burned my dripper and wondering if it is still safe to hit

I have a really bad habit of sticking my vapes in my pocket without locking them. Then I put my keys on top of them or something and it pushes the button down and fires until I literally smell burning plastic.

I have a vandy vape pulse 80 watt and a wotofo recurve with an alien coil. I smelt that horrible burned smell. I took the cotton out and dry fired the coil twice and it appeared clean. But I still smell that burned smell and I can't see any plastic that it could have burned. There are the posts and the coil but no plastic. So why do i continue to smell this smell? It may not be plastic, it might be the smell of juice just being toasted or the cotton. I am not sure but I rewicked it and I am hitting it again.

I am just wondering if this is safe. Should I change the coil out? Or get a whole new vape all together? I doubt I need a new vape but I am thinking that maybe I should change the coil. I really do not want to because It is my last Alien and the best tasting. Thank you in advance!

How burned is burned?

There is a grommet between the center pin and the threads on the threaded 510 connection.
That's the only spot I can think of.
That stuff in there could be burnt.

You can take it apart and see.

If you see no evidence of anything melted I'd suggest cleaning the coil and installing fresh cotton. If that doesn't do it then it may be time for a new coil and a more thorough cleaning of the RDA. Remove said coil and cotton and wash with warm water and dish soap if you choose. If that doesn't do it then it may be time for a more complete investigation of the mod.

Moral of the story IF you choose to put it your pocket with other things turn it off.

Take out the bronze colored center pin

There is some sort of plastic like material between that pin and the silver threads.

If that's burnt in there then you may be able to pull the grommet out and clean it in alcohol or something.

Don't want to be one of the dudes that becomes a youtube sensation for ripping your pants off in a gas station security cam while catching yourself on fire. Lithium batteries and pocket shit, don't mix brother.

If the coil is SS you might have toasted it, anything else and it might be a cleanup operation. When you continuously fire like that, you bring the mod and atomizer temperature up in places where it ordinarily wouldn't be brought up with normal use. I doubt you melted the PEEK insulators but you should give it a good and thorough look through. I'm not familiar with the pulse, but adhesives have a much lower melting point than the plastics and you may be smelling adhesives cooking off from running the circuit hot.

Do I understand correctly that you haven't yet rewicked the RDA since that happened? If not, you are definitely smelling burnt cotton. There may be other burnt things, but the cotton is the first thing to go. Rewick first, work from there into areas the other folks mentioned.

You can toast your cotton by dry burning it for only a short time. That squonker isn't going to squonk itself to keep the cotton wet while it's there, firing in your pocket.

ETA: I see where OP did say he removed cotton. Missed it first time. Sorry.

It takes a lot to render an rda unusable. Clean it up, remove the coil and make sure the insulator under the positive plate and seal around the 51p pin are not damaged.
I would assume they aren't as it takes alot of heat to melt those. Rebuild it, rewick it and rock on.

Just remember to lock your mods

You have an insulator that separates the positive and negative post - like Jwill has pointed out - I've seen one melt before and it was only evident when the 510 pin was removed and the post taken out. I'd be checking that out first because you could get a hard short if that's compromised.

Oh and seriously, stop putting your mod in your pocket while left on, chips fail man and if your 10 second cut off doesn't kick in it's going to be the 4th of July in your pants, just saying.

Actually we haven't said anything about your battery yet, either. Do you know if the battery overheated?

The one time I had something like that happen, unintentional firing, was on an old eGo pen, but I threw the thing away. It got red hot, and I definitely didn't feel safe using it any more after that.

Anyone else have concern about the battery?

I'd definitely check the positive post, but that entire mod is plastic, if the rda is fine it could be anything.

I personally would rather be safe than sorry. Replacing an rda costs a lot less than facial reconstruction. If you melted the positive terminal insulator it would be very dangerous to continue using the rda. If you are unsure be safe not sorry.

i usually drop my parts to be cleaned in plain white vinegar , let them soak and then flush with hot water and then dry. seems to remove all bad smells.
