propionyl which I realize are to be avoided.
I try to avoid all those but only if I can do it and still maintain as good of experience!
I am 71 years old and don't have a record of doing the safe thing! Up until 6 months ago I was inhaling a pack and a half of cigarette sized cigars a day, I ride motorcycles at over 150 mph, I build and fly experimental airplanes! I'm not advocating anything for others but for me there would probably be more important risk reduction steps than eliminating a little Acetoin and aceltyl propionyl!

I didn't state an opinion and won't - because honestly it's completely irrelevant. I just quoted the figures for anyone who is interested. FA Butter has 2% diacetyl. TFA English Toffee has up to 1.5% Acetoin + acetyl propionyl. There are plenty of other threads debating pros/cons of vaping each of those. Can we please not debate personal opinions on "safety" in this thread, too -- and just let everyone decide for themselves? As always, everyone can vape or avoid whatever they want with no judgement from me. Anyone concerned about various ingredients, I'm always happy to help research and find what I can.

I'm talking to them, HIC. I'm just not sure I understand what they're saying. Do I need to learn Italian?

Bread Crust curses at me in Italian, lol!

I just mean that you won't find out what your flavors are capable of if you don't use them. Experiment a little. Something that curls your nose as a standalone flavor might be the finishing touch on a masterpiece.

Hic,
I totally agree with everything you stated but want to point out that I just pointed out a flavor that would nicely complement what was desired! It was You that brought out all the safety concerns!
I cerrtainly don't want to get crosswise with You since You've helped me so much and I'm in awe of your gift for figuring out mixes!

I like that HIC lets us know which flavorings have the bad stuff. Then it is up to me if I use them or not. Being informed is a good thing:) I have learned so much from this thread and the other thread that shall not be named lol. Please keep up the good info HeadInClouds some of us do not have the patience that you seem to have in abundance:D

A recipe to pucker your cheeks and sweeten your lips for the party tonight.

Happy New Year
4% Bilberry FA
4% Sweettart TFA
3% Raspberry FA
3% Sour TFA
2% Mad Fruit 2%
0.5% Cola FA

Over the top? Yeah! New Years Eve is always over the top, and you deserve it. Okay,
back to reality.

The two fruits provide the sweetness and need to be strong to complement the
sweettart and the sour. You can switch out any sweet fruits you wish to.

The mad fruit? The main reason it's in there is I started this a few weeks ago and
never had a reason to pull it out. By itself it wasn't tart enough.

Cola adds a bit of fizz to the mix.

Mix it this morning and pop the cork at midnight. It'll be ready. Steeping a week
only makes it better.

This is my fourth version of this and the best yet. If you have any suggestions for
it please post post them.

Enjoy.

Over on that old forum I met a real DIY hero.

This DIYer (I'll call C) was not a smoker and did not vape. C was caretaker to a smoker who could not quit, despite surgery and disease. After researching vaping, C set out to DIY tasty e-liquids without using compounds deemed hazardous to this lung disease victim. C followed that thread a while and contacted me with ingredient questions on recipes I posted. We corresponded just briefly, and I'll never know if the limited info I could provide proved useful or not.

While C was not a typical forum member, many seek to avoid certain flavoring compounds - most commonly, diacetyl/subs - sometimes out of medical necessity. Some don't want to post publicly; some PM members for info; some just never ask. With such vapers in mind, I often post known info/links when I mention those flavorings. It isn't intended to provoke debate or raise safety concerns among those who don't need/want to take harm reduction to that level. It's just a public service type message: irrelevant to many, of interest to some, vital information for a few. I have learned that those who really need that info often gravitate to this thread, so that's why I include disclaimers when I discuss flavors with "custard notes" here so often. Who knows, C or another DIY hero could be reading.

Please don't sell yourself short, HIC. Many on this thread (and the other) have empowered smokers to take control of their lives. The knowledge, skill, artistry, attitude and generosity found here have given THOUSANDS of people the encouragement they needed to inexpensively create a much better alternative to tobacco products. To hell with Mastercard. The Flavourart/Purevapes threads are priceless. You, HIC, are one of the posters who have made it so. It makes me sad to see unscrupulous people steal recipes from this thread, reprint them elsewhere with no credit or use them for their own personal gain.

I have been a thrill-seeking, adrenaline junky for most of my life. I have often looked fear straight in the eye and jumped off of that bridge or out of that airplane, started that new business or up and quit that horrible job. Yet, something made me extremely hesitant. Having failed over and over again at leaving smoking behind me, utilizing the best that modern medicine has to offer, I guess I feared failing again at what I perhaps considered my last chance. I watched my mother fail of COPD (Emphysema), slowly and painfully after smoking for well over 50 of her 72 1/2 years. She made me promise to stop smoking. Almost two years ago, she reminded me of that promise as she lay dying in my arms...

Perhaps it's the community/camaraderie that reminds us we're not alone; that we don't have to go through this alone; that others are facing the same challenges; that there's hope to what many of us considered hopeless. Or maybe it's just the fabulous recipes, advice and chuckles. I haven't purchased a pack of cigarettes since the end of June. Have I bummed a couple along the way? Unfortunately yes, the last was Christmas day after too much cheer. But the journey continues.

I'd love to thank everyone of you heroes here by name but fear forgetting someone. So just let me say THANK YOU!

May you all have a healthy, prosperous and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thought I'd follow up on my Yogurt and Melon experiment. Where I'm at now...

Yogurt (FW) 4%
Cantelope (TFA) 4%
Watermelon (INW) 1.5%
Organic Ginger (NF) 0.5%
Marshmallow (FA) 0.5%
Nut Mix (FA) 0.5%
Lime Tahiti (FA) 0.5%

The Ginger might be at 1%. I had a drop run down the side so went with another to make sure I had it in there.
Gonna let it lie for a while as I'm starting to think of other fruits to add, like fig kiwi or mango. Too many choices swirling in my head.

Happy New Year, everyone!! Haven't had much time during the holidays to check in here, but I wish each and every one of you a happy, healthy, prosperous and (hopefully) smoke-free 2015. I give credit to all the fine folks in this forum for helping to keep me off the stinkies, so thank you!! June 2015 will be two years for me :)

Ha ha . . . is it bad that tonight I'm kind of missing past New Year's Eve celebrations with loud, raucous parties, loads of champagne, and Sobranie Cocktail cigarettes? :D

Hello guys! Happy New Year, first of all. My first post here, been a long time learner from this group.

Along with these information sharing about the safety of some ingredients, I do worry that acetylpyrazine do have great potential of toxicity. A quick google scholar search and a close friend with advanced degree in pharmacy do confirm. For all the knowledge you guys have given, it is a risk worth taking to bring up discussion on this.

http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0,5&q=acetylpyrazine

This particular paper is open access:

Multiple Mechanisms for Cytotoxicity Induced by Copper(II) Complexes of 2-Acetylpyrazine-x- substituted Thiosemicarbazones

Hello All, have been lurking on this forum for a while, reading good things about purevapes so i placed an order but unfortunately its not been a good experience, its been more than 2 weeks since i placed the order and it still hasnt been shipped, when i emailed them about a week ago i got a response that it will be shipped tomorrow and things are slow because of holidays! well more than a week after that and its still not shipped.
hearing such good things about them i was expecting a more positive experience, not complaining just giving a heads up to others who read this thread and decide to order from them. I mean i can understand that things are slow during holidays but thats the reason other sites are closed and they mention it specifically on the site so people know what to expect.

BTW a lot of solid info on this forum, thanks everyone for that........and HIC!!! you are my hero!!!!!!

@yyose , Thank you and your pharmacist friend for the links. I looked briefly for studies on acetyl pyrazine, long ago, and never found anything useful. I'll mark these to study when my New Year's brainfog clears.

Awww, damn. I hate to read about PureVapes having bad service, and I'm very sorry my recommendation doesn't hold true any more. When I used PureVapes, they were really awesome vendors, super quick and inexpensive shipping. I'd recommend eliquidmart's 5ml ($1.69) sample size FA now. I've been happy with their shipping speed, packaging, and price, through several orders the past (6? 9?) months. When I order early in the week, it arrives a couple days later. I think they take weekends off, though; late Friday orders seem to sit until Monday. I hope your PureVapes order shows up soon, so you can get to mixing!

I think some companies aren't shipping much during the holidays. That would be OK if they would just say so on their websites. I placed an order on 12/21 with ecigexpress due to their coupon. No sign of it shipping yet. I'm going to talk to their live support as soon as they wake up on the west coast.

HIC nothing for you to feel bad about, things change with time but i must say your recommendations hold a lot of weight!!!! man so many long nights i have browsed thru your posts taking in as much as i could, its like i already know you :)
I must sincerely thank you for being who you are.....much love from the other side of the world :)

i placed 2 big orders at ecigexpress and they were both shipped extremely quick.I am quite impressed by thier service tho i have read otherwise.
i didnt mean to bitch about purevapes, they have very good international shipping rates which is a big plus for ppl like me cuz usually i have to consolidate my orders locally in USA and then have em shipped to me...which needs me to be patient.

Ohhhhh - international shipping! I'm sure that can throw a wrench in the works.

maybe but posting something locally or internationally is the same, its only the time it takes in shipping that should be longer.
but no harm done....i have bunch of stuff that i need from eliquidmart.......and i see they have cucumber in stock!! havent come across anything from you that uses cucumber...or am i wrong?

I don't think I've ever posted a recipe with it, but I liked it plain on a hot day, with melon flavors, or with Black Pepper. I seldom use it, really.

A couple cocktails have caught my eye, like this one: http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/cucumber-basil-martini (Zen Garden for basil; I've also seen a cucumber gimlet). Some day I'll get Tomato and try to make a V8 type thing.

+1 for eliquidmart. I love their 5ml samples and have always received shipments quickly and leak free. Plus, the 5ml samples last me a while since I'm only mixing for me!

Coupon alert! Just got this from Nude Nicotine: Use the coupon code "HappyNudeYear25" for 25%-off the Average Nudist, Basic, and Premium starter kits - now through 1/7/14 @ 11:59PM (Cannot be used in conjunction with other coupons)

Not trying to push NN, but thought I'd pass it on to anyone who may want to start DIY in 2015. Not a bad deal for all the stuff you get (nicotine included) in those kits.

Hey fruit fans! Wanna turn your bowl-of-fresh-fruit into a familiar juice blend flavor?
Hi All and Happy New Year! I don't often chime in as I'm more of a lurker, but I wanted to say thanks to all for the many great recipes that you've shared. I just mixed up the recipe below (been wanting something fruity - reminiscent of a good fruit drink) and I've gotta say that this hits all the right spots! Thank you HIC! FWIW...I doubled your flavor percentage recommendations and it came out great!

Ocean Spray Pineapple Peach Mango
2% FA Apple
1% FA White Grape
3% CAP Golden Pineapple
3% CAP Sweet Mango
3% JF Honey Peach

Shake and vape YUM!

I mixed a lime & banana cream cheesecake-graham flavor and overdid the lime a bit. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to tone down the unbearably strong citrus-throat-hit I'm getting? I did not use FA flavors for this, but was hoping someone here might have a sort of "general-use" solution for this type of problem..

I've already tried diluting the whole thing with unflavored--this helped because I over-flavored it to begin with. But the lime, which I normally love and which goes so well with banana cream...it's at the right flavor level for me overall, but is just burning, burning, burning!

I've don't have proven answers but can give my thoughts!
1) Give it some time; my experience has been that TFA or FA lemons or limes loose potency within a week!
2) Thy it at a lower wattage!
3) Add some Vienna, Bavarian or Catalan Cream.

Good Luck

LOL...true, it's my recipe, but it was inspired by your post, hence I gave you credit ;)

Ohhhh, when we were talking about how to do fruit juice flavors! I remember now (with the aid of the handy 'back arrow' you included).
I'm sorry; I left some brain cells back in 2014, but my 'duh' is out in full force today.

I'm glad that method worked for you. I did a couple with White Grape and/or Pear, following the ingredients on real juice, and I was pretty happy with the results, too.

(ps - that's just some crossed wires with kabalm18, who I can attest is truly not a rude person)

Thanks Kabalm, no worries. I'm no good with names. Most of my recipes are labeled #1, #2, #3, etc. Not real original, but it works for me, lol :p

:( I meant it as a shout out to HIC more than anything...I didnt even think about your feelings.

On a side note...I really need to get the white grape and regular apple so I can make some good fruit juices...starting with yours!!!
