So picked up the Thermal Expansion Tank this morning and needed to buy a Pressure Gauge to Test the Source Pressure to adjust the tank pressure. Was thinking I might need an Air Tank or Bicycle Pump but comes pressurized so not required. Hardest part was draining the water from the bladder side.

Did the water heater work this morning and then went for some fresh hot Italian loaves for lunch. Had myself a nice Meatball Hero with the leftover meatballs from my last sauce. Did the daily phone and Computer BS before taking a ride to clear my head. Stopped at park and chatted with a friend before passing by the GF's to make sure the bad Thermal Expansion Tank did not damage the PRV. Now it is well deserved Wine Time~!

Got a couple of the brake lines replaced. Found the abs pump was along the frame, easier to get to than above the driveshaft so no fighting that at least. Also got a feel for the nicopp, first time fiddling with it. A lot easier to bend than standard steel or stainless line. Also was dreading the lines, most parts just come with a generic warning flyer. Figured I'd have to go hunting which line went where but surprisingly they had a nice chart on the back telling which part number was for what. This shit looked like a bad puzzle.

If there's any con, it's that there's a little more length than the originals but I'd rather have too much than have it come up short. Hoping to get the lines done while waiting for the axle seal and diff cover gasket and crap to show up. Just kinda taking my time with it, some of the twists and turns are tight and I really don't want to kink this stuff. If it lives up to the hype it'll be the last set put on. Already have 2 sets to pull off where they've been replaced before.

I feel like I pulled a nifty 'community chest' card from the monopoly stack. "Shipping error in your favor, receive packages a week early". So I'd ordered more crap to fix the truck, was showing one package (wiper blades) would show up yesterday and in another 5 days or so the rest of it (what I really needed). Surprise, they both showed up.

Axle seal, diff fluid, cover gasket and rtv showed up. Got the axle back in and holy shit, got the right seal and right gasket. Winning. Was a bit concerned about it, even though the part number seemed right. Votes were 50/50 whether or not it was the proper size from customer reviews so I was skeptical. Even more surprised that I got the replacements needed to get the axle back in and it didn't even rain on everything. Now I'm getting nervous, things are going too smoothly. lol. Now I can finally finish up the brake job that got put on hold and once I get the rear wheels on the ground can yank the fronts to finish routing the brake lines. So long as I can keep any additional fuckery at bay, life will be good.

So finally got all the parts and now have a 100% New Electronics Sololift Patient Lift for emergencies. Biggest problem was getting it up to the second floor but I had a long time friend help me out. 1st battery and charger they sent was a defect so they overnight shipped me new ones and a fuse to replace in the original battery. So I wound up with 2 batteries and chargers now. I have to take apart the charger to see if I can fix the LED's but it still charges without the lights.

After dinner I was relaxing and realized my glasses were not in the case~! So after checking where I might have put them down and my vehicle I drove to everywhere I was with them. Checked the Gas Station because I had filled up before I came home. When I asked the guy if someone turned any in he Oh Yes here and they were the same shape~! But not mine~! Fuck! Checked every place I was and on the way home I remembered I was in the garden and there was a tomato on the ground which I picked up. So in the dark with my Nitecore Key-chain flashlight they lit up like diamonds~! Relieved and really giving myself some good name calling~!

So after doing the lawns and picking some tomatoes I go to do a Lube, Oil and Filter change on my vehicle and I start getting a Service Soon light for a P0171 Bank 1 Lean O2 sensor and can't find a problem. All Data looks good so I cleaned the Throttle Body and it has not come back. Going to take a ride and go to Long Beach for Dinner so I will see if I need to do some work. While greasing the front end I notice a broken Stabilizer link so I guess that was that loud noise I heard the other night looking for my glasses~! LMAO. Glad I had the parts in stock because I took them off my last truck after it got totaled. They were brand new and the Neoprene Ones not the cheap rubber ones. Now going to shower and drive my nice cleaned truck down to the water and maybe do a little driving on the sand.

Remember when I said things were going too smooth? Ah well, indeed fuckery was afoot. Was putting rotors on, felt like a real tight fit and thought well, new parking brake shoes, new rotors. Bound to be snug. Got the one rotor on, started to get the caliper on at least tight enough to pull the slide pins and get them lubed better. Caliper wouldn't fit over the rotor. Hmm. Maybe they coated the remans a little heavy, so did a little filing on the calipers inside. Still way too tight, wouldn't fit. Then looked over on the backside where the mount bolts go through, the tabs with the mount holes on the caliper are a good 1/4" or more away from resting flush where they should. Not near enough room on the inboard side.

So I go digging through the parts numbers, cross reference with the website.. ugh. Single piston calipers (what came off the truck), dual piston rotors. I knew there was a slight difference, 330mm diameter for the dual piston rotors and 325mm for single piston variety. Really hoping there's a thickness difference involved (not listed in specs). So have new rotors coming. And naturally they're like $11-12 more per rotor than the ones I originally got.

In all fairness could've been my blunder. With all the options, varying rear end sizes, multiple caliper/rotor options. Still would've been nice had the order tossed a red flag like 'hey, just so you know.. some of these parts aren't compatible'. Instead I got green checks "exact match, this part fits your vehicle". Yea, does it though? I knew the fun wasn't over, my life is governed by Murphy's Law. lmao. Never enough coffee.

Well I had to take it apart and bring it down from the second floor today~! Paid for itself with a one time usage.

I had to order a Fuel Tank Filler Neck for my truck before I can continue with the diagnosis. And man that is one expensive piece of fucking Metal and Rubber~! I only need the tube but you must buy 3 pieces as an assembly.

Was hoping I'd get to finish the job without needing a shop, turns out I was wrong. I suspected the abs might be a pain in the ass, it is. Going to have to have a shop finish bleeding the brakes with a scan tool, yay automation. The place I got it inspected at said they could do it for $40-50, sure beats $230+ for a scanner that may or may not work. Or damaging a $350 abs pump. Some said the abs solenoids could be activated with 12v and I have a power probe. Just not sure how long the electrical pulses are normally and don't want to burn up the solenoids.

New (and hopefully right) rotors show up tomorrow so hopefully that'll get me on my way. Cherry on top, it's looking impossible to get the brake lines over the frame rail so have to disconnect the cab and jack it up off the frame to get them in there. Why not, right? Oh there will be plenty of vaping in the driveway tomorrow I'm sure. No porch vaping for me lmao.

What's up with the cart Steve, looks like a medical sling but also kinda looks like a cherry picker. lol. Is it for physical therapy or hoisting people in and out of bed?

It is a Sololift Patient Lift which I got on Craigslist for free but needed repair. After Diagnosis it needed all electrical components but did not come with a charger or sling. Dad fell again the other day so I used to to stand him up again. Even though I spent almost $1,200 that machine costs $6,000.

Got the rotors in yesterday, right ones this time. Much better fit, the dead space and vanes between friction surfaces is a lot narrower. Got the driver's side put together, just about done with the passenger side (ran out of light). Took longer than I expected, for whatever reason the rotor didn't want to go on. New ebrake shoes coupled with new rotor hat means an extremely tight fit. I checked the ebrake lever arm, it was fully retracted. Checked the adjuster, it was wound in as far as it'd go. Around a dozen or more attempts, getting the rotor stuck on the ebrake shoe (bound up wheel). Sanded the shoe lining a little and tried wearing down the inside of the rotor hat several times, finally got it on there. Would've given a 120ml bottle of juice for access to a brake lathe, could've shaved it down a whole lot quicker.

Just a couple bolts to finish tightening and the wheels go back on. Then I can lift the front, jack up the cab and finish the hardlines. Not an ideal work area but since that's where the truck landed, it'll do. lol

Waiting on the Fuel Filler Neck assembly for my Blazer last I looked was supposed to be here today. Waiting for my coffee to track it.

So I pulled the tank and found a different connector for the Fuel Pump so I had to call my buddy at the Parts Store to look it up because my research showed the Fuel Pump Module comes with a Harness. So I went looking to see if I still had the old one I took out and then decided to look at the one I took out of my old vehicle that got totaled. Turns out the harness end was changed and I found Crimp Connectors under tape in the harness I had cut when I took the fuel tank out of the old truck. I don't remember changing the harness but I had the correct connector so I cut and soldiered the wires then used shrink tubing and silicone to make the waterproof. Good thing I took the Harnesses~!

So after changing the Fuel Module I now have 3-4 Lbs more fuel pressure but still sticking codes P0171 & P0174 after a short stop and heat soak. If I scan the live data I can't see a problem but thinking of changing all the O2 Sensors tomorrow. Checked the MAF Sensor and Fuel Pressure is Optimum plus not Vacuum Leaks. Any GM Technicians care to chime in I will listen~!

You sure you don't have any vacuum leaks? Is there a rough idle or anything or does it feel sluggish? You mentioned GM but not sure what exactly you're working on. Maybe try spraying carb cleaner around the engine and see if it throttles up at all (obviously away from the air intake). What coolant is in it, dexcool? I know it's unlikely that both intake manifolds would be leaking but dexcool is nasty shit and notorious for intake manifold leaks.

Highly doubtful both O2 sensors shit the bed. Have you cleaned the MAF? A quick spritz with brake cleaner should help if it's dirty, let it dry real good. I mean it could be the O2's but they rarely go bad on their own and are indicative of another issue. Some vacuum leaks can be a royal pia to find even with a smoke machine. Don't suppose you've got access to one do you? Maybe double check the pcv and all the rubber lines depending how old they are. Another possibility, could be the computer but more than likely a vacuum leak you haven't discovered yet leaning everything out.

Not sure how well you can see around the intake manifolds, try and check the gaskets with a flashlight and see if you can spot any built up orange gunk from the dexcool. May be as simple as new intake manifold gaskets.

Speaking of, still waiting on more parts for mine. I figured there'd be some crust around the bleeder screws on the front calipers, what I hadn't anticipated was someone before hand decided to molest them with vise grips. The one on the driver's side is damn near smashed into an oval. Ugh. Got the lines in though. I'll be glad not to have to do that again anytime soon. I'll get the taillight lens replaced and the rearview mirror reattached tomorrow while waiting on the bleeders to get here.

I changed the O2 Sensors because of their age. The one behind the Cat failed an O2 Test. But definitely no Vacuum Leaks because I have sprayed carb cleaner and changed some vacuum lines that did not raise the idle with a spray but were soft. I think I found the problem yesterday while doing a drive cycle I got the P0171 and P0174 again when decelerating so I ran a Fuel Pressure Test again and although the pump delivers proper pressure when running regulator lower pressure too much. No leak down so going to just change the regulator.

I actually changed the PCV just for the hell of it as it is less than $5 and I spent the Money for CRC MAF Cleaner. Also since pulling at straws I bought a New MAF so I could keep the GM one for a back up.

So I located a Delphi Fuel Pressure Regulator this morning but didn't get a chance to do it until after lunch. After pulling the Upper Plenum and removing the Injector Assembly when I took out the regulator it came out in 3 pieces. So at that point I figured I got it this time. After reassembling the upper half of the Intake when I initially primed the pump I could see the difference in the Fuel Pressure. At first because of air in the system the pressure was bleeding down which at first made me think I messed up the Injector assembly but after I ran it for a bit it holds fine. Took it for a Road Test and NO SES Light so right now it is heat soaking and I will take it for another ride in a bit. To do the drive cycle I need to get to the highway fast in the AM so that will have to wait. I need to get a few more of the Readiness Monitors to run the tests and then I can go for my inspection.

The weird thing was my Station was out of stickers and then this happened. First started with an Evap Code which I found the filler neck had rotted out. And people wonder why I got out of the Auto Repair Business~??

Doing the drive cycle in one serious Pain In The Fucking Ass~!

Even after all the years I worked in the Automotive Industry the smell of gasoline on my hands is driving me batty~! Washed my hands with Boraxo Powdered hand cleaner and Irish Spring so many times my hands are dried out like leather and still smell gas.

This are the steps for the Readiness Monitors that is the biggest PITA to complete~! NYS Allows one monitor to not be in a ready state to pass the Emissions Inspection.

IDLE TIME: Run engine (do not drive) for 2 1/2 minutes with the air conditioner on and rear defroster on. During this period the ECU will be running the Oxygen Sensor Heater self-test, Air Injection System Passive Air test, EVAP Purge "No Flow" test, Misfire Detection.

ACCELERATE: Turn off the air conditioner and rear defroster and begin driving. As soon as possible apply half throttle until 55mph is reached. The ECU will now run self-tests on the Misfire Detection, Fuel Trim, and EVAP Purge Flow.

HOLD STEADY: Now hold your speed steady at 55mph for three minutes. During this time the Oxygen Sensor O2 response, Air Intrusive (AIS System), EGR Flow, Purge Valve, Misfire Detection, and Fuel Trim diagnostics will be performed.

DECELERATE: During this step you want to slowly let off the accelerator pedal. Do not brake or shift in order to slow down (don't press the clutch if equipped). It is important to let the vehicle coast along gradually slowing down to 20 mph. The ECU will once again self-test the EGR System, EVAP Purge System and Long Term Fuel Trims.

ACCELERATE: Go ahead and accelerate again at 3/4 throttle until 55-60mph is reached. This will perform the same self tests as during the first acceleration step.

HOLD STEADY: Hold steady speed once again. This time at 55mph for five minutes. During this time, in addition to running the self-tests as during the first HOLD STEADY step, the ECU will perform the catalyst monitor diagnostics. If the catalyst (Catalytic Converter) is marginal or the battery has been disconnected, it may take 5 complete driving cycles to determine the state of the catalyst,or in order to Complete the CAT Monitor.

DECELERATE: This will perform the same diagnostics as in the first Deceleration. Remember not to press the brakes or shift gears (don't press the clutch if equipped).

So far I have done this 4 times and no test or still not ready state. Starting to get pissed off~! As far as I know the AIR does not work unless you have an over night cool. Never heard the AIR System work before that. The Evap has not completed which I know is the one which requires the most conditions to be 100%. If I could get the rest to go I would be good to go but I won't bring it for Inspection unless I have 99% of the Monitors in a Ready State.

Yep, readiness monitor sequences are fun. I used to do them for the shop I worked at all the time, some I'd print off because they had like 17 steps over 2-3 pages. Takes some creative driving at times and an immunity to honking.

I'll never forget the time I was setting readiness monitors and got pulled over. Well, slowly pulled over. Part of the test said I had to go from 55mph and naturally decelerate without braking until down to like 5mph, that's a long way to coast. So I did it on a state highway near the shop. As I dropped below speed for traffic I tripped the hazard flashers, drifted over to the shoulder and coasted all the way to an off ramp. I finally roll to a stop, cop pulls up next to me and rolls down his window. "What the hell are you doing?!" - with a straight face I said "setting readiness monitors". He goes WHAT?! (lmfao).. I was sitting in the vehicle in my uniform, held up the scan tool to show him and said 'readiness monitors'.

He was pissed, said not to do it again. I said where else am I supposed to do it? I have to get the car up to 55-60mph for several minutes, I could do that on backroads or residential but I don't think you'd be too keen on that either (30mph limit). Unfortunately my scanner was a cheapo, only around $230 for one of those LAUNCH obd book scanners. I mean it's handy but it's not bidirectional. Less cumbersome than one of the old snap on bricks or the modis or solus. But it did what I needed it to and it was capable of resetting the cel. That way I could leave one of the other techs with the modis and just use my scanner. And perk, it didn't cost me $8k plus updates.

The only issue I have with obd2 adapters and cell apps people often get, they get a generic code and everyone sells them or promotes them like 'save yourself the money when it's just a loose gas cap'. In the years I worked on cars, got evap codes - it was almost never the gas cap. lol. Interpreting the codes and knowing the systems they're tied to is a different ball of wax. I never got into deep diagnostics, the guy who owned the shop I worked at had been working on cars most of his life. Shop had been around like 20yrs, he started it from the ground up. I think he tried and failed his L1's 3 or 4 times that I know of. It's not an easy pass. A $50 app isn't going to tell someone exactly what's wrong and that's how they promote them.

Hopefully you got it this time, I know what a pain in the ass it can be. Luckily where I'm at there's safety inspections but because I live in a rural area, no emissions. Sometimes it's like chasing ghosts. One customer brought in a vw jetta that was in great running condition, but wouldn't pass cause of the cel. We replaced the O2's, catalytic converter. First with an aftermarket, then with a factory oem converter. Still no dice. Weeks of scratching our heads until we found out it was a computer issue. The parameters were out of whack and the tolerances so artificially tight, even a brand new oem converter wouldn't pass. Then fought with VW to get them to cover flashing the computer, they wanted to charge for their own faulty crap. Finally got it warrantied and a 30min reflash had the car passing flying colors.

With the P0171 and P02174 codes you are chasing Ghosts because it can be any number of things. After I went for a drive cycle after a Fuel Pump change and the SES came on after a highway jaunt and when I saw LOW Fuel Pressure I was like WTF? I was like no fucking way~! I had changed the fuel pump because of the gas gauge not always reading and I had an A/C Delco known good in stock so I never thought to go back to FP. When I saw 45 PSI I was like WTF? Did not do the dead head test just went for the regulator. When it came out in pieces I said I guess I was right! Now just need to get all monitors in a ready state so I can get a sticker.

Well after dinner and a few Glasses of Red Wine I tried to get the fucking O2 heaters to run the test by doing the Idle Dive Cycle and No Luck. So I went for quick ride and got the Catalyst to run the test. Now need one or two more Monitors to PASS and I can go for a sticker. This is really becoming a make me lose it type of dealings. Good thing I have experience with this but the problem is I used to get PAID to do this shit~!
