storing nic ?

i have 12 4oz bottles coming to store my new nic. we all know that air is the enemy of nic. it takes me almost a year to go through 4oz. so i will have lesser amounts in use thoughout the year. how do you store your smaller amounts to keep the least amount of air in the bottle/s ? i have an idea, but i would like to see what you do.

Fill up to the neck of the bottles, cap and stick all except maybe one in the freezer. You may want to consider using something smaller for your active use nic bottle but I would suggest using glass if at all possible. I don't worry about the small amount of air space in the necks of the bottles, it might even end up being helpful if you experience any expansion at some point.

Short of vacuum sealing them that is your best option now if you really want to go that route you can but unless you have the equipment around already doing so would increase your cost.

the 4oz bottles are for the freezer nic, i am going to top em off. i was wondering about what remains of 1 4 ounce. i can't just use out of a 4oz bottle, cause that would leave a lot of air in there over time. but i just kinda solved my problem. i happen to have 3 60ml glass juice bottles, and 1 30ml glass. this will leave 3 seals bottles and 1 in use 30ml.

now, the 3 glass bottles, they have dropper caps. think this will be a storage issue ?

I don't think it will be but if you are worried about it you can pick up other caps for them on the cheap

It depends on how long they are stored. The dropper caps are not completely airtight but it probably wouldn't be an issue in the short term. I don't know how quickly you go through nic so it's hard to say but if it were me and I was putting them in the freezer, I'd go ahead and grab some caps to seal those bottles properly.

I just keep the 120 ml/4 oz bottles in the freezer and fill a 30 ml amber bottle for my working stock and then put the 120 back in the freezer.
I use nic in PG base so it does not get too thick to shake and pour. also I just think that nic lasts better in PG. No proof just what I think.

Edit:
Just went to basement and got a 120 Ml bottle of nic from freezer that I have been using out of of for a year? To refill my 30 ml bottle. probably only 15 ml left in 120 ml bottle but still crystal clear,

about 4oz a year, as it is now.

i would get caps. but the total cost for that, unless i get lucky somehow(notice my name), the cost of the caps would exceed the nic.
and as it is now, i have/use about 25ml of a 125 bottle that has never been in the fridge/freezer. and yes, it is a little rusty colored, but it may have been like that'ish from new, idk, didn't know to check when i got it. i have a small jug of Chemnovatic that has always been in thee fridge, unopened. and looking thought the bottle as best i can, it has some color.

ignore the spray caps, they came that way. and they came with the reg caps that i will use.

The quicker you get your nic in bottles with minimum air in them and get them in the freezer the less oxidation.

Sorry for the hijack, but how much difference does a freezer at 0* vs. refrigerator at 37* make? Significant?

Just think about food in freezer vs food in fridge? And ear of corn lasts a week in fridge? in freezer...
the colder something is the less decay and oxidation.
the slower any chemical reactions take place.

I also keep all my flavorings in the freezer.

Good point. I've got to convince my wife of this. Would you mind giving her a call? :cuss2:

sorry but no :D
Have enough trouble with the one I have.

I do have an advantage though. Freezer is in basement and wife has a bad leg so basement is my territory. So she does not know how much vape stuff I have in freezer :)
Unfortunately laundry is done in basement too ...

I do not know for sure but I would think a LOT.
.

this got me to thinking = who has ever tested this ? well, i am going to now. i will put just 1 bottle in the fridge. then as time goes by, i will keep an eye on all of it. i will put it in a box.

Humm sounds like you should move her to the basement and your vape freezer up stairs. I got lucky when I first started mixing my neighbor got a new fridge and gave me his old one so I keep my stuff in there.

I keep my Nicotine in a Cardboard Box in the Cool Basement and Nicotine unopened lasts for years. I do not store for Vapogeden so not problems here with storing for normal usage.

Would not work. Kitchen is upstairs but she seldom cooks.
I have a mad scientist hidey hole workshop in the basement.
Laundry is easy and gives me an excuse to hide out.

I haven't seen him around here lately but @Rossum did some fairly extensive testing on this very topic.

Long story short:

Optimum: Nic in glass in freezer
Next best alternative: Nic in PET in freezer ( PET is less permeable than other plastics )

There was a distinct difference in oxidation from the nic that was stored in the refrigerator vs. the freezer over a period of time. However, storing nic in a refrigerator would definitely help, especially if it were in glass and protected from light. The latter probably wouldn't be necessary if the refrigerator isn't opened regularly, i.e., a basement refrigerator. As for the nic that was stored at room temperature, well, I wouldn't say it was unusable but it would have to be the only nic available for me to consider it, lol. Oh and yes, glass was clearly the winner in this scenario as well.

Do keep in mind that this was over a fairly long period of time, a year or more if memory serves.

i got my nic in the bottles. the 1 darker'ish one is 6 month old, unopened, chemnovatic. ht eothers are the 250mg PurNic.
idk if they are naturaly that color or what. the countertop is making them darker than they really are. but they still have color.

that makes me wonder. is it going bad, or is that is just the way they are making it now. as you know, 4 years is a long time for vape.
I have no idea. Maybe the overall quality of nic has dropped?
I have not bought any in 3 years I think and at last peek all was still very clear.
I bought the cheapest nic i could find imported from India at Myfreedomsmokes.
As I think I said above I just refilled my amber work bottle from some of my oldest nic in a 120 ml glass bottle and it was still very clear no look of yellowing at all. Mine is all in PG base if that makes any difference.

I was going to buy another liter a while back, then did the math on what I have left and decided that I have more than I will ever use for myself.

yeah, i could be lower quality. but it could also be the way they are making it, who knows. and it could be that darkening "used" to be an issue, and it no longer is. again, who knows.

mine is all PG, as i agree that i think it makes it last longer. and also easier to work with.

Easier to work with for sure. Quickly warms up enough to shake and pour after it is taken out of freezer than goopy VG which will not even pour for a while when removed from freezer.
I also keep my PG and VG in the freezer.

Just pulled a gallon of each out yesterday. Should be warmed up enough now to mix some more 50/50 in liter bottles. Then back in the freezer it goes.

do you use gallon glasss bottles ?

just a tip i discovered the other day. i was at the grocery, i looked up and saw juice in 12-16oz glass bottles, $1 each.
drink the juice, clean the bottle = nic storage bottle. fast easy cheap.

I split my nic into 120 ML/4 oz clear glass bottles for storing in the freezer.
The bigger the bottle the more air in the bottle as you use nic out of it.
More air = more oxidation/yellowing/peppery taste of nic.

Not a bad idea you may want to make sure and sterilize the bottles as well before use

For freezer, I use the same size but Amber bottles and my working bottle is clear kept in a small purple bag (think crown royal but much much smaller and purple) so I can easily see how much is in it and it makes it stand out so I don't have to worry about accidentally dripping my nic while mixing (safety first) I got my bottles from a Dolar store a while back nice but had to order the caps online but was better than paying the shipping from the suppliers I have seen online since Amazon is not an option in my household, so getting creative on where and how to pick up supplies on the cheap is always a good thing.
