My first build on a Pasito RBA

I did my first build on the Pasito RBA and thought I'd post some pics. There's a couple YT vids on this (Mike Vapes and Vaping Insider were the ones I watched) and it's actually pretty easy if you bend the coil correctly before trying to mount it. Mike Vapes struggled with it and it's just not that tough.

I was lazy and started with an Advanced Vape Supply 316L SS clapton (28g/36g, 3.0mm 6 wrap) coil and pulled it down to a 1.5mm diameter on a coiling rod using a needle nose. I could have unwrapped and rewrapped but it was easier just to pull it down on the 1.5mm rod. I used 5 1/2 wraps and it came out to about 0.62 ohms. You need the leads coming off opposite of each other, and then bend them at a 90 into a "z" like this:
upload_2019-8-22_23-59-10.png (Forgive the pic, it's a screenscrape from a Japanese reviewer)

Mounted it looked like this:

RBA3.jpg
RBA4.jpg
Wicking is simple, just cut it short enough that it comes down to the top of the slots but don't fill them.

Reassembled prior to putting in the pod

Not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be, but I couldn't do it without the magnifying headband with light that I have. Maybe your eyesight is better.

I'm vaping a 3mg freebase at 25w and it's a great vape. Interesting to see how long it lasts.

Hope this helps someone. Comments are welcome, including what builds you're using on your RBA. I'll probably try some Ni wire next time, but these coils were there so I used one.

I'd like to see what others are building because TBH its not giving the flavor the regular coils do, so I know there's room for improvement.

@MrMeowgi how are you building? Interested in your thoughts.

I've got my coil placed the same way pics above. I used 28g ss. 2.5mm id. 8 or 9 wrap. Came out to . 84ohms

Thanks. Since you said in another thread that you tossed the premade coil I assume the flavor is superior to it. I may have to try again with higher ohms. My RBA build vapes great, nice crackling like you get from a wicked coil, good amount of vapor, no dry hits, but flavor is lacking somewhat. Good, just not great.

Think that @MrMeowgi was vaping at 4 digits power.
I made 26AWG SS216L, 2mm/ 6 wraps sometime ago, but I didn't liked it, it was unstable, maybe because of low resistance (about 0.4).
Now I have twisted A1 32AWGx4 2mm/7 wraps (or maybe 6) and it's pretty cool, but my battery isn't happy yet, could be some more batterylife.
And finally I'm going to make 28AWG KA12mm/7wraps and it should be about 1.2 ohms, nice to vape on 2-3 digits

I've been leery of this pod since I don't have a lot of experience building. I use premade coils in my rbas for my squonks. But thanks to the pictures and step by step instructions I might go for it and invest in this pod. Thanks for posting clear instructions with pictures!

I am running a 2mm 5/6 wrap 27g N80 coil .55Ω on the 3rd setting... using 50/50 juice. Works wonderfully.

Although similar in wicking as the OP... I 45* cut mine... not to a point, but to take some head fluff off it.

First go at it, I placed the coil to low... and it gurgled and spat at me like a mad Llama, yanked the wick and raised the coil and been fine since. upside down in the pocket, side ways, laying on the desk... grab it, take a toot... perfect.

I have gone through 5 refills and performing perfectly. I don't fill to absolutely full... I leave 1mm or so view to allow for proper vacuum or at least that is my belief ;)

Lightning Vapes Clapton 36k/28k 2.5mm id, 5 wraps, 1.08 ohm. Using on 3rd setting 16 watts. Wicked with rayon.

Working great, no spitting or leaking. Flavor came through after about 3-5 minutes. Battery life is great also!

I ordered a Smoant silicone case for it via 3avape. I know geeky looking but since it’s so light I wanted to put a lanyard on it when out so I don’t drop it :D I’ll post a pic when it arrives.

I will say if you drop it by chance there is a seperation spot at the top. Dropped mine twice so far on asphalt. . But still works. Seems to be just pressure fitted. It will seperate at the top line. But just pressed it back down and it's all good

Good to know! We’ll see how well the silicone case works. I saw someone with it on FB & it even has a cover for the driptip so you don’t get dust, pocket lint, etc. :D

My cover might be mute as they’re talking about a TOTAL & COMPLETE BAN on anything vape related in NJ  I just found out.

Totally unbelievable :cuss2: we’ll see how it all pans out, there’s a meeting in Trenton, NJ on Tuesday September 24th.

We need a " not like" button for this. Sorry to hear. So everything? Not just flavored juice? What a stupid knee jerk reaction. Big tobacco and $$$ I tell ya.

Ironically ( or clairvoyanty?) I had decided to start DIY the Monday before the ban was announced so had nic and flavorings on order when it was announced. Add another panic buy of flavorings and here I sit with about 60 little bottles learning how to mix. Fuck the bastards.

Yes this proposal or whatever the heck they’re calling it is for a TOTAL & COMPLETE BAN ON ALL VAPE PRODUCTS in NJ. :gaah:

I agree! There’s a lot of resources for diy.

@wllmc @Roundhouse for US flavor orders bull city flavors.com they sell recipe packs. For example @Huckleberried recipe for Golden Oreo cheesecake is there. They make it real easy by listing the recipe & all the flavors you can click all or select flavors for the recipe if you have some.

We can still order flavorings from the UK (Chefsflavours.com.uk) As for sure they ship labeled as “food flavorings”. For vendors/flavors BCF doesn’t/can’t carry.

I generally love Nick Evans recipes on Eliquidrecipes.com search “Nevans”.

Our http://vapingunderground.com/threads/the-daily-mixing-thread.360087/page-228 lots of great people willing to help with your diy.

And our DIY section for recipes.

Thanks for the encouragement. My 2 orders were from BCF and I did a couple recipe packs. I'm reading everything I can here. Good stuff. I just need to bust through the learning curve. Confident I will.

My biggest problem is I think I'm too used to the obscene amount of sweetener in commercial juices like CBP, my ADV EDV. I've tried a couple CBP clone recipes ( including Vaperoxx's) and they're on day 5 of steeping and while they're good ( and certainly vapable) they lack something that CC's CBP has.

I'll get there. Not going back to cigs. And I hope you dont get a total ban. Good luck.

Thanks!

For now you can add additional sweetener until you get unused to the amount of sweetener in commercial juice & slowly taper down and your taste buds adjust.

Very true. I wouldn't be able to vape the same percentages that I did when I first started DIY. I adjusted everyone's recipes to use more flavoring, at first. Over time, I started mixing them as written. I was so surprised how much I enjoyed them. I've only used sweetener once since I started mixing. Some flavorings are really great for using as a sweetener AND adding something nice to your mix.

It will take time, and I know that. I mixed a recipe from DIYorDie (Misty) and it wasn't sweet enough, so I added 1% of Cap's Super Sweet and it's really nice now. I'll have to wean myself off over time. But to mix 60ml of juice for $0.08, I love it.

I've fallen down several rabbit holes since I started vaping in February. But I've stayed off cigs. What a deal. Now it's a whole new world of DIY, and what a fantastic resource here in VU.

thanks
