Rba decks

So I have a couple of rba decks for Smok tanks I have not used yet. At risk of sounding like a new vaper, do I dry burn to make sure the coils are firing evenly? Or do I just wick and go? I use mostly rda's but these are spaced coils. And now that I bring it up. Do I have to use spaced coils? That is what comes with the decks but can I use the ones I make myself?

Pretty sure you dry burn like always to get any hot spots out. But spaced or Co tact coils should be fine

Only "leaks" I get are when I go "retro" and dig out an older RTA.. That's one of the reasons I ditched them - I got tired of it all.

When squonking, only "leaks" are from bad designs. and I ditch those.

My feeling is: if the design requires a magic exact-quantity N of cotton/rayon, which will PEE when x<N and dry-hit when x>N.. It's time to find an alternative. I give things maybe 3 tries, and watch at least 2 or 3 rebuild videos.

Failure after that means "goodbye".

You can use any coils that will fit in an rba deck in tanks. Spaced or not is fine. It's all about the wick. I always dry burn coils just to be safe. The only time my tanks leak is if I drop one and the wick shifts.
Protip: If you vape at high watts, you'll want a slightly thinner wick. Too thick and you'll get dry hits.

Good luck. Once you get builds down for your specific tank, store bought coils will seem like junk in comparison. I'd suggest checking out some vids on your specific tank to see what works best. Some tanks can be finicky, others not so much.

Well said, yes.

Take a note of the inner diameter of the supplied coils (if you are not an experienced RBA head user) because getting it wicked properly is going to be far easier with the same ID in future. Generally it's 2 or 2.5mm. These are the size it is meant for so you will get roughly the right amount of wick through them to use the RTA efficiently. Once you are an expert you can mess around with others and get the wicking to work for anything that will fit in there (if you want to) but in the beginning stick to the same size.

Which tanks and RBAs do you have? I've used the TFV12 and the Smok Spirals/Spirals Plus, and there's a big difference between the two. Spirals has never leaked a single bit. The Prince, on the other hand...

Bbb and Prince rba's. The bbb does not leak, usually. The Prince idk. Haven't tried it

Funny you bring this up now.

The flavor is way better in the BBB with the RBA than the Prince with it's RBA. However, about an hour ago I took a triangular (Point down) piece of single coil insert and plugged the middle of the Prince RBA deck thus transforming that gaping canyon into a dual airflow deck and it improved the flavor an hundredfold.

Generally, the Smok RBA decks are surprisingly good. Both the BBB and the Prince decks can be a hair tricky to wick. You need enough cotton to fill the gap between the posts, but not stuffed in there either or you could get some dry hits. The ports are pretty small, so unless you use like 2mm coils you'll need to thin the ends a bit, but don't thin them too high because you do need enough to fill that gap between the posts or you'll get some leaking. Also they need to be shorter than you're likely to think at first.

Not bad to wick, but they do like their wicks a certain way. Sounds more complicated than they are.

I honestly don't get any leaking with the Prince RBA. I have 2 and have used them quite a bit. Not trying to be argumentative ,but I really don't.

Would not take it as argumentative, everyone's experience isn't the same. I would ask you how you're wicking the Prince RBAs, but I don't have them any more. Rick here might want to ask you one of these days, though! :D
