Is it safe to vape with this coil I built?

I'm building a coil(s) for the first time, using a 24 gauge wire.
I noticed after doing the wraps that the wire is thinner than the coil's I've bought before.
More so, the resistance is 0.12 and when I tried to turn off the mod, it of course, sent current through the coil, but only for an instant. I then touched the coil and it was hot (enough to make me recoil away)
It made me question whether its even safe to vape with this coil, because if for an instant it becomes hot, then I wonder what can happen when I send current through for 2 seconds as I usually do for an average puff.
I'd also like to note that the coils I've bought before were "claptons" whatever that means, so they weren't just wires wrapped, they were the fancy kind.
I'm using Zeus RTA as the atomizer and an Aegis Legend as the mod.

What material wire? I'm on a zues as i type.
.22 ohms at 60w
Forget what my build is but if I'm not mistaken its a fused clapton 2x28ni80/36ss316
I got a great vape..
24 Is a thick wire so you need power

I don't know.
But you say 24 is thick, how come it seems really thin compared to claptons?
Is that normal?

Claptons Are a plain wire wrapped by another. No disrespect but I'd suggest getting to know your coils before building your decks. It's probably safe...Atleast the simple ones..

Claptons are wire wrapped in thinner wire, maybe a 26ga wrapped in 36 or 38ga. What you're used to is two wires, if you have 24 gauge round wire it would be thinner than the claptons you're used to, but the claptons main wire is thinner, if that makes sense.

@bx10r is right, basic 24ga is going to need some power to get it hot.

A lot of regulated mods won't fire under .12 ohms. Go to steamengine.com enter your wire type, kanthal, ni80, etc. gauge and inner diameter of the coil and you can play around with the wraps and I.d to get a coil at the resistance you want. Personally, if I were you I'd pick up a spool of Clapton wire if that's what you're used to.

Keep in mind that the higher the number (26) is thinner than a lower number (24)

You are using a regulated mod, so if it fires, it is relatively safe. Remember, we don't consider anything 100% safe, shit happens ya know, but normally, 0.12 is safe enough. Most mods I used will not fire under 0.10.

Oh ok I see guys, thanks for the info.
Vapor production is big with these wires, so I like that.
Flavor is not there for some reason, maybe cause I didn't prime the coils correctly.

You'll find with experience that you can completely change or improve flavor with coil positioning. Hint - you need air flow hitting under the coil.

I have been studying coils as well..
and stumbled across this

and in conjunction with this

and this

think my chances of fire may be minimized...

yet am going to sit over here with the fire extinguisher and watch you first..

Also the coils will heat a lot faster without cotton and juice. When building and installing you heat the the coil to get hot spots out and make sure it's heating evenly.
