Almost had an accident yesterday...

I've been using mech mods for years now with no issues. Went out an bought 2 new 20700 batteries yesterday. Unpackaged one, tossed it into the purge enforcer clone I got in the mail and started vaping. About 15 minutes into it I had the mod in my hand and I could feel it getting hot. Quickly took the button off and the battery fell out and was extremely hot. Tossed the battery into the bath tub and waited for the explosion. Nothing blew so about 20 mins later I went in to look at it and theres a chunk of wrap missing. Off a brand new battery!
Can never be too careful people. Even with new batteries ALWAYS CHECK YOUR WRAPS!

It's also a good idea to always check new batteries with a meter or charger to make sure you don't have a dud. They don't come fully charged, only around 1/2 way usually, so if going in a mech right away you might want to charge them first.

Yeah I'm definitely going to start inspecting them better and getting them ready. Guess my point of the post was I've been doing it for so long I got ignorant and cocky. Even if you've been using mechs for a long time you still need to be careful and take caution

Why did you put a 20700 in a 21700 tube mech, though? The Samsung 30T is only $5.5 per battery if you buy 10 from www.18650batterystore.com (a vendor that is also on Mooch's list of trusted battery vendors).

I dont buy batteries, or any vaping products really, online. I support small business around my areas by going in store. 20700 can be used as well as 21700... or 18650 for that matter with an adapter so why not?

Probably for the reason of this post? ;)

Just kidding, well not really, but yeah.

I get the whole support small business, nice gesture for the community, but that is a lot of trust for not knowing the product chain and sourcing of the batteries.

Glad you're ok though

You're not wrong about that. But most places around here, though I'm not sure why, sell hohm life batteries. I know one of the local shops has true Samsung 25r 18650s so I buy them. Usually it's a choice between hohms or efest in the stores. I dont build to push the limits anymore like I used to so i dont need the highest rated. But for $6 for a 21700 I'll probably get a few anyway

You're proving my point though ;)

Many places can get authentic batteries, but they always wont be Grade A... which as far as I know... the linked vendors from Mooch all do.

Not hating on your avenue of choice and choosing to support local, its admirable.

Carry on hot rod! Still glad nothing serious happened, besides a little poop stains ;)

There exist a few other, better ways to support your local B&M store IMO because the Samsung 30T actually is a tad safer (due to the higher CDR it has) AND performs better for mech use when compared to ANY of the 20700 cells despite that the Sanyo 2070C is also great. I mean, batteries are dirt cheap so $55 for a package of 10 of the absolute best performing batteries available for mech use is not a lot, and, I don't mention this very often, but... as a matter of fact, at my local B&M store since I picked up vaping in January 2017 probably I have spent close to $55,000 (no exaggeration).

The reason they all sell those brands of batteries is markup. The wholesale chain for name-brand batteries is cents, those Hohm life are dollars.

Glad you're ok. Once you got it out of the mod you were not going to have an explosion. That battery has a very basic protection built in that will allow it to vent before pressurizing to the point of exploding.

It can be unnerving though. I had a hard short with a mech that tore my wrap while I was sliding it in and thermal runaway occurred almost instantly. I just tossed the whole set up outside and let it cool down. I've only seen the batteries we use explode when punctured or failing to notice there's something wrong like overheating and continuing to pulse it.

I wouldn't rewrap that battery, it's compromised. Have you made sure that there are no burrs on the inside of the tube that could have caught the wrap?

I checked out the inside and it's super smooth. No signs of any burrs or anything that could've caused it to tear. Tossed a efest that I had in there without any issues. Had to have been like that straight out of the box

Good point because it made me realize. If it happened to me and the battery got hot, I wouldn't use it anymore, thinking it's compromised. Wondering isn't worth the cost of replacing.

mmmmmjm that could be the issue right there, i love my local vape shop and buy a lot there but never again a battery, got sold some samsung fakes a year or so back that hit very weak and didnt last that long.

not to say that they were knowingly selling fakes, sometimes they just get them from what they believe is a reliable distributors.

It's why many reputable online vendors do testing of a few batteries per batch they receive.

I have had 0 problems with rtdvapor.com, imrbatteries.com & liionwholesale.com. Only places i bought batts from these days. They test every every shipment received
